This is the official feedback thread for the Style Parlor Assets (Crown Store), including new hair styles, adornments, and markings. Specific feedback that the team is looking for includes the following:
  • Was it clear how to buy and use the Style Parlor assets?
  • Did they work as expected?
  • Is there anything you would like to see changed and/or added to the experience?

Big bug right now with hair styles! If you preview a hairstyle in the crownstore, it's basically impossible to take it off without previewing another hairstyle, and it's nigh impossible to retrieve your original hairstyle. Also, it makes it impossible to equip another hairstyle in the collections menu. Hope this helps!
Edit: To replicate, preview a hairstyle in the crownstore, then try and equip a different hairstyle in collections. Your hairstyle will switch to the one that was previewed in the store rather than the one you selected.

Everything is fine. I love the changes, but we really need an option to filter by race. For example, if I'm Khajiit I should have the option to toggle off assets that don't apply to my race.

-The UI is a mess, it's an endless cluster of almost identical busts thrown into 1 menu regardless of race or gender. Please add filter options that only show items you can equip and not the entire inventory.
On a side note regarding appearance change, characters will automatically snap back to forward face when appearance sliders are modified. This makes scaling body parts difficult.

Agreed. Gender and Race filters would improve the UI 10 fold.

I REALLY need to be able to zoom when trying painting, facial hair and hairstyles on, not only hats.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

    Got the preview bug too.

Agree, needs a filter. There are too many items now. The UI needs to return to the place of the last selected item, as well as have a quick clear button. Unlocked should be shown by default, and just generally there needs to be a way to organize your items.

Well...I have been pretty happy with most of the other cosmetic changes, but I have to say I'm not really enjoying the look of the Aurbic Eye. It looks really bad on any of the chars I tried it on. The lip liner is a bit ill advised imo.

It isn't really clear in the description that the head markings will replace the ones you are using. I would really like an option that would also work along with what I have, so I can have my make up and other markings.

I also wasn't all that into the new tattoos. The wings, and daedric looking symbols , I think both designs could be much better, and perhaps more lore friendly.

Are these items really going to live like this?

I have 1 character (with short hair) where I just want to change my earrings occasionally. Why can we not have stuff like a jewelry pack or a body paint pack or a face-paint/makeup pack that we just pay for once to unlock once and then can use at will? Provide a mirror next to dye stands so we can do our faces (makeup/warpaint/dirt)/jewelry/facial hair as often as we like, as long as we have bought packs of these items. There could be multiple packs of these types of things released over time.

Depends how much these things cost I suppose, but IRL people (both male and female) only have to buy jewelry once and then can switch between all/any of their owned jewelry as often as they like at no extra cost. Getting a haircut involves a cost each time (unless you really want to go the basin on the head route or let your mum do it). It seems to be the wrong way round.

EDIT: Also why can my female characters not have a beard? The Sailor's Squid Goatee would look fabulous with my dyed wedding dress.

Also not clear about where I should put personality feedback, so I am doing it here as it is an appearance thing.

Like the drunk personality - good amount of sway and idle animations.

The others (melancholy, furious, cheerful) seem lacklustre however - if you want to charge actual money for these things you need to try a bit harder - especially the cheerful one, there is very little discernable difference between that and how my character usually looks - and furious just appears to be pulling an awful face and raising my fist occasionally. Melancholy is alright. Pretty underwhelming IMO, sorry.

OK I tried an appearance change token, and that allowed me to change my jewelry.

I don't want to have to do this to change jewelry (and nor will I EVER bother buying an appearance change token for this one thing).

I WOULD buy jewelry packs to change any character's jewelry at will. I would also buy makeup/warpaint packs, or facial hair packs so that I had a range of looks to use on my multiple characters (both male and female, of all races). So I think ZOS are actually hampering what they could achieve here. As it is, I am not going to buy a token just to change an item of jewelry, so ZOS are possibly missing a trick.

As of right now, if you're a vampire none of the cosmetic new arrivals will be worth a purchase. The hideous vampire skin hides 99% of all markings and or skin embellishments; the other 1% makes slight grey markings. Is anything going to be done to improve this?

The hairstyle menu section is too messy. when you buy all of them its not easy to navigate. Maybe put all those your current charrecter cant use below the others under a kind of tap called "unusable hairstyles" or something like that. Allso being able to rotate your charrecter would be nice aswell or atleast having it continue from where you left off insterd of allways starting at the top of the seletion. This is regarding the items in your menu after purchasing.

Im allso worried about the price tag but since i cant see that i wont jugde for now.

Ok so if you apply a hair style from the crown store and then go to change your appearance hair style you can't actually see what your changing when using the slider because the crown store item takes the front layer... intended?

I am SUPER disappointed with the hairstyles available to human women. Too few and most of them hideous. Who is designing these things? Also, why no new make-up? Why no new jewelry except ONE piece that is, frankly, hideous?

On the positive side, costume dyeing is WONDERFUL. PLEASE bring back all the costumes you have discontinued as I didn't buy some of them because they were in such hideous colors.

Hats.... why does the Robin Hood Hat change my hairstyle? Not good. Also, most of the hats are ugly.

[*] Was it clear how to buy and use the Style Parlor assets?
Sort of... I was confused about the fact that all existing hairstyles were in one pack, and the new ones were bought separately. I think the existing hairstyle pack was linked from the Crown Store Featured Items display, which made it unclear that they were only the existing hairstyles.
[*] Did they work as expected?
After cycling through a few different hairstyles, the game refused to update the character's appearance any more. I had to relog. And this cleared the NEW indicator alongside the hairstyles which I had bought separately, which was annoying as then I didn't know which were the new ones.
[*] Is there anything you would like to see changed and/or added to the experience?
First of all, we need a filter. Desperately. The filter at the top which shows "All hairstyles" or "Unlocked only" or "Locked only" needs to have an "Only for my race & gender" option. It doesn't matter how awesome a hairstyle is if it's not available for that character.

Also, in "All hairstyles", hairstyles which aren't for that character's race and gender should be greyed out.

Secondly, we need to be able to rotate our characters to look at the hairstyle from the side and back. You can do this with costumes, so I'm not sure why you can't do it with hairstyles.

I kinda forgot to preview the hairstyles from the Crown Store itself, so I'm not sure if you can rotate your characters there.

Might as well comment here too. While the old, familiar hairstyles seem to (on first perusal) behave in much the same manner as they do already in-game, many of the new hairstyles lack basic hair physics. The Wrapped Horsetail and By Kyne, for instance have ansolutely zero bounce or give while walking/riding, looking more like tacky foam helmets or decorative table centerpieces than hair.

I would be reticent to purchase any new hairstyle were I not assured that it possessed enough basic hair behavior that it does not look utterly ridiculous and jarringly stationary while moving.

As mentioned in this thread and official media, it's possible to buy all the existing hairstyles in a bundle pack. If they don't already exist - and I haven't looked closely enough to check whether they do or not - it should also be possible to buy bundle packs of all the existing adornments, head markings, and body markings. All of these bundle packs should clearly indicate that they don't include any new styles.

Filters are definitely needed in the Collections, even if it's just a "Usable by this character" filter. Fading out items in the Crown Store that cannot be used by the current character would also be good.

    Initial Impressions:

    1. The Collections Menu needs sorting abilities. We should be able to display what's usable, mark items as favourites (similar to locking), etc. With an ever increasing amount of items it's getting difficult to find what you want and change. A search text would also be appreciated.

    2. Beards are ugly. They go from ZZTop to the ridiculous. What about some nice regular beards for average folks?

    3. Some of the items cause my Mac to crash out of the game. I selected a hat and now my game crashes whenever I try to load my character.

    4. You might want to consult a hairdresser style guide book for haircut ideas. There are very repetitive ones right now and not many look appealing.

    5. I don't like the Hist Guar, the glowing orange paint looks tacky and makes me lose a sense of immersion.

Aside from the bugs already reported and the QoL suggestions I have a corcern with the crown price for base game hairstyles. I feel like it's charging again for something we already bought. Yes, I know this new feature lets you pick whichever style whenever you want but nevertheless, this should cost gold (like skills refund for example). I just hope it's not over priced at least.

My wish list for this feature is:

More Beards, way more beards. I'd like to see some ridiculous elven beards, and perhaps some more refined ones like Sai Sahan has.

More hairstyles, a lot more. Why can't I play a Nord who wears the Roman/Imperial hairstyle? What about a tonsure for more than just Bretons? How about the old school elven Ice cream swirl hairstyle? I can't be the only player on the planet that remembers those in past games, and wonders where they went in this one. Obviously more female hairstyles as well. The whole point of a patch like this is to give us greater choice than we had with the character creator some time past. Oh another thing I'd love is to be able to create Black Hair for Altmer. I've seen NPC's wear it, and either that was a mistake or I don't see why we can't do the same. I'm not asking for strange colors: Like purple hair, green hair, etc. Just natural ones.

Another big want, and I'm not sure how to describe this one. There's this ruffled hairstyle Khajiit have, which mirrors the style of their heavy helmet. I like this hairstyle, goes in layers on the top of the head to the back of the neck. I just wish it could be made more grandiose and perhaps end in a queue or ponytail at the back with various shiny doodads. I can't explain why I recommend this other than it seems like something ostentatious the cat people would do.

Was it clear how to buy and use the Style Parlor assets?

    Yes.

    Did they work as expected?

    Yes.

Is there anything you would like to see changed and/or added to the experience?

Well, I will try to give some feedback, forgive me for my bad english:

-The new items beign offered are really few and the quality is not what I was expecting.

    Hair problems

By no means I pretend to offend the people that made them, but the new items are not worth to spend money on them, at least for me.

It took me 5 days to download the PTS and I was really excited about this, but now that I could do some testing, it really let me down.

The design looks really basic and similar to what we already have, there is nothing there for me saddly.

It is like if they where made by somebody who dont know much about hair cuts, please forgive me if it sounds offensive.

    Possible solution

If you need inspiration to design the new assets, take a look at skyrim modders, some of them may be over the top but there is a lot to chose and at least you could understand what people will want.

    http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/10168/?
    http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68311/?

Some of the GW2 stuff too http://dulfy.net/2015/12/15/gw2-new-hairstyles-in-wintersday-patch/

If making those new hairs would be to hard, another solution could be at least to remove the gender lock on the hair bundle to make it worth it, a lot of styles are shared between both genders already but the long hairs are locked.

The tousled bard, the wavy triple braided updo and the windhelm weavenet are beign used by both genders and if those can, why the others cant?

So yeah no gender lock for hair styles.

    Beard problems

There is only 2 beards, a really long one kind fo harley style and a squid one, and both looks ridiculous.

People have been asking you for a Sai Sahan style of beard since the game launched

    tumblr_n4th4vcxte1rihjjto1_500.png

    Posible solution

You can offer a bear bundle as you do with the hairstyles.
Khajits have really nice decorated beards that it will be really cool for other races to have too, I understand that it will need some fixes to fit on the human faces, but at least is something to have till you actually offer good beards as premium content.

Having all races beards unlocked will be a good place holder to keep people busy till the new designs arrive.

    Markings problems

There is only 3 new body markings for humans and the design is really flat and boring.

The winged herald is just 2 super thin drawed wings on the chest and the forehead.
The aurbical symbols is just some daedric stuff.
The mystic zyggazag is actually quite decent, more stuff on that front would be good.

    Possible solution

As you did with the hair bundle, offer also a marking bundle that contains all the markings to be used by everybody. Not asking for argonian scales on humans, just the non beast as you did with the hairs.

If you want to do some extra, allow people to change the color of the markings and fix how markings looks on vampires. If the vampire skin is an overlay that go on top of the skin, maybe give markings top priority so they dont look washed out when you are a vampire.

To get inspiration for future designs you could check this http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/4180/?
Most are quite ridiculous but the tribal patterns are the ones I suggest, also looking at other games for markings like black desert for example, would be some good places to get inspiration from.

    Adornments problems

Only one is beign offered the "Talon veil" and it looks really awfull.

    Possible solution

Basic thing you could do for starters till more assets are made is take all the decorations from all races like earrings, that tiara thingy that woman characters have and offer all kind of combinations, like some earrings on the nose, different styles for the ears, the eyebrow, I dont know be creative, if you dont want to be creative I guess you can just pack all the decorations that are already made in a bundle and sell it but with no gender lock.

One thing I would love to see if the orcs could had proper faces and tusks like in skyrim:

    Orc-792-full.jpeg

As you sell special stuff for argonian and khajits, you could also sell different stuff for orcs, different sizes of tusks with earrings, etc.

    ____________________________________________________

Sorry for the wall of text, I hope this can be usefull.

Just to close this, there is a lot of potential on this, I feel that you guys can do a great job.

My only issue is that always on the art style the game lacks a bit, like painted skin tights armor (that thank god is finnally changing on the latest sets).
If only you would look at what is popular on demand, it could give you a lot of sells.

Thanks for the reading and sorry for the bad english.
