It's no chore to track down the books on PC. It takes little effort to unlock Meteor, usually right around lvl 50 unless you try to get it earlier.

I don't know about you, but on the console, it is not little effort. It takes a loooooong time unless you remember every location by heart.

I think ZOS should implement 'achievement tokens' in the Crown Store allowing alts to purchase achievements from other characters on our account, much like how DCUO does with skill points. They could implement this to work with Fighters Guild and Mages Guild lines too.

"I had to, so you should too!" - horrible argument based on no logic.
"Why not just make everything account wide?!" - another horrible argument, based on the simple (but well-loved) slippery slope logical fallacy.

I completely see the appeal to this. I think more things should be account-wide as well, because to have it otherwise is to create an unnecessary grind that acts as an illusion of content. While the mages guild skill line is stupidly easy to level, a lot of people like to play the game casually, and have day jobs and other obligations limiting the time they get to spend playing video games. So do I believe that skill progress should automatically be account wide? I personally do not. However, I understand why many people would, and I think it would be great if a more creative solution could be imagined. For example, maybe maxing out certain skill lines grants access to a Crown Store item which can be used one time to unlock the skill progress on another character. That holds true to the "cosmetic and convenience" aspects of the Crown Store. And maybe there are better solutions, but I agree that a pointless grind for the sake of a pointless grind is not a fun way to spend (what is in many people's' cases) limited free time.

While the mages guild skill line is stupidly easy to level...
That is true enough. I have never yet spent any time specifically hunting mages guild books, I just pick those up you pass by in following the usual questings... and still get meteor on every character halfways through cadwells. No extra effort needed, just keeping my eyes open for purple glow while questing through the diverse maps.

As such I find it a bit silly when people ask they be allowed to bypass the neglectable efffort to get something just because they think they are entitled to have everything handed to them on a silver platter...
Yes, I see the appeal too. Free stuff always has an appeal, especially to the "gimme crowd".

And I would not mind at all if they -sold- something in the crown store as "convinience item" for completing stuff (like the crown riding lessions... or the crown motiv books...) I would have no problem at all with crown bought eidetic memory chapter collections, crown bought dye unlocks, crown bought crafting research, crown bought trophies or whatever...
Perhaps even stuff that -does- have a game effect. At increased price. Much like vampire or werewolf.
After all, if those with a certain lack of patience want to fill ZOSs warchest so they can pay their development teams to code more content for all of us sooner - why should I object?

But just asking to get it for free?
    Nope!

I need to do it on some of my alts still OP, but I also have to collect the skyshards and do the public dungeons on em?

With that argument you could say: Should I have max crafting on all my characters if I have it on one? Or should all my characters know every motif if I learned it on one character?

It just wouldn't fit with an MMO game...

Would it be nice if you didn't HAVE to get all the books again? sure, but it would also be nice not having to level up vampire to 10 on every character you want to be a vamp, however if the game was like that many people would stop playing prematurely

    Hell no!

Like all those things - if you want it on your alt, work for it on your alt. If you feel you can't be bothered - do without.

As much as I do agree on almost everything from that list, I disagree with the "should alliance rank levels...". Indeed, the alliance war skills should count for each character individually because they are just skills like the guild/ world/ weapon etc skills. Granted.

But I feel the alliance war ranks (corporal, veteran etc.) symbolize more of how much time you spend in pvp and/ or how competend of a pvp-player you are. Sure, each class plays out different but I think that a top notch Dragonknight would also do well with any other class and vice versa. And in reference to the alliance ranks/titles (NOT for the joy of gaming itself) it feels a bit wasted to pvp on an alt because these AP could increase your already high rank on your main pvp toon. I hope you understand what I'm trying to write here.

TL;DR - I'm in for alliance skills - char bound BUT for alliance ranks as account wide.

I have not even achieved Meteor yet and still say no... its a grind and a half but you are working towards something. It shouldn't be a "special case" just because its hard to get (and I wouldn't really call it hard, just time consuming). My 2 cents.

Yes. If housing worked at all.
My guildmate bought few books form mages guild to put them into our guild's manor. If you try to read them with an alt, nothing happends, there is no progression in mages guild. I find that stupid as it gets.

At least, Zos should make that your own alts could progress mages guild by reading books that your own main char bought from mages guild after finding them all in game. And please, dont you even dare comparing that with skyshards hunt. There are 384 shards, and with motifs, over 3180 books. Not all do give mages guild progression, but at if we would be able to quickly read at least some of them, that would be a blast. Idk, make them "progress read" in area they originate from, that might make players buy houses and stuff them with that zone's books. For example, Deshaan lore books could give you progress if you read them in any house you own on territory of Deshaan.

I can't see it happening. Although I think it would be cool if our alts could read the mage's guild books if we've bought copies to go in our homes. At least then there's task to complete before its available to all chars.

So you create new character and you have to re-do all the stuff again...
    - Level up to level 50 asap and level up class, weapon and armoru skills - fine.. after all it is new character.. :D
    - Levelling fighters guild - meh, it is doable i guess... :)
    - Levelling mages guild - it will take a while.. but still.. it is doable... it just takes so long... :|
    - Levelling Undated - are you crazy ? that grind again ? nope... :/
    - Levelling Werewolf / Vampire - I mean.. sure.. that is if you are lucky to unlock it....AGAIN :o
    - Gathering all skill points and skyshards - WTF ? Why ?! CP are account wide.. collectibles are.. but why not skill points from skyshards and some not- main story quests WTF :#

As you can see there are things that are relatively easy to do.. but some are just absurdly new - game unfriendly. So how about to treat the new character as a NG+ ? You don't have to complete the tutorial every time right ? So some things you already did should be simply account wide.

I'd rather have a 2nd method to increase the rank in the MG.

Fighters guild is raised by killing undead and daedra and by closing dolmens

Undaunted is raised by completing dungeon achievements, delves and pledges

Mages guild is only raised by collecting lorebooks

    Magblade, Magsorc etc.

It's a mandatory skill on every magicka character.

No, its not anymore. Destro Staff Ultimate is. Or Negate. But I never use Meteor anymore. It does one half the damage that the Destro Staff Ultimate does The only required Mages Guild Skill is Inner Light, and that unlocks at L2 in the Mages. Less than one zones worth of books.

Besides, it takes about 8 zones to collect the books and about 30 minutes per zone allowing for unavoidable mob interactions. Then you can max Mages. Each Blue Lore Book in the Overworld as 4 instances so the they are easy to find, even without an addon.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Yes and No I think skill points should be account based it's a paint to get skill points with no add ons on console to see where they are I have to google for maps same for lore books but then again people complain about meteor alot it hit hard i agree but DON'T FORGET it's a 200 ulti (most classes) 170 for sorcs so it should hit hard atleast that's what I think. Same counts for any ulti that's around 200 should hit hard. I typed too much I'll shut up lol
