What would you rather spend Crowns on than Lottery Boxes?

well.... it's not an either/or situation is it?

not like you have to spend crowns on anything if you don't want to.

But you do if you want even a chance at some items.
See let's say there's a new awesome mount....Matt F says that special items not yet released have a chance to come from these loot crates. Not just past items

It's literally taking the idea of farming NPCs for great loot to paying real money to farm for great loot and no other way else to get those items.

hang on.... from what i read the items will be typical crown store stuff i.e. cosmetic junk.

nothing that is 'needed' to play nothing that gives an advantage..... if you want to chase that stuff fine, but it is your choice.

    There are two tiers.
    1. Previously released stuff. So ull get crown consumables and a chance of a previous limited time crown item
    2. Special unreleased items. Matt F refers to a chance at a super special mount, etc.

In conclusion, they'll continue to remove crown items as well as adding new super exclusive crown stuff that fall into two categories. Make of it what you will but I predict a requirement coming just like crafting bags, or costume dye that requires real money via a sub.

I wouldn't conclude its only cosmetic cause that's what the crown store is suppose to be but it's not purely cosmetic. Even if items crafted can be better than crown items, items will be added for sure.

Personally, I feel this is a shameful move to exploit people who really wanted a mount but missed out at the time. If you want to bring back old mounts then add them to the store, as normal. However, making people buy multiple boxes in the hope of landing the mount they wanted doesn't sit right to me.

I've never been bothered about lockboxes in other games. If you don't like them then you don't need to buy the keys for them, but plenty of players do and that generates useful revenue for the game. As for the P2W claims, there is absolutely nothing essential in the Crown Store at present and nothing useful that cannot be acquired or achieved ingame, so we're nowhere near P2W and without knowing what will be in the lockboxes we can't begin to speculate whether they will take us down the P2W road. Given the way that ZOS have handled the Crown Store to date I would very much doubt it.

Looking at the original reddit post linked in the OP, I'm far more excited over the Craglorn reworking than I am by the prospect of lockboxes.

I prefer to pay for something I will actually get, not a 'might get'. RNG is such a PITA. I won't buy a single one of these damned boxes. Very disappointed Zeni are going down this silly gambling route.

@wonkydog - that's how I feel, that this is a hideous way of exploiting people.

Gambling addiction is a serious problem & so gambling with real money - or "lottery" - should not be added into games - I don't care what other mmos do, it's wrong.

And how do they get round the law? Gambling is illegal in some places so how to other mmos manage to avoid prosecution?

Whatever, I think it is utterly irresponsible. Not impressed.

And some regions in the game were banned from the $1m PR Stunt giveaway for this very reason. I think I will finish the content I have paid for and then consider whether I want to contribute to the direction the game is heading in. I'm leaning heavily toward a 'no' at the moment

I'm sorry, this may seem like I'm over simplifying here, but you know you aren't forced to buy these boxes right?

I have 23.5k crowns and they don't interest me, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I won't buy 'em. I think in the whole time I've been playing, I've opened the crown store tab about 5 times.

I know that I can chose whether to buy these boxes or not, but there are others who have problems with impulse control & this can cause grave repercussions in real life if real money is the basis for the transaction. And especially if, as apparently will be the case, 'exclusive' items will be in them.

They are just unnecessary and add nothing to the game.

i'v had people i'v known go into debt over damned gamble boxes, it's so easy to just milk the addicts and destroy them while companies line their pockets with easy money.
i'v also seen many games over the years, mmo and others, crippled by these damned gamble boxes, new content became less and less and box content became more and more important because only source of new shinies, which then loops the feeding on addicts thing.

the other week in fact someone on my steam friend list hammered out a whopping $900 or so on damned "lock boxes" in hope to get a COSMETIC item set for a character (Invoker) because? it was one of the best looking things he'd seen in over a year... which backs up more focus on cosmetics and boxes than game additions.

oh and he didnt get his set neither.
PLEASE REPLY TO ME WITH @dsalter otherwise i'm likely to miss the reply if its not my own thread

No I'm not speculating the sky is going to fall.
I'm sharing the negative impacts that began over a year ago with how ZOS has used the crown store and subs to require real money for QoL, features and item access. I'm point blank pointing out its going to be more prevalent.

The sky isn't falling but this isn't what many gamers consider as optional when games began locking exclusives behind real money only.

Yeah I bought the Imperial upgrade and a wolf mount. Nothing else has appealed to me. I'm sitting on a pile of crowns.
