ESO is a Broken, Buggy Mess

I've had enough of people bloody whinging about anything & everything. If you think you can do a better job at producing an MMORPG then go & do it. Otherwise just stop this constant bitching. Especially when the complaint contains some offhand remark as to just how fabulous a player they are.

    It's been a long day. :(

This is as silly as saying "if the vacuum cleaner you just bought for a hundred bucks isn't working, then stop using it. Its not compulsory." We paid (and many still do, being tied into a subscription) a lot of money for this game and we just want the product to function as advertised.

I can't complain, i am modder/game developer myself and my creations are usually allot more of a buggy broken mess then ESO.
I am actually impressed of what they have done and that it's not more of a broken buggy mess than what it is.
after all - this is a multi OS/platform MMO game whit almost 50GB worth of assets and a brand new previously untested server technology that we are talking about here.

its a little bit of a wonder that it is playable at all.

The core problem is that only the PC version gets decent development time.
The console versions are always rushed to release only 2 weeks later in a buggy state.
I know of no other game on consoles with such buggy releases.

ZOS needs to change the console development.
The console versions need more refinement before release.
If this would mean 4 weeks of additional development instead of only 2, so be it.

It is unacceptable how almost each new big DLC release breaks the core game.
Like missing beam lights (2015), infinite loading screens (2015), defective guild traders (2015), defective group finder (2016), loading screens every ten steps (2016), invisible mobs (2016), missing audio (2016) etc. etc. Most of these bugs have been visible after only 1 hour of testing!

I think the game was a lot worse than it is currently. I feel like generally/overall speaking the game has improved a ton & still improving.
There are no more magicka dk & magicka sorc overlords(in pvp), stam has a place in both pve & pvp now (regardless that it's a little better in pvp), the lag isn't as bad as it was (partly b/c some people left, but checks & balances have been updated as well), veteran ranks removed (yay!), amount of EXP needed to level drastically decreased, champion point catch-up mechanic, infinite material bag for subs (best thing that could've happened for us), all trials & armor being brought to max cp rank, admittedly working on battlegrounds/arenas/duels; overall ESO is not in a bad place & has been getting better in my opinion.
Sure they have some bugs & seem to reintroduce the same bugs every other patch, but as long as they are timely on their bug fix patches it's ok. The game is way better know than it has been for over a year IMO.

"brand new" server technology that has been used in GW2 already for years? Such an innovative game isnt it? Like multi platform thingie... nobody did it before, right?

I've seen much, much, much worse but I was disappointed to find myself tripping over and having to report so many bugs when I returned recently. The last of those was a progress blocker in a main story quest, which had been around for at least a month and took them almost two more to fix. That doesn't inspire confidence.
Shut down the servers and comb through this mess until it looks something like a finished product.

For a cliche double-whammy, this is a classic bird in the hand scenario and a catch 22. I'd love to swoop in and executively change a whole bunch of things but from a business point of view it's complicated.

The game has players who like it as is. They've been pouring money into ZO's pockets continuously'ish since launch. The game could potentially pick up other players if it changed certain things. But every change risks alienating existing players and losing their predictable revenue and goodwill.

This may be why spellcrafting remains an ethereal promise two years on. Much of the existing game's design promotes playing alts and hopefully staying subscribed as you level them and get all their skill points. Spellcrafting goes against that and the game already has too many elements which jarr with each other. Do they just add it and say screw the additional discord? Or do they revisit all those other elements and bring them into harmony? If so how would they sell changes to existing class and alt loving players?

Yeah you've seen worse from SteamHighlights on Jim Sterling's channel, but only barely. This ZO$ development team seems about as capable as half the nit-wits that repackage asset packs and call it a "game" and sell it on Steam under 4 different names.

I love all the folks who chime in to say "nobody's making you play"...I'm guessing this is mostly a PC vs Console thing, since PC seems to have gotten better since a bad launch, while console has gotten worse.

But I have to fault the logic: if I pay for a movie and it cuts out halfway, complaining to the theater doesn't amount to a bad review of the movie. I love this game; I would like to play it.

What nobody has to do is click on a thread they clearly don't want to read for the sole purpose of saying "shut up". That's inviting negativity into your own life, and spreading it needlessly to others.

Also, if we all quit as you suggest, ESO goes bankrupt and your game is gone.

If we complain, and are heard, and the problems get fixed, our game goes on forever.

"Lack of creative vision from leadership. Employee morale was terrible. HR policies were very corporate and strictly enforced. huge dev team meant the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing."

"Stop handing out lead titles like they're candy. Stop thinking people who have never made a game before can succeed in important positions. Hire experienced devs rather than promoting QA into dev positions simply because they know how to use the tools. Hold the games you make to a higher standard."

"One thing I came to learn fast is that no one (leadership) really knows what's going on. If you ask organizational related questions expect ambiguous answers. 'I don't know, I'll get back to you." will never be an answer, learn to expect a line of jargon followed up with ambiguity should you ever have a question for leadership. In short, leadership is weak."

"Their vision of game was outdated before full on development got started. They decided to outsource most of the work which shows in final product."

I came to these same conclusions about what is going on behind the scenes after 2 years of playing this game. Funny how you can work your way back to these same conclusions just by playing the game.

Fix the structural problems in the company, and reboot the game. If you do it right and advertise, it will be like a brand new release that will garner a lot of game media attention. The game has so much potential that is not being reached.

Let me make this clear. I do love this game. I have fought for and defended it for some time but I just can't anymore without it showing any real progress in the parts that matter - that being a game that runs smoothly and has fun and rewarding content to do.

Simply put, why should I do the trials when I get all of my end game gear from others sources? Why should I PvP when it isn't a fun display of skill and dominance? I wreck people in PvP much too easily, solo content is dull due to a lack of challenge, and when PvP actually does result in my death I never feel like I lost to a better player. I feel like I lost to the massive zerg that happened to sweep over where I was standing.

There is no server technology that's new or untested here. There are a multitude of MMO's, including mobile MMO's that use the megaserver approach. It's been around for a number of years.
Closest to ESO that springs to mind is Defiance - also EU/US megaserver MMO which actually had a lot more massive battles with more players on screen at once and there were no performance issues whatsoever. It is also considerably older than ESO.

The sheer arrogance of this statement is staggering. If you never feel that you are killed by a better player, you by default MUST be the best player that has ever picked up a controller. Only a zerg of lesser players can kill you and there is no challenge in PvE which makes it dull and boring.

If you bought this game only to blow through all the content to get to end game and rule PvP, you not only missed the entire concept of The Elder Scrolls, but you also missed a great story line and thousands of rewarding things to do.

Personally, I feel that 99% of these problems would be solved by not releasing the game on console at all.

We all should realize this by now, it's only marginally better than it was at launch. I didn't realize how horrendous the bugs and the imbalance was until I took a break to play other games. Playing games like Overwatch, where people complain about imbalance and bugs, I can't even find any personally! I'm so used to things being so much worse that honestly, I have a different standard for what is and is not a finished product from playing and defending this game since beta.

Every DLC is smaller than the last. Every time new content is released, new bugs come along with it. Every balance change only changes the flavor of the patch not provide actual balance. The game itself offers little to no challenge to me anymore, and the only thing that reliably kills me are the bugs or in PvP if I'm outnumbered more than 3 to 1 (3 is my average number that I win against). There's no end game content. PvP is a joke. PvP is nothing more than "who brought more people?" It's just bad. ZOS, please finish your game. Shut down the servers and comb through this mess until it looks something like a finished product.

and you should be realize right now that the state of the game (i'm talking about PC here not console) is getting better, hell, even the cyrodiil are less laggy and more constant than ever

you need to understand how big ESO is, compare that to overwatch?, overwatch is simply tiny blip compare to ESO as a whole, and with that ESO is harder to maintain

"PvP is a joke. PvP is nothing more than "who brought more people?".....but...this is MASSIVE OPEN PVP, the hell are you thinking really?, do you think this is arena with 1v1 only?, no, its massive open war just like how real war happen, size does matter, and deal with it

i do hate how ZoS handle some things, but blame them without considering how big the game is, how hard to maintain said game, with people constantly bi*ching about everything and cant happy with anything, is not fair

Many players continue to play ESO only because of the social connections established here. One can be dissatisfied with the product, express discontent and still have valid reasons to continue playing.

This is the last ZOS product I will buy. It is most likely the last Zenimax product I will buy. It may not be felt yet, but I believe ZOS has tarnished the TES brand.

FFIV online did a massive over haul once the state of the game was deemed a massive failure. The re-released version after the over haul turned into a really good MMO.

This game has so much potential that everyone sees, but I doubt it will ever live its true value as its current state will be the on going state till it is no more.

Gotta disagree with you on that one. FFIV is not "a really good MMO"... It's World of Warcraft 2. And the biggest grindfest ever. That being said one thing FFIV does better than, I think, every other MMO is its side stuff, various events, games and all that jazz you'd expect with a single player FF, they do that really good.

FFIV went from a pile of garbage to a prettier pile of the same garbage with nice side stuff.

Every MMO is a grind-fest, and if there is no grind, it's not an MMO. The two are synonymous with each other.
