You really think houses will costs millions of gold with 90% of this game being plebs that think 10k gold is a fortune? Nah.

These guys are hoping for it to cost millions so they can lord it over the peasants with yet another thing they'll never be able to afford...there's no way it will cost excessive amounts of gold - ZOS will want the houses being used, because there's no point bringing out a new feature and spending countless months of dev time on it just to have 0.1% of people actually getting to use it.

It'll be some reasonable amounts of gold to get houses and Crowns as well (probably for the nicest houses). Let people craft some stuff to deck it out a little, then sell the nicest furniture and pieces through the Crown store once people are settled in.

If they do end up offering plots of land for Crowns, I am highly likely to get in on that. I'd like to buy some with in-game gold, but I'm totally fine, and actually kind of hoping, that we have the option for either.

Not me. The proper place for Crowns in housing is customization, not the house itself or land it sits on.

    @lordrichter

If it's also available for in-game gold, though, then I don't really see what the problem would be. It's not gambling, it's not interfering with the in-game economy, it's just another way to purchase something. On the other hand, customizing your house (I assume you mean with furniture) does hurt the in-game economy, as they've already stated that crafters will be able to craft furniture to use or sell. I'd honestly still be at least somewhat OK with that, since the majority of folks would probably rather trade their in-game gold for furniture, but it does go against one of the two main tenets of Crown Store community acceptability guidelines.

For starters, the in-game economy will always take a back seat to the game design and revenue needs. The game has to be fun, and make money, first. The game economy, and selling stuff between players, is secondary. This is just the way that they are doing this game. I don't expect that Housing will be a revolution. Housing will be an evolution, an extension, of existing policies.

Making housing a gold purchase is a gold sink. From a game design perspective, this is a huge reason. It does not do much for the Crown Store, though, and so they might have certain houses purchasable with Crowns. The fact that a house will be available through a quest really says that the houses are intended to lead people to the Crown Store, not necessarily make the Store the first stop. This is a good decision, in my eyes, because it tempers the appearance of greed.

The Crown Store is about customization and convenience. For housing, convenience would be Crown houses so that people would be able to bypass the gold requirement. Depending on how much the quest house resembles a leaky tent, there may be no reason to buy a Crown house. They could just not offer one. I think they will offer Crown houses, but I don't think they need to.

Customization (aka furniture crafting and decor) is where I feel housing and the Crown Store will really take off. In this area, crafting and Crown customization can co-exist. It already does so with alchemy and other areas of crafting. They can sell styles and stuff that bypasses learning requirements. They can also make Mimic Stones useful in this area. They can sell non-craftable Crown decor directly, similar to the Crown food, drink, and potions. Nothing placed in the house via Crown purchase will be anything but 'frilly lace' to make the house a home, so nothing of substance (armor, weapons, etc). This more than fits with the whole store concept.

Said it before in another thread: I'd pay $50 for one. Housing interests me. Don't know why but it does.

    Edit
I'm not rich in game so I'd rather spend money on one. To each their own.

no crowns, i'd save gold to buy the house(prob just a small one) tbh, even if there was a crown store purchase for it. But i guess it still depends on how much gold it will cost. And if there's some big montly/weekly payment to keep the house then Im pretty boned since i frequently only have 10-15k gold

Small, medium houses in PvE should be ingame gold

Large estates and special houses in PvE should be crowns. So we can identify who lives in those houses and mock them for being crownstore jockeys.

Small, medium and large houses in cyrodill should be bought with AP

I'm fine with furniture sets for crowns, because it will also be craftable. The housing should only be available for in game gold.

I mostly PvP so I don't need a house. I sleep in barracks overnight like a real soldier. If it's affordable for in-game gold, I will consider it (but you get the basic one free anyway), but I will not touch anything crown store related ever.

I'm sure ZOS is going to have PLENTY of opportunities to gouge us for housing accessories in the crown store, so I think the house itself should only be purchasable with in-game currency.
