Confession of a "Carebear"... PvP is damned FUN!

I had no idea HONEST!

I've been playing ESO since the start, but had absolutely no desire to go to Cyrodiil just to get my a$$ handed to me by players who are better at this thing than me. This is my first MMO I might add, ;)

I slogged through PvPland on my Stamplar main to unlock Vigor back before the cost was nerfed, but had zero fun...and mostly repaired walls to get the skill I so desperately wanted :(

I recently created a new character and decided "what he hell" I'm sending her to BWB to try this darned PvP thing again once she hit level 10.

This time instead of it being a chore to finish just to get the skill unlocked that I wanted...I really immersed myself into a land at war. OMG what a difference! I can't believe how much fun it has been both attacking and defending keeps, not to mention monitoring zone chat to know where to head next to help out the cause.

Oh course I still die more than I would like...but that's what happens to warriors fighting for a cause. The cool thing is that I've gotten much better at it...and had an absolute BLAST in the process.

I guess my point is...
I used to be afraid to try group dungeons (but have since grown to enjoy them)...and I absolutely NEVER wanted anything to do with PvP...

Until I ACTUALLY gave it a chance.

Expand your boarders...

Ya just might find a whole new world of ESO to have fun in ;)

P.S. If you are looking for some free AP on PC/NA...just look for the character with WldKarde in the name....but be warned...I'm getting the hang of this now >:)

First time playing bwb on PS4 NA when console launch came out, OMG!. Everyone remembers what happened in ep.
So much drama and treachery :o.

Even though i never played eso on pc, pvp use to be fun, not anymore though. Treasure this moment OP because your never gonna experience it ever again.

Glad you're enjoying yourself! Despite the lag and bugs, I find ESO PvP more enjoyable, and with more fluid, dynamic than other games. And bwb is especially fun. There's a pretty loyal and active player base there, in all 3 factions. Stop by the current forum and get to know those that kill you ;)

I was just on BWB AD fun up top, and freakin' NO ONE in IC.

The entire time we were there, we met two other AD.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Also my first MMO and I've tried PVP once, but never really got into it.

I'm making a few alts at the moment and thinking of having one or two try the PVP thing out.

Posts like this one give me the inspiration and motivation to give it a go. Realise that maybe I won't spend as much time dead as I think I will, and that even if I do, it's all part of learning something new.

I've had the exact same experience myself in the last couple of weeks. I wanted to get Vigor for one of my characters so took my level 10 into BWB to play, and she is now level 35 and I'm still there having a great time.
I find the lower levels a little bit more relaxed than the higher level PvP and as such, far more enjoyable.
My character has unlocked every PvP skill available now, and my enthusiasm for the campaign hasn't lessened. I'll be quite sad when she eventually reaches 50 and has to leave.

So I made another character expressly to level through only PvP on there when my first has to retire :D

Same thing - came for Vigor, stayed for fun B) That could be new PVP motto :p

Played in no cp campaign pug zerg yesterday, was fun but a little stressful since my sustain was pretty bad.

Played in Haderus IC today with a small group of friends capturing flags/questing, had such a great time, especially after wiping a bunch of people out of stealth right after flag turned their colors. Oh, the taste of sweet revenge >:)

My ping was stable - i did turn most of add-ons off except for FTC and a couple more qol add-ons. Going into Cyrodiil with Master Merchant on was a sad experience :( Crashed in the first battle

Skye Cloude - Sorc DPS, Master Crafter. Main, the bestest
Lae Lenne - Templar Healer Trial grade.
Dromede - Stamina Nightblade, she's a newb and doesn't know what she's doing
V'oghatta - Stamplar pretending to be a tank
Ulville Thonvella - aspiring Fire Mage, be careful around her fire sticks!
Dromedaris - lost and not found. Named after a shoe, what else can you expect from her? A proper tank in her wildest dreams
Swims-Naked - too pretty to grind, too silly to quest.
Sun Flair - Dunmer Templar that can't spell for life. To bad she's too broke to afford a name change... Well, at least she's pretty...

I am also a 'carebear turned PvPer' just like the OP.

All the poison on the forums made me avoid PvP like the plague for a good 2 years. My hubby also plays ESO, and he expressed an interest in trying it, so we popped into Cyrodiil... and never looked back!

All that poison I see here? Hardly see any once I'm PvPing and I enjoy it enormously. I figure the decent players are busy playing, not posting on forums. Yes there's lag. Yes, I get ganked. And I gank right back! I find it funny! I love the big battles with lots of us on both sides - 3-way 'fruit salad' especially!

I don't take it seriously, though. I just enjoy it for what it is, not caring if I get killed as long as I can pile right in and take a few down with me. For me, PvP is funny! I have a total blast with it.

It's also opening up a host of new dyes for me too. Maybe one day I might actually acquire Legate Black...
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

If only we had more players trying things out instead of just falling for the general "it's too hard, you'll get your ass handed to you".
This is not true just for PvP, it is also true for WGT and ICP.
Two dungeons that are fairly easy to complete once you learn the mechanics, and are moderately prepared.

I have been pulling people's arms to come with me into those dungeons, and I found people are really reluctant to even try it out due to all the negative trash talk those two dungeons get in chat.
    Guess what?
We completed every time. Sometimes it takes longer, sometimes it is a smooth run, but in the end, it all comes down to being willing to learn new things.

I used to be just like you... I avoided Cyrodiil like it was infected by plague, but once I decided to truly immerse myself into it, it provided one of the most rewarding experiences in ESO ever.
That feeling when we ran all the way from Ni-Mohk to Mnem escorting and defending two scrolls, followed by the excitement when we successfully retrieved both...
    ...priceless.
Oh yeah, also: becoming Emperor was a blast

Question; what fun is it to kill someone who never pulled a weapon and was running away? Just curious. I went to IC to craft a set of gear for someone. I know its a war zone/pvp area. I knew I was going to get killed. I made it to the station fighting only daedra and npc enemies. Made the gear and mailed it. Left the station and on the way back got jumped and I ran without drawing a weapon. Got chased quite a distance. I just wondered what the appeal was of hitting someone in the back who wasn't making the slightest effort at fighting. I guess its just me, but that has no "fun" factor at all. At least when they finally did manage to kill me I could respawn away from the fighting and leave.

This was an obvious lapse from the developers:
PvP zones should not have set crafting stations.

Try also posting 'Where is the fight' type remarks to find out where everyone is. You can go follow a larger group round solo while you are waiting to join a group, or stick to being a proxy of the group. Have the fun of a larger group, without getting moaned at by the group leader for not following orders :)

It happened to me with wow as well. I had never, ever done a single battleground or participate in any pvp event whatsoever, and when I started, because I was bored 1 day, I had such a fun time!!
I still need to try pvp with this game but even though I am 250 champion level i still have soo much to do from the pve point of view xD but i will definately try pvp and I know it won't disappoint me

@WldKarde, glad to hear you had a positive experience.........

I was talked into trying BWB by some guildies, about 2 months on I presently have 4 characters which I alternate, eligible for BWB.

Two magicka that are basically ranged, probably my prefered playstyle and two stamina NB full on 'in your face' melee style, which tbh I find quite hard but still really enjoy playing.

I now probably spend more time in Cyrodiil than anywhere else AND I am now playing 'grown up' PVP in Trueflame too!!

If anyone had suggested this would be the case 6 months ago I would have wet myself laughing. :D

It is a really good idea to start on bwb!
I've been PvP'ing for years, most of the time with guild groups of 4-15 players and recently moved away from this to solo/duo pvp and duels. The way I can manhandle some people who got their 501CP for ages and a PvP rank that consist of tens of millions of AP is ridiculous. Liekwise, tehre are enough real challenges out there. Anyone who's just starting with PvP, should really try to get as knowledge as possible in bwb. Otherwie, your only option is to either die all the time and build up furstration, are zerg (either in a group or just zergsurfing as a solo random). This can be fun, give you some AP, but in the long term, you learn close to nothing, or at least you have to invest several thousands of hours of played time to learn stuff you can learn in 50 hours of duelling.

Sadly, bwb is your only option for that. Azuras with "no CP" basically has a few people with intermediate experience but most importantly some groups that only want to maximize their AP/h efficiency by farming the biggest amount of inexperienced players.

Imho even non-pvp players would really like pvp arenas with a good matchmaking system. fighting close battles between equally good opponents is fun. whiel stomping may be fun for many players as well, getting stomped just sucks. if everyone could avoid that, sooo many players would have fun in pvp, just liek you describe it

Don't know; I PvP to fight other groups, not to hunt down essentially defenseless people grinding ogrims or whatever.

OP, glad you gave it a shot and that you're having fun! Feel free to whisper me @heystreethawk for questions or an additional perspective; I think new PvPers are crucial to the game's longevity, and I'd be happy to talk if I'm not knee-deep in a battle.

ESO is the very best pvp out there when it works. The massive landscape and the chaotic battles with hundreds of people of each alliance is epic. Sadly it is still plagued with lag and loading screen in middle of fight, but last night there was an epic battle on the alessia bridge btw all alliances, mega zergs colliding and I was lucky no lag, it really reminded me of how fun it is so welcome!
