I really like the arena, it's frustrating in the first runs, but once you got the right strat and practice is fun (at least for me, i want to reach that 560k mark on my Stamblade and get to the top 20 on the all-time leaderboard, i'm currently on 546k).

Yes the RNG sucks, but i got lucky i guess.

What i've got after about 300 runs:

1 inferno sharp (leaderboard)
1 ice sharp (leaderboard)
1 dagger sharp (leaderboard)
1 1h axe precise (leaderboard)
1 2H maul sharp (leaderboard)
1 2H sword sharp (chest)
1 dagger precise (chest)
1 1H axe sharp (chest)
1 inferno infused (chest)
1 resto defending (leaderboard)
1 resto powered (chest)


and...

7 bows precise
Tons of restos
Tons of bows and duals with bad traits
Tons of rings
Tons of restos
Tons of 1H&S
Tons of lightning staves...

Haven't seen that damn Sharp Bow, i need it!
And still looking for another sharp dagger and a precise resto.

I'm glad i do it for fun (i like it, seriously, i go there when im going to be online just for about an hour or there is no raid on schedule), and that's better because if you go for the loot, LORD RNGesus is going to make you cry and go insane!

And you dont actually need those weapons to perform decently on Endgame PvE (i'm not sure if they are mandatory in vMoL because that trial is broken on Xbox One and my guild can't run it for now) and PvP (there is a lot of good builds without them).

I do agree that RNGesus is annoying, its also disturbing how many players out there have almost undeniable proof that ZOS's RNG favors less desirable traits.

But either way, i really dont want it to get to me too much. Sure I'm farming/grinding it, but I do genuinely enjoy the arena. Im having such a great time, usually up until I open the chest. But that really shouldnt be the case, I had fun, and thats that. It'd be nice if I can get what i want.

You know what they say: the maelstrom arena, theres nothing like it in all of oblivion =D

But no way am I spending that long in there all on my own, far more fun things to do in game.

Would love a sharpened destro staff for my Sorc... but it doesn't make or break the build....

Would love some dual wield / bow weapons for my stamina builds...

But they are all above 30k dps in any situation, so not stopping me contributing to any group.... and quite frankly this is a grind too far imho.

I will probably play it at some point. But I don't do farming/grinding. I get bored and end up stopping to go and do something fun instead.

Fortunately I'm also not worried about not having the best of the best possible equipment. If it requires playing something I don't want to do then I just won't have it. I can usually manage to complete all the content I want to do without it anyway.

Nah, I got a Precise Bow and Nirn Infero staff in my 1st 2 clears of that place, which I felt were good enough for me.
I did go back a couple of times and got a Decisive Maelstrom Mace, which I though would be good for tanking but decided I like my Moondancer stuff better so never use it, A powered Maelstrom Greatsword of grain solvent and Powered Resto, which is currently on my templar.

I cleared that place up to maybe 10 times now before I got bored with it and went back to PvP. I'm tempted to go back and farm Winterborn but that can wait til One Tamriel and I can just farm the normal version for that and upgrade it.

I have never set foot in in the place and only ever run through normal once (it was successful). I have nearly 600 CP but so far have never had the desire to go there.

What I wanted:
- Inferno Sharpened.
- Resto Charged.

What I have got so far in order:
- Resto Changed
- defending bow
- nurnhoned bow
- deciscie bow
- defending bow

(I don't have any stam chars I want to play)

I bought the DLC and don't touch that dungeon.

I have a term I use for the type of content VMA is, I don't think I can use the term on the forums but even if I could it would very offensive to more then a. Few people as I personally find VMA to be offensive content.

Even good VMA players who run it all the time want to break something during a VMA run.

Not to mention the neat little paradigm ZOS managed to create by making a progression where some end game trial guilds (group contnent) require you to have farmed for weapons VMA (solo content).

You could guarantee me a drop selection of the exact pieces I wanted from the loot table for each round. A developer could even give me every VMA weapon just for a clear and I wouldn't touch the content. I would turn off the internet before I run the dungeon.

To those who enjoy it kudos to you, I despise it.

I haven't tried the arena yet, but I plan of buying the DLC pack in a few days.

My main is a Nord full stamina DK. He can switch from tank to DD easily, because he has full skills in MA, HA, 1H+S, 2H, Bow, has fully unlocked alliance war skills, fighters guild and undaunted. My gear is 1L/5M/1H 5: x Hunding's Gaze + 3 Night Mother's Rage (infused chest, legs, head, divines on rest with stamina enchants) + 3 Robust Agility (weapon damage enchants). I run sharpened maul on 1st bar and bow on 2nd and everything is gold. I run serpent mundus. I have 10K magicka | 18.5K health | 32.5K stamina, 1.6K stamina regeneration (with Ozorga triple trifle pockets), 4K Weapon damage (buffed with rally + ingenous shield) and 50% critical chance. I have blue CP 30 taumaturge | 15 piercing | 15 precise strikes | 87 mighty. Most red ones spread between elemental defender, hardy and thick skinned; green ones warlord, mooncalf and thumbling.

Should it be viable for VMA or I should also unlock 2W skill line before I attempt it?

I don't think most people have a problem with the content itself.
It's the extremely low chances of getting a reward you actually want that bothers people.

I get bored doing the same thing over and over again, so I refuse to take part in this, for example. It's not that I can't complete it, or that it wasn't fun before, I just have no desire to do it 9 billion times and fight the RNG boss every single time.

And actually, this is no different from the lottery boxes, except only more expensive. Even at 1 hour (which, I'm not that good), my time for that hour is worth more to me than $4. I see that I will wind up spending 100x that, and it just ain't worth it to me, even if I did get that amazing weapon I wanted. Why? Because I can think of tons of things that are more fun than being locked into that arena by myself, repeating the same actions over and over ad nauseam. To each their own, but this is just another RNG One-Armed bandit, you're just paying it with time rather than money. It's just another hustle.

People definitely have a problem with the content. The Vet Maelstrom Completion trophy is .2% ultra rare on Ps4.

That being said, I think a lot more people are capable of finishing than have actually done so if they were willing to learn it.

It actually DOES get easier folks, just takes practice. Ya know how when SoTH came out, and it took a couple run throughs on the new dungeons to learn the mechanics, and they became easier with each run?

Maybe I have done this arena 20 or 30 times.

I got Sharpened Inferno Staff on 3rd or 4th run. Sharpened Lightning the run after, another defending ice which I use andifferent a charged inferno which I don't but could be fine on back bar.

Best bow I have is decisive same for dagger, charged for 2H.

Never got a resto and really want one.

I do it from time to time, but just for the 'fun'. I play mostly magicka, so I don't really need vMA wepons.


Will probably do it more often when the token system goes live next year.

I did the arena for the achievement of doing it, not the weapon. My templar doesn't even use a staff and the maelstrom swords would be pointless for her as she is magicka. Perhaps if the swords also came with some kind of magicka enchantment, I would be tempted to try and get a couple of them, but as it stands, I have no need for them

I do plan on doing the arena with my sorcerer next however, and if she were to get a good staff she might use it, but probably not as it would ruin her current setup... So I'm not too fussed about it tbh
