That is an accurate statement about rendering capes...

Not quite, there's no need to involve the CPU in any of this.
This can be done completely in the GPU with a geometry shader ...

That's the point, it seems the developers do think they'd look bad. If that's the case, I agree with them.

So... what it's the point of create costumes with capes, that doesn't work as a cape? *cough* *cough* Breton hero *cough* :expressionless:

ESO making any meaningful use of a GPU?

    Yeah...

I doubt it will be that much of a problem to make capes in ESO. Maybe you could see the cape only on your character. There is always a way..

    it can be done.

personally unless youre a high ranking official, diplomat, ruler king or queen in parts of tamriel it feels stupid for an adventure seeker to wear a cape.

flags banners and lighting. also light armor robes utilize more physics than a cape.

I don't mind having a cloak but prefer if you get the choice to hide it like you do with helms. That way if it looks good you can see it or you can show off the back of your armour instead.

I think capes are childish and cringe so I'm glad they will never add them. If they want to add new equipment slots it will probably be something subtle or invisible.

    Childish?

I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Just going to mention Star Trek Online, a game that released in 2010 on older crappier technology yet managed to do capes without creating lag.......

And yet Cryptic can't handle basic technology like color customization for uniforms and ships. :D

Resistance is not futile! Say no to the Greed Collective™. Boycott Crown Crates.

Jesus people it would be just a cosmetic item like a tabard. I don't want it to have tied stats. This thing would be optional. Optional means that you don't need to have it, but someone else migh want it. Limiting character customization is always bad in an MMO. Also there are many types of capes in RPGs not only those extremely long which hide your entire body.

There's so much more that comes into play when adding armor/clothing than most people realize. The differences in body shapes and sizes alone are very hard to overcome without it looking weird for everybody not using a default body shape/size. Everybody loves floating attire, right?

The point of why this game does not have capes aldready from what I heard is that they caused server lag.

Directly from the developers? Cos otherwise it could just be something you heard. Like, have you heard that moose can fly now? They wear jetpacks. Given to them by friendly aliens.

Not to cast aspersions on yourself but this is a stupid explanation. There's no reason why capes would cause server lag. It would just be 1 additional piece of clothing. So 1 additional piece of information to be transmitted.

Client performance is another matter. Capes - especially if they're moving as most would expect them to - can put a strain on computers and consoles. The addition of capes could bump up the system requirements. Given how many people have already purchased the game and invested time and additional money in it, bumping up the system requirements and potentially making it impossible for some to play would be extremely problematic.

It would probably actually be illegal.

I would prefer quivers for the bow with different types of arrows and a fletching skill amongst all the other crafts... Also a halberd as new weapon would be nice. And a greatshield :P

ZOS have already stated if it doesnt look right they aint doing it.
They cant make it look right without a lot of resources

    Option 1 - Physics.
You have dynamic cloaks with lots of details that are impacted in real time by environmental effects.

Option 2 - 1000s of individual Baked animations for every type of cloak for every type of animation knitted together seamlessly. They only consider player movement and dont react to the environment at all.
    Jumping up
    falling
    sneaking
    walking
    running
    sprinting
    DW combat active 1
    DW combat active 2
    DW combat active 3
    DW combat active 4
    DW combat active 5
    DW combat ultimate
    2h....resto...destro...

So you either crunch 1000s of cycles automatically using physics and cripple the system or you spend eternity making 1000s of unique baked animations for every possible unique action that merge seamlesslsy....even with animation cancelling :/
Now where do you want ZOS to devote all their time ?

Yes....cloaks are cool. No... it aint happening in ESO unless you are going to bankroll it.

    Hey everyone,
I was wondering if Zenimax online would be able to add capes into ESO. The point of why this game does not have capes aldready from what I heard is that they caused server lag. It has been two years since then and the techonology got some improvement. I think it would be awesome for this game to have capes. As almost in every ESO wallpaper people have capes in there. What do you guys think?

My two cents; I prefer not, maybe for a costume but not interested in a cap slot. If it is added, please make this after adding more classes. I want to make a Necromancer class.
    Baskin Robbins always finds out.

I don't think we need capes. They said "no" to capes. If they ever do implement capes, they should be cosmetic only. I want to be able to not equip them at no detriment to stats or be able to toggle them off.
