Best magicka nightblade race

Hey guys,

I want to do a new caracter and it's going to be a magicka nightblade... I've had a few already but always a Breton.
But what's the best overall race for a magicka nightblade?

I know there's 100 different polls out there so I apologise for doing another one

The difference from Altmer / Dunmer and Breton is <2-3%. If you really care for their tiny plus of damage take one of the first two races. If you prefer Breton I'd still go with them.

I picked dunmer though when you are playing in heavy armour and utilize clever alchemist for burst I'd play Argonian.

I personally prefer high elf but dunmer is very good as well.

Dunmer has racial passives that increase your max magica and stamina at the same time, and that protect you from fire damage which comes into play if you want to try out being a vampire. I point out stamina because even if you don't usually use stamina abilities, you can have an easier time with stamina draining blocking, dodging, sprinting, sneaking, etc. That said I only play stamina because I only have 2 toons and my main one's a stamblade and the other I just use for farming a second set of dailies sometimes so I didn't invest in a different build for her. Well I have 8 if you count storage and crafting mules.

you could also argue that it is an AoE DPSand buff skill if you want to look at it another way...just a very versatile skill

I hope this helps. I have over 900 cp on my Nightblades so I want to share my experience if it helps others.

If you want max dps you need the largest magic pool possible. High Elf or Breton. They share a 10% max magic passive that will always mean you can have a larger magic pool than any other race if all other variables are equal. Breton's also have magic cost reduction vs High Elf's magic recovery. Are you someone that prefers cost reduction or recovery?

Will you use a destro staff? If the answer is yes, then choose High Elf for elemental talent which increases fire,frost and shock damage by 4%. Dark Elf offers 7% increase to fire damage and 2% shock and ice. So Dark Elf with a fire staff and 6% max magic would be good.

In conclusion:

Destruction staff magic Nightblade = Dark Elf if Fire Staff and High Elf for Ice or Shock.
Duel Wield for spell damage= Breton or High Elf
Vampires= Dark Elf 1st then Breton.

Between my ultimates (Shooting Star), monster set (Grothdarr), staff weaves, and blockade, fire makes up somewhere in the ballpark of half of my outgoing damage.

So for PvE DPS, Dunmer is unmatched, and the magblade on my alt account is a Dunmer because of that. That having been said, Breton and Altmer are fine too (Breton is arguably the best for PvP), and my main is a Breton that I have no intention of race-changing to Dunmer.

Will Dunmer still be best once the changes to staves occur? Will the new meta be one lightning, one fire staff? If it changes to one lightning, one fire, wouldn't Altmer be better?

Dunmer has less sustain but more damage I think. NBs need cold damage added.

It can be healer, dps, or tank.

It plays a vital role in sap tanking.

Keep in mind your playstyle. Dunmer and high elf extra damage comes from for at, fire, and/or lightning. Notice that nb abilities are not elemental based. So are you going to be utilizing elemental skills? If so, how many?

Further, are you pve or pvp? For pvp the meta is currently to run heavy. Hard times out there right now for light armor. So in that case the Breton cost reduction does well with heavy. Plus the extra damage mitigation and ap gain while still getting damage from max mag.

All staff combos will be viable next patch. The meta will be more of a push to heavy/mag againb overall. Each staff will be utilized depending on what you are trying to achieve. Lightning/fire will.be best for dps though but will be lacking a good amount in defense. Depends on what you are doing in the game.

Exactly. BiS race for magika NB.

It goes Dark Elf > High Elf > Bretton and Argonian is a big drop from there.

Most of the elemental damage is fire which is why Dark Elf is best.

I race changed from being a dark elf into argonian recently, and of course, the damage on dark elf is better.

but I've found that the argonian potion passive has been a huge help in resource management in pvp, and with necromancer being an obvious choice for mag nb, you get quite a lot out of resources from potions with this passive.

For damage and all that jazz, I'd say Altmer/High Elf for a MagNB. Although, my MagNB is an Argonian. Lol.

Ya it will end up like that. Lightning aoe and fire single. Altmer would be besthe for that setup imo.

I love my khajiit magblade and will always say best race, especially as a hybrid. My next favorite, for similar reasons, is dunmer.

Personally I love the khajiit look and the bonus pickpocketing. I use it alot. Lava damage reduction is pretty meh.
