Can I update my current account for DLC by using a ESO gold purchase?

I'm a returning player with just the original content, but very tempted by the gold eso price, would be a great way to obtain all the current DLC, is it possible to upgrade my current account by buying a gold eso? I was considering buying from Amazon.co.uk.

Or would it only work if I bought direct through the eso website?

I am fairly low level 22, but I am not a big fan of restarting back at level 1 if the eso gold purchase would only work on a brand new account.

Advice pls TYI

there is a guild & glory DLC bundle - which should be cheaper than the gold edition, try searching for that on amazon, while you wait for someone who knows the answer to the question you actually asked comes along ;)

Aaaah Ty, I shall check the site too, as the gold edition in the UK shows on eso sales page as 19.99, would be cool if it is even cheaper, I'm kinda stoked to jump back in, but I'd like all the dlc too

before you purchase bare in mind that 'black friday' is very soon, i have no idea what kinds of offers will be available on amazon or directly through crown store, but it may be worth holding off just a bit longer! (if you can)

The problem with the DLC bundle on the Crown Store is that it's limited to just your server. So if you play on PC/NA, you'll unlock the DLCs there, but they won't be available if you decide to play on PC/EU. In contrast, the codes you buy and activate outside of the Crown Store--e.g, Imperial Edition code or Gold Edition code--will activate those features across your entire account, regardless of what server you're on.

If you never plan to check out another server, this is a moot issue...

That is true, I have the base game, but I'm finding it pretty hard to find the actual page for the DLC guild and glory bundle, I've checked the store and the crown page, its a tad confusing.... I would of thought the offer would of been fairly prominent..

Thank you, I currently play on the EU server as I am based in the UK, I must admit I had not considered changing server.

The Crown store currently are charging £14.39 which is very tempting. Does that come with a mount etc like the gold edition?

But equally tempted to buy the gold edition if no mount in the dlc bundle as I have no mount currently, but still a bit confused if I can use a gold code with my current account, gold code is currently £19.99

If on PS4 you can buy gold edition, and it'll add dlcs to your existing ESO account, so you don't need to start a new game.
I bought hard copies of gold edition instead of glory DLC pack in crown store, cos cheaper elsewhere for the gold edition hard copy.

If I recall correctly - gold edition is only for new players only. If you buy it - you need to make a new account to activate it on.
Guilds and Glory pack is meant as an upgrade for existing customers. (You can also use leftover crowns to buy a starter pack which is on sale atm for dirt cheap and includes a unique horse, a pet, some potions/food/xp scroll).

Endoly - v16 Tiny Redguard Sharpened MaceBlade
Egosalina - v16 Breton Cheesus Beam Specialist
Egowen - v16 Dunmer Whipping Expert (Riding crops eluded her)
(Yes, I had to grind all these to v16)
Akamanakh - lvl 22 Khajiit GankBlade (Inspired by Top Cat)
Targos Icewind - lvl 34 Imperial (Future) Jabplar
    (CP 830+)

    PC - EU

The Imperial Edition is meant for new players too, but there's nothing preventing you from activating an Imperial Edition code that you buy from a third party on your account. That's how I did the Imperial upgrade a while ago.

Or you can become a ESO member then get all DLC and future DLC for free as long as you pay your membership that way you dont have spend so much money.

"free as long as you pay", I love that.
On topic though, if you are interested only in DLC, then buying them with crowns is much cheaper than subscribing in the long run, especially if you buy crowns during a sale.

In theory, it should not be possible to upgrade an existing account on PC/Mac using a Gold Edition, as Gold Editions are for new accounts. If you tried to add a Gold Edition code to your existing account, you would likely receive an error stating "You do not qualify for this product".

To buy the Guilds and Glory DLC, you need to use the in-game Crown Store, as you cannot buy items from the Crown Store on the ESO website. The Guilds and Glory DLC does not include a mount or pet.

I really wish people would stop posting this outdated misinformation. You can indeed now buy a Gold edition (through Steam at least) and link it to your existing non-Steam account. I know because I just did it. I had a non-Steam version of the game that I bought at launch and I just upgraded by buying the Steam version and linking it to my existing account. It even recognized all my existing addons when it installed.

Gold is only for new. DO NOT BUy if you already have the game (based on Gina's post weeks back)
The DLC bundle is what you should buy via the crown store

It's crown store rules tho so perhaps it's best to just subscribe to ESO plus until you accumulate the crowns to buy the crown bundle. That way you're not limited and it's try before you buy or only play what you like and save crowns for other stuff.

That's why I said "in theory". It's not supposed to work, but there are rare instances, such as this Steam account linking situation, where it does.

The Steam situation is an exception specifically because you are essentially overwriting your existing ESO account details with your Steam-linked account details. Your existing game edition is overwritten by the edition of the game you purchased on Steam when you link the accounts.

If you tried to download the Gold Edition from the ESO Store, you would not be able to, as your existing ESO account already has an active PC game edition. The same should apply to a retail PC Gold Edition; the code in a retail PC sale is a code for a complete edition of the game, and should not be applicable to an existing account with an active edition of the game. (It's different on consoles, as the code in a retail console sale is only for the DLC and items, and therefore can be applied to an existing account as the code itself doesn't include a complete game edition.)
