That sounds very strange to me but ofc no offence to the guys doing if that's your thing fair enough not for me though.SolidusPrime wrote: »RP does in fact equal role playing. People that RP are putting themselves in their characters shoes, and playing them and reacting with them the way that CHARACTER would, and not the way the PLAYER would. At the same time, they talk "in character" - speaking as though they were actually that character. Kind of like acting. You're pretending to be a person that lives in Tamriel, so no mention of Xboxes, or the election, ect. If you're character is evil, you do and say things an evil character would. Veteran RPers will even go sofar as to do things like use slang native to the world, and research a lot of the ingame lore as to make the character more "believable".

It can be quite fun. I rp extensively in a large rp community with multiple guilds and characters of varying professions, personalities, goals, races, ect. It's a nice break for me and extends the games enjoyment when I'm not busting heads in Cyrodiil or running vet dungeons/trials.

Do they actually play the game without evoking RP elements? Just curious.
I'm not very imaginative tbh the most creative thing I do is make my fantasy football team for the year. That sounds very strange to me but ofc no offence to the guys doing if that's your thing fair enough not for me though.
Have you ever written a novel or short story? RP is kind of like writing a collaborative novel with other people. Or maybe a play. That might be closer to the reality: a collaborative play.
Thought of in those terms it's really not so strange.

Sounds like it would be fun to watch a bad sarcastic type RP on twitch, any famous ones out there I could check out?

Seems like it would be just as easy to not read it or move on if it wasn't your thing. To each his own though, I always say.
Some of that sounds brilliant would have never thought people do that kind of thing in games, It's like they are adding a whole new level.SolarCat02 wrote: »RP in these sorts of games goes all the way back to tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons, if not earlier.
Some people will just play the character to level up and get the loot to get better equipment, others will have their character turn down their share of gold reward at the end due to a vow of poverty or have their character run away from the random spider encounter because their character has arachnaphobia or rush into a fight stacked against them because that character has a crush on the current target of the bullies.
Depending on who you are playing with, the end results of either playstyle can be very rewarding, and frequently funny. But it really does hinge on who you play with.
You know I have never been to a pub in this game only place I go in towns is crafting stations or quest markers after reading this think its time I had a night out see if I can pick up some chicksSolidusPrime wrote: »jeremiah911 wrote: »Every time I go into a Brewery to craft food i always see the text chat filled with verbiage that looks to be taken out of a erotic novel. There is a particular crowd that especially likes to RP romantic stuff. That crowd seems to have a decent number of members in ESO - the majority of it never touches that kind of stuff though.
There is no unique terminology or language - I guess I am a little confused by the question. You are just creating a character and persona, and acting that out. So you would speak and talk as that person would, so it really is unique to that world.
Most players do not spend 100% of their time "in character". It will differ from group to group though. Sometimes the "say" channel is always considered in-character, while others are not. Some groups consider you in-character at all times unless you signal otherwise, for example by maybe putting ** before any out of character text. It really just depends on the particular group.

Why would anyone look down there noses at roleplayers?MasterSpatula wrote: »This is an RPG. You don't have to chat in character or anything, but anyone who looks down their noses at roleplayers needs to take a good, long look at themselves.
Of course there is such a thing as bad RP, like pretending your character has some sort of power he doesn't actually have or coming from another setting. But that's a pretty rare occurance.

I wish area chat in Mournhold and Elden Root was filled with people saying "This one ..." or trying to peddle Skooma. Instead all I hear is people breathing, mic static and bros talking about bro stuff ... brah.
