Health Drop on Weapon Swap

My health drops to 80% whenever I weapon swap on my tank. Anyone know why this happens? It only happens when

Do you have more health on one bar than the other? Some skills or enchants can give you extra health on one skill bar.

It's a UI error I think. If you go to your character stats while it's creeping back up, they show the full health amount. But I can't think of how to test this.

Bar swapping is very poorly-implemented in this game. When you bar swap, the game engine removes all bonuses from the gear on your current bar--enchantments and set bonuses--and then applies the bonuses from the new bar.

For example, let's say you have 25K health as a tank who has sword-and-board on both bars. And let's say that, of the 25K health, 1K of that comes from the 5p bonus of the Ebon set that you're wearing and another 1K comes from the health enchants on the shields that you're using. Oh, and your shields are a part of your Ebon set.

Under this example, here's what happens when you bar swap: The game behaves as if you had unequipped your Ebon shield. So you lose 2K of max health (from the health enchant and from losing the 5p Ebon bonus). Then once the bar swap completes, you regain that 2K of max health. The problem here is the current health: Your max health goes from 25K->23K->25K in a split second and you won't notice it. But your current health will go from 25K->23K->23K--restoring 2K to your max health doesn't instantly restore the 2K lost from your current health--instead, you have to get it back through recovery or heals.

Furthermore, everyone in your group also loses and regains the Ebon buff and will take a 1K hit to their current health that will then need to be healed back up.
    1. The bar swap system is stupid. The game should take into consideration what bonuses exist on the bar that you're swapping to and only remove/re-add bonuses if they are different. Instead, it takes the lazy route ("lazy" in this case meaning it's easier to program it this way) of removing and re-adding bonuses.
    2. Unless the bar swap system gets revamped, never use an Ebon weapon/shield. If you use Ebon, use only jewelry or armor. No exceptions.
    3. Unless the bar swap system gets revamped, never use a Twice-Born Star piece in a weapon/shield slot (because you'll lose your 2nd Mundus on bar swap).
    4. If possible, try to avoid Max Health/Stam/Magicka set bonuses on weapon slots. For example, many people use Bahraha's sword and shield for offensive magicka tanking. I limit myself to just a sword or just a shield, not both, because the Bahraha 5p bonus isn't adversely impacted by bar swaps, but its 4p bonus of Max Stamina is.
    5. There is no way to avoid this problem for the stat enchantment on a shield, which is why I prefer to have shields enchanted with the least important (and easiest to recover) of the 3 stats--health. I would not want to tank with a shield enchanted with max stamina.

Well, if you are playing a nightblade, this shouldn't be that unusual - each shadow ability grants more max health. However 20% less seems quite a bunch, unless of course you have 1h/shield on one bar and a different weapon type on the other bar, in which case you might lack the common health enchantment that's on the shield.
You reveal yourself best in how you play.

My weapons are Plague Doctor, but not my shield. So, that might explain some of it.

It happens because of how the game is designed.
