Thieves guild gave you a quest line which involves a lot of sneaking around with a really shallow stealth system and has a bunch of repeatable quests that involve a lot of sneaking around with a really shallow stealth system. There are also some bosses. Oh and a trial which is pretty cool.

Dark Brotherhood gave you a quest line which involves a lot of sneaking around with a really shallow stealth system and has a bunch of repeatable quests that involve a lot of sneaking around with a really shallow stealth system. There are also some bosses. OH WAIT, there's more. We get to farm motifs from daily quests like in wrothgar! except these have a drop rate of like 1%. I've gotten one page in 40 runs of each quest, but at least I have SOMETHING to do, right?

Wrothgar was a large and interesting landscape. It has snow blind ice fields and snow covered mountians, rocky deadlands, large expansive ruins/brindes/walls that just sort of feel like they have a history, 2 public dungeons, 8 or so delves, 6 rather large world bosses, vMA (for better or worse), one of the largest cities in the game, the museum collectibles, etc. It's just a much richer and more involved and carefully planned DLC.

TG and DB really just seemed like ZOS wanted cash in on the popularity of those guilds in the other Elder Scrolls games, rather than delivering a rich experience.

PC/NA - Nightfighters, Raid Leader and Officer
Lilith Arujo - DC sorc tank/dps/healer - Dro-m'Athra Destroyer, Gryphon Heart, Grand Warlord

    Original Addons:

I was disappointed that DB was basically a clone of TG where you press X instead of E while in stealth. Should have spread those out a bit. Add to that the fact that they force heroic characters to be petty criminals for nothing more than miniscule amounts of gold if you wanted to partake in the new content.

    yes ... 2 public boss - 2 easy and solo dungeon - 14 main quest - a pile of repeatable quest ...

I would certainly like a big new area. But I did enjoy Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood.

Vvardenfell please, ZOS. We know it's in the files. :D

Except that people had been screaming for TG and DB since Beta, so it was further up the "to do" list.

Wrothgar was such a success because it followed a long period where we had had nothing new to see or do. All of a sudden here was a large expanse with loads to do.

TG and DB are nice - they look great - but there isn't as much to do. And yes, there is very little difference between pressing X or E to complete a "quest". I don't care too much for all the sneaky gameplay, but ZoS said ti's what people wanted...

Maybe Wrothgar seemed so good because we had been starved of content. Maybe it's not fair to compare TG and DB with Wrothgar, but I'd prefer them to have worked on larger, more extensive DLC than on OneTam, mainly because I have yet to see that OneTam has all that much to offer me...

    It's just you.

    Well....speak for yourself.

IC has a love/hate thing going on, nice PvE horrible PvP (gank fest, took me a while to grab the shards, bosses, molag etc solo).

Wrothgar is the first and only proper zoned DLC, Malstrom is in there, a must have for end game PvE. Magicka guys can at least run 4 Aether pieces and make due w/o MSA weapons, but not stamina guys, its pretty much a must have to get those sharpened weapons (which todate as of 174+ runs i never got).

Hew's Bane and Gold Coast, both DLCs are very small and very focused. One is for stealing and looting and the other is assasinations. Mind you every since Dark Brotherhood DLC stamina has gone insane in PvE and especially in PvP.

SoTH DLC = new dungeons only, with one set very stamina focused and causing chaos in PvP.

Update 12 = More stamina focused monster sets, a couple of interesting magicka ones, but once again stamina really shines there.

Have you even gone through the 100's of achievments? Have you read them? You basically speed run and no death run the non vet dungeons and do them in hard mode as well as certain number of kills (kill 500 pirates in Blackheart Haven for example). Then discover and clear 5 anomalies in Craglorn, Ankura Burial Sites and Iron Orc Nirncrux mines...

In terms of quests, skyshards, skill points, storyline....nothing in this update, and the weapon ultis (again stamina guys) will just be stronger in PvP.

The game is out of wack in term of balances, but yes to answer the OP's question you are correct, the DLCs started out nicely (IC and Wrothgar) then got smaller and less interesting with each update being very focused for one type of build....stamina.

I am still trying to process, how Zenimax thinks the magicka Templars and both magicka/stamina NBs are balanced in PvP, but its just me. Id rather see one big zone with shards, quests, skill points and a storyline along with incremental balance tweaks, than wait each quarter and see smaller and smaller content with no real thought into balance.
mDKs still need a lot of love!

Even though I quite enjoyed TG and DB, I do agree they were a cash in on the love for those guilds by long term TES players like myself. The ESO implementations had none of the depth of the TES variants of DB and TG. I enjoyed them for what they were - a bit of extra content - but it was very clear they were not shown the respect due to such iconic caming tropes. My personal view anyway.

Wrothgar is something I still enjoy to this day. It's stunning looking, got great repeatables and gear, feels properly fleshed out.

i find IC was the Better content of zenimax , they should do more PVP content mixed with 2 PVE dungeon ^^
we don't care of World boss and Public dungeon and Solo dungeon ... why ? because they are too easy , in contrary of the IC where you have Main quest and real ennemies WHO can kill you .

Keep in mind that such a big change as total scaling and One Tamriel requires loads and loads of work to do. Since they do not have dev team of thousands of people I doubt they had resources to implement something bigger than Shadows of the Hist. So that's why dlc's were so small this year.
I'd like to see Road Ahead for 2017 very much. I suppose if they does not need to make such big and global changes anymore (except fixing bugs of course) they will focus on adding content. We know we will have Vvanderfell together with housing early next year, and this is going to be as big as Wrothgar, or even bigger. But what next?
PS: Battlegrounds are being worked on, but no ETA. And there were zones we didn't hear about since last year - Murkmire, Clockwork City and kingdom of Mefalia.

Was a bit disappointed in the DB DLC but i really loved TG. Stealing is fun, Hew's Bane is great and the story/characters were really good. I still like doing the TG dailies from time to time, just for fun. Like SotH aswell, very small update but the new dungeons are great.

1T, i dunno. It fixes some things with the leveling. I always hated how i was constantly 3-5levels highers than the content i wanted to do, now i don't have to worry about that and can do as many DLC quests and dungeons as i want.
Not the most exciting update ever though, i would've prefered a new skill line or 2 over weapon ultis for example but i still think it's good for the game, also it's free so there's that.

Only thing i'm worried about is that there will be too many people around, one flaw with ESO is that other people tend to get in the way when you're questing or doing delves. Nothing ruins a delve more than other people doing it. And for a MMO that's a bit sad.

Imo delves should be insanced everywhere except Cyrodiil. And public dungeons should be a normal dungeons as well. I have no idea why the hell they made them open. It's a complete nonsense.

ill agree im all about multiplayer here so yes while the other dlcs (tg and db) did have some multiplayer content not enough to keep me logging in every nite wrothgar was awesome and the hype arond tg was good but just failed to live up to my expectations of what an mmo should be releasing as content, with the 3 month content cycle that they promised us (and have kept) i can only see more single player go here do this return home content to be released but from what i can tell majority of the player base want this content so hey atleast they giving some of us what they want

Thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood were tiny bite sized DLC's. Think i finished them in 1/2 days max so yeah small DLC's. I agree with above, basically a clone with pressing X and E respectively. They held little immersion for me as they were that small.
  • themotherconfessor25
For me, Wrothgar has been the last great DLC. The others were fun but Wrothgar had many more quests, achievements, it was unique, there was more to it than pressing E and X... the story line was much improved from others in the game...

I can't wait for another big DLC like that, at least I hope they plan on giving us better immersion, a new land packed with cool things to do, and another good story line!

True. Wrothgar maybe a big area with a lot quests but other than maelstrom arena it did not add anything new to game. At least Theives guild and Dark Brotherhood added more Elder Scrolls aspects to the game. More consistent stealing systems, a way to kill npcs without being detected, poison making, and some good quest lines. When I play the past Elder Scrolls game I spend more time adventuring, stealing and killing than just questing. One Tamriel update may not add something"new" as people may think, but it does make the game more consistent instead a bunch separated systems that do not work well together. I appreciate Zos for putting this out before adding another new area that just makes the older areas bot relevant.
