/AFK

We should be able to type a command, like "/AFK", which would allow us to stay online while away from the game for a longer period of time. It could be used while you are eating, watching a movie, etc. It would not be possible to use in Cyrodiil. If someone were to whisper you, an automatic message would be sent to them to indicate that the recipient is AFK.

Especially now that we have houses and are able to sit everywhere, I would like to see an AFK function.

There is an /afk command, but maybe only be introduced with Shissu's LUA addon. I'm not sure, but that addon has a list of commands with that being one of them. I also don't know if auto replies with an away message.

Grabbing a bite to eat (scarfing in my case), getting a drink or bio break is one thing, but really, watching a movie??? You should probably log for that.

I disagree with incentivizing or encouraging people to leave their characters logged in needlessly. It just contributes to the larger problem of server latency. Just my opinion.

    @Stormshaper, @SnuggleMePlease

Multitasking? Sometimes, you just want to stay online, though AFK, due to social reasons for instance. The feature isn't important, but I felt it was worth suggesting.

Oh, and the server latency argument is a reach.

Having an inactive character hanging out in high population areas like Rawl'kwa is an issue, out in the wilderness not so much.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

If you're not in Cyrodill you shouldn't need to be removed from the game any way.

I can't believe idle timers are still a thing in this day and age.

I agree. ESO is an MMORPG, not a team-based shooter or MOBA.

I agree; if you need a proper break log out and take care of business. I don't think we are talking about a simple bio break while doing a long PvP session or the like.

How long does it take for your pc to load the game and your character back up? Leaving isn't great for the server, especially when large amounts of people do it. The bigger issue is, however, why would you want to unnecessarily tax your own computer when not using it?

I would love to see something like this. More than once now I have gotten a phone call during an instanced solo quest and talked for a little too long... and getting kicked out reset the quest to the beginning. Also I am occasionally doing things like laundry while playing so I have to leave for brief periods, and I'm quite tired of periodically running back to the laptop to hit W just to keep myself logged in until I get back.

I'd be happy if they just increased the timer to an hour or something even.

You're just trying to pad your Time Played stats. Go on, admit it.

It takes a minute to log in, let's not recode the game's back end, with all the idle timers and character polling that needs to be in place and put an undue burden on the servers (more in creating more shards than what are needed) because you can't be bothered to log back in.

You get 10 minutes AFK, give or take. If you need more, log back in.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I don't know how it is on PC, but, on the Xbone, I just use the sit chair emote and it won't boot me as long as the emote is active. I suppose it could work on the play dead emote as well seeing that is not timed either.

Of course, sometimes it doesn't work out so well in crowded towns due to the inevitability of someone running around spamming buffs. It is pretty handy out in the wilderness though.

    I second this.

Having a easy way to implement an AFK message is important, it's been around since the beginning of times and ESO should definitely have that function too.

I totally agree, how can you enjoy the idling in your house screen saver if you keep getting logged. My character is sitting there in front of that fire he made enjoying staying warm and drinking a sujama and BAM, kicked to log in screen after just 10 exciting minutes of relaxation.

I do the same thing, it's crazy we even have idle timers. They should be done by zone. If you wanna hang out in Rawl and go afk sure you should be booted but not in houses or solo instances, especially not in vma.
