When I started the game, I started with inventory and it was the correct choice for me, being a first-timer to MMO's and the severely restricted inventory when compared with the previous ES games. While doing this, I also put as much gold as I could into raising the bank capacity. Then after finishing the inventory bumps on the characters, I next did speed, and I'm about done with that, and I left stamina for last. When I got the extra 4 characters, since the bank was now maxed, inventory was much less important, and so I started with speed on those characters, and they're about a quarter of the way through. I'll next do stamina, and leave inventory til last. Another factor in this is that I wasn't a sub when I started, but became one recently, receiving the crafting bag. That also alleviated the need for inventory for the later characters.
inventory is only one space each time, stamina you hardly notice the difference, while speed gets you around fast and is noticeably faster especially if your going to PVP
I can't imagine doing it any other way. When additional character slots became available I instantly created 4 new ones JUST to start leveling their speed then inventory, knowing it'll take forever.
You can change race, name and even appearance if you really end up hating whatever you created. But there's no sensible way to overcome the 180 days it takes to max out riding skill. So start ASAP. It's even worse than crafting trait research.
I suppose you could buy riding lessons but I'm pretty sure that would be hundreds of dollar$.
Speed 10
Stam 10
Then I train speed and stam equally.
I have never maxed either out, since I do them equally. But, once I do, then I will train inventory space.
Speed to ten, then stamina to ten. Both to twenty. Then rotate between all three until inventory is at 20. Wrap speed and stam, and finally finish off inventory.
REALLY suprised people are saying speed first,I do it last. Carry space first then stamina then speed. Stamina is what stops you getting knocked off so I find that helps more. Speed is just a luxury (and you can use rapid manouver)

Speed to 20
Stamina to 20
Inventory to 20 (at 20 mount now looks better if you like that effect)
Speed to 60 (fast mount is very useful and may be essential)
Stamina to 60 (you don't want to be dismounted easily when rushing past inessential mobs)
Inventory to 60 (may as well finish what you started)
Btw, I like to get my bag space up to 140 on day 1 of any new alt I make which influences my thoughts above regarding the mount.
