On PTS they are all Crown Store, including the original ones from character creation.

Does it show how much it'd cost on crown store?
Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game.

Not yet, they have everything set at one Crown for testing.

Of course it's going to be only for crowns, just like the costumes, mounts, and all the other purely optional cosmetic offerings that do absolutely nothing to change the power/effectiveness of your character. This is exactly the kind of thing that SHOULD be available for crowns. ZOS has to monetize the game somehow, and cosmetics are the perfect and fairest way to do it. If they don't charge for cosmetics, what should they charge for? Go back to a mandatory subscription? Start selling gear/upgrade mats for crowns? There is no other good option.

If I bought the game - why the hell should I also buy the assets in the game piece by piece.
Surely by buying the game I should get the base game hair styles for free... not buy them twice? WTF?

You're absolutely right, but it should all be available via gold and / or quest completion and / or achievement points and / or <insert idea here>, too. I'd even be ok with Zenimax letting people buy crown store items to then sell on guild stores.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

The only option so far is using crowns.
But yeah, they could at least make basic hairstyles cost ingame gold. Well, too late, I guess.

To give another game as an example, GW2 handles cosmetics much more consumerfriendly. Dye without restrictions (even costumes), wardrobe system to change appearance of items can be used without the Gem Store, appearance change kits can be acquired in-game (RNG though). There's no subscription option and Gems (GW2's Crowns) can be bought via ArenaNet themselves by in-game gold.

Cosmetics are of course what ZOS should monetize, but we should not encourage them to monetize them endlessly. I can't understand why people would be against a plea to make cosmetics more widely available (or in the case of the barber shop: more immersive), except when said pleas come across as annoying BabyRaging. It's not a free to play game, after all. ZOS does have income also from box sales and people who buy or rent the DLC. As paying consumers we can expect more from ESO than from a F2P title in that regard.

Why? When you bought the game you were paying for it as is, there wasn't even an option to change your features. You're not paying for the "assets" twice, you're paying for the ability to change them without going through the character creation process again. Smells like entitlement to me.

You can easily create a new character for free. To change things like name and race should be paid for in real money. They really should split it up and do gold for anything cosmetic and real cash for account related or Race changes.

Agree with paying, like they need to cover the cost of implementing it right?

Or as mentioned I could just create a new character for free.

One buys the pack and has continuous use of all the hair styles forever. It's a one time crown purchase.

It's was, or should have been, obvious that this would be crown. Most people won't be upset. No reason to be.

The entitlement argument has been used countless times and is broke. Everyone on here is a paying customer of ZOS. If you're happy that staple features of pretty much any (MMO)RPG are coated in micro-transactions simply because they failed to implement them for launch, while it's not even a F2P title, you're getting your wish. As I've said, I can't for the life of me understand why customers would be against the reduction of microtransactions and paywalls.

Should we also have paid for the ability to steal things? It didn't come with the base game? Paid for the Collections System? For chat bubbles, subtitles, controller support? Didn't come with the base game. ZOS has to make their money back making those systems! Nonsense.

ZOS will make money where they can make money. Thing is, ZOS makes plenty of money from selling boxes and DLC. They're continually putting cosmetic options behind paywalls. In before Housing will be restricted heavily by Crown Store purchases. It's fine that they monetize some cosmetic features, but between putting two highly anticipated systems (barber shop and costume dyeing) entirely behind a new paywall, I can understand the discontent, if not in the least for the precedent it creates.

I think cosmetic options are the perfect thing to be put behind paywalls. And with each DLC, they have added another costume/polymorph thingie that can be earned in game. As well as introduced new motifs, which can also be earned in game or bought with in-game gold.

Personally, I'm going to give one of my khajiit a haircut, but other than that, I made my characters look the way I wanted them from the get-go.

Except you could just, you know, make a whole new character looking the "correct" way using the original styles anyway and pay Zenimax nothing. You shouldn't have to pay Crowns to change original game appearance, new stuff sure, but old ones? That are just in character creator? Lol why bother?

Another feature I'll ignore then if that's the case. After maxing bank space ingame gold seems more and more worthless, the only thing to spend on are repairs and guild trader items from other players.

zos absolutely has the right to make money from this game in any way they can. Of course, they ride the edge of a sword in how they do this. They risk driving away customers if they make the wrong choice. Ultimately, the Barber shop is about vanity, making characters unique and cool. It has nothing to do with playing the game. However, players really like being able to customize looks. All one needs to see this is look at the large variety of mounts, pets, and costumes everywhere in the game. Only time will tell if putting all Barber shop options behind a paywall cuts a major artery.

zos would be smart to allow a one-time usage of each Barber shop feature as a gesture of good will to their customers. They can't make any money if players are so salty about having to pay for the highly desired ability to customize that they quit.

I dont recall them ever promising the community that it would be available through in game gold. So anyone upset with this only have themselves to blame for expecting it to be a certain way without enough information.

Now that theyve announced that youll have to pay for developer time on a COSMETIC feature. Youre upset? Do you not understand how businesses operate under the Free 2 Play/Buy 2 Play business model? Because if you dont, you only have yourself to blame for not educating yourself on it.

I'd prefer some changes be in-game gold.
I understand the crown offerings but this change doesn't create any addition stress for the devs or the servers.

I also understand they are a business seeking opportunities for profit but 2016, this game is really becoming a pay to play instead of Buy2Play with the ESO plus added requirements so without moderation, it's becoming a sore subject for me due to continued Xbox One issues from ZOS' side.

Overall there is way too much monetizing because even with an active sub, they've positioned the game to triple in cost for normal play for anything cosmetic, most of which is real money exclusive.

I tend to support ZoS generating revenue through non-pay-to-win sales. That revenue both pays the electric bills for servers and keeps a paycheck coming for the good folks that produce and support the game that I enjoy spending my time playing. I like to see people keep their jobs, and I like to see fun MMOs stay strongly supported into the future.
