So I am kinda new to this game and I am just pretty overwhelmed rn. So here's the scenario. I have my DK that is currently level 20 that I'm leveling and really enjoying. But then I have my nightblade that is cp16 that I would like to max out all the crafting skills in ( make my nb my crafter toon). But I haven't really explored this game yet either. So I'm stuck on what I should do. I would like to level my DK ASAP so I can pvp but I also want make my NB into a crafter and I also want to explore/ discover this game.

And what I mean by I haven't explored this game is that I've done just the main story on my NB along with some of the DC quest and faction quest. I haven't seen all of tamerial or done ANY of the PVE options ( dungeons, trials, etc) that this game offers

I have been doing both. (pretty much exactly what you are doing)

The crafting doesn't really take that long. You just log in and run through a writ and start the research you have to do.

Whille playing through the story as my DK.

Removing the linear progression in this game will hurt people who need guidance and direction.

Just some words of advice, take it slow, it's not a race, and do what you enjoy. If boosting your level feels important, do that.

Crafting doesn't take long, that's some funny ***. 18 months to fully research everything isn't fast.

    Hey @SameMeteor26

If you want to do all that, here's how I would

Go explore and level and see the sights and don't rush your dk. Let it happen as it happens.

There is a neat little under level 50 pvp campaign you can go into called Blackwater Blade. Mix this in when you feel like pvping.

Pick up all crafting materials you find on your dk while you quest. Put them in your bank for your NB (or if you are a subscription member they automatically go in your account shared crafting bag)

Save up money as you go so you can buy a full respec for your NB and respec him into crafting as you level it. A full respec probably shouldn't cost you more than 10k but probably not that high.

Stormproof: Vibeke - 50 EP mDragonknight | Savi Dreloth - 50 EP Magsorc | Sadi Dreloth - 50 EP Magblade | Sigtric Stormaxe - 50 EP Stamsorc | Valora Dreloth - 50 EP Magplar | Sigtric the Unbearable 50 EP Stam Warden
Scrub: Chews-on-Beavers - 50 EP DK Tank | Vera the Wild - 50 EP magicka Warden | Sigtric the Axe - 50 EP Dragonknight Crafter | Sigtric the Blade - 50 EP Lost Nightblade | Sigtric the Savage - 50 EP magicka Templar | Vibeka Shadowblade - 50 Ep Stealthy Ganky Nightblade |

Do both at the same time it's not hard lvl crafting decon everything and research traits while traits are researching jump on the DK and just jump into the quest and main storyline. When I first started I would go to a zone run around find all dolmens and world bosses and wayshrines then start the quest so I could jump port from place to place then when done move to the next.

Any gear or glyphs you get throw in bank and then take out on ur NB and decon to lvl crafts up but always check to see if you can research the gear first.

Then my answer for you is to just put your DK down for now and play through the game on your Nightblade. Finish Cadwell's Silver and Gold, leveling up your crafting as you go. Do the world bosses, do all the delves, all the dolmens, complete the DLC questlines. Don't worry the game isn't going anywhere, your DK will still be there when you finally have your NB in a decent spot.

And trust me, you're gonna appreciate having a character that can craft the sets you want when you finally get your DK up to Level 50, and as a bonus it'll be able to wear CP160 gear if you level up your CP with your Nightblade first.

Just play the game your way, mate. Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. Tamriel is a massive place to explore - huge amounts of content and no reason whatsoever to rush to CP160.

My only advice to you other than that is to join a good, supportive guild - one that'll help you with your crafting levelling without charging you, and who'll have you along to PVP raids and dungeons regardless of your level. If you're on Mac/PC EU, try Lone Star or Band of Daggers - we'll have you along any time :)

Set your crafter to learn traits and explore on your skin. More traits you know longer they take to learn.

    My suggestion?

Play your Dragonknight, since that's the character you enjoy playing.
But also do crafting on your Nightblade, too. It takes patience to level crafting, but it doesn't take a lot of time daily.
You can do both at once pretty easily!

    1. Play the game on your Dragonknight. You will pick up armor and enchantments as you go. Don't sell these! Wear the pieces you want your Dragonknight to wear, and put the rest in the bank. You will also come across flowers and ores and other crafting materials (including food). Pick these up and bank them as well. Also collect recipes and motifs as you go.
    2. On your Nightblade, deconstruct every armor and weapon piece that does not have a trait. Research the ones with traits. To begin, you can only do one research each for Woodworking, Clothier, and Blacksmithing. Prioritize the Training traits, followed by Divines and Infused for armor, and Sharpened and Precise for weapons. Save Prosperous for last, unless you run out of research items. Deconstruct the glyphs as well. Learn any unknown recipes and motifs.
    3. Continue to play your Dragonknight, picking up more things for research and deconstructing, to raise your Nightblade's crafting levels.
    4. Time to gain some skill points on your Nightblade. Craft some Training armor and weapons, to level faster. You gain skill points from leveling up, from using skyshards (you can find good maps online), and from the main Alliance and also the Prophet quests. The Training trait will speed this up. Place these skill points under Blacksmithing, Woodworking, and Clothier in the categories that allow you to research more traits faster. If you have any extras, place them in the passive for gaining more materials from deconstructing for Blacksmithing, Clothier, Woodworking, and Enchanting.
    5. Continue to play your Dragonknight and enjoy! Always keep picking up items for your Nightblade crafter.

Repeat as needed. You don't have to worry about putting points in to actually craft the higher level armors until you have researched many traits and are ready to start crafting for your Dragonknight. This method lets you level your crafting efficiently without needing to invest a lot of points on the front end.
Why be normal when you can be better?

Lol wut? Just relax, if what I've read on the forums is true, then a significant portion of the playerbase is below CP160. Unless you have a terminal disease or something limiting your time, then there is no reason to rush. ANY time you come into a game years after release, there are going to be people "ahead" of you.

I know I felt this pressure when I figured out what trait research was for a month into playing and I felt dumb for wasting time not researching things sooner. After a while, I stopped worrying about what other people had and just logged in to do whatever peaked my interest that day.

I started by wandering around with no idea what to do, and now I'm a pvp raid leader, I've finished every veteran dungeon and trial, I'm a master crafter, I have enough gold to buy a manor or two in the housing update, and I still have tons of random world quests to do if I want a break from the more competitive side of eso.

Do what you feel like doing and as others said take your time.
Personally i didn't look at crafting at all untill not joking my main was VR16 and i can pretty much craft anything now anyway.

Don't bother with the chores untill you know you're into ESO for the long run as in really like it alot.
No need to be overwhelmed or stress yourself out, it's a game, have fun!

All of the things you've mentioned are worth while doing. You can really do them in any order you want--whatever is fun for you at the time.

If your NB is your main, and the toon you want to be your crafter, it might make sense to focus more on them. Having several crafts mastered will ultimately benefit all of your alts as you can craft your own gear to help your overall progression.

I find it helps sometimes to keep a few specific goals in mind, especially if you're playing multiple characters. Something like maxing out a particular skill line on one toon (crafting for example), questing on a sub-level 50 toon to max them out, PvP on another toon, Thieves guild/DB quests on another, etc etc...

You're always progressing no matter what you're doing, and there are a lot of different directions to go. Basically just find activities that are fun for you on every character, and alternate.

A useful tip to any future budding crafter is if you have the imperial addon, make your crafter Imperial. It removes the hassle of having to either buy the imperial motif book or God forbid, rely on the RNG to find it. I got very lucky and found one.
