Same prob with red for me also, when red circles on the floor i have trouble seeing them as they blend in. Would love to colour it to my liking.

    Hi all,

Loving the topic and discussion in this thread. We're currently discussing how we could support different color blind modes in ESO for the future. For those of you who are indeed color blind, what kinds of support do you tend to prefer? Some have mentioned just changing telegraph colors, but there are other solutions that could be used to color-correct everything on screen to account for different color-blind conditions (Protanopia, Deuteranopia, Tritanopia). Also, which games have your favorite color-blind support?

    Thanks everyone!

Hi Alex, thanks for the reply! It is great you guys are looking at supporting a color blind mode. As a colorblind player, I have yet to find a game that does a perfect job of implementing a colorblind mode, simply because colorblindness is a spectrum and not a simple condition. It is very hard for non-colorblind folk to figure out what each individual sees.

To that end, the BEST solution I can think of is the ability to change the colors of telegraphs via a simple RGB color picker, like the one used for chat colors in the "Social" options tab. This allows each individual to select the best colors for them, and means that you don't have to establish multiple preset options for different kinds of color blindness. I don't know if this poses issues in terms of how the telegraphs are displayed, but I think this would be the best solution for everyone.

EDIT: Oh, and I almost forgot item quality! This is a tougher change since the item colors are actually written in the text in certain places. If you guys could add either a symbol or some text before the item description, that would be great...wouldn't have to mix up green and gold items anymore...

Just have it be like Skyrim Item name (Epic) or item name (Legendary) etc.

It's great to see some momentum for this. While not colorblind, I certainly agree that it's important to have options that allow colorblind players to be able to detect important events, like telegraphs.

Given that colour-blindness affects approximately 1 in 12 males worldwide (and 1 in 200 females), you would think that just giving options in the settings menu for displaying enemy attacks in a range of different colours would be reasonable.

Mind you, it took them well over a year to get around to proper subtitles, so who knows?

It is needed though, and should be achieveable.

There are also a couple of quests that can be problematic for people who are colour-blind.

None of the games I have played that have colorblind options work for me. I am SEVERLY shade deficient. So any of the presets that most games offer(Protanopia, Deuteranopia, Tritanopia - Battlefield 4 had these) never work for me. I need a preview and a color palette to choose from.

Hello! I am so glad to get a real response from a DEV...

Under your game options you need to add a section for AOE telegraph, then add 4 Sliders to be able to adjust intensity/red/blue/green. It would solve all the problems for us color blind people with out having to add complex options for the various different types of color blindness.

    What it should look like:

    WARNING COLOR
    Intensity: |_____|____________|
    Red: |__________|___|
    Blue: |_____|________|
    Green: |________|_____|
    ___________________________________________________
    ^^^^^^^^^^
Not only would this solve the color blindness issue, it would add more customization to the general public.
If you are up to it you can can even do this for the targeting hue.

    @ZOS_AlexTardif
This is a great suggestion for how to help those of us suffering from color-blindness, I really urge you to consider something along these lines. I'd personally like to see the options to adjust the colors and intensity for both AOE templates and the 'sparkling radiance' that surrounds NPCs when blocking/interrupts are being cued. I'd like to add that if possible a "Preview Window" while adjusting the sliders might be invaluable so that we can see what we're tweaking and changing for best results.

Thanks once again for listening to us!!!

Is this still something that is being looked into? This would be a very nice feature and help eliminate a lot of frustration. It would be nice to be able to customize the color to better fit the diverse types of deficiencies. But if that's to much work and you need presets, i'm Deuteranopia. Though, i know its very common.

There is a problem with stage 3 in Maelstrom Arena. If I miss the animation of the poison hitting the ground I have no clue where the red circle is located. It then becomes a guessing game, and that circle hits really hard. Basically, everything in that round is a nightmare as far as being able to see the bad stuff i shouldn't be standing in.

Another noticeable problem is the Ozara fight. I cannot see the pins and unless i'm in a group with excellent communication there is no way i can tell if there is someone left that is pinned to the ground (at a quick glance). Also, the pin that is sticking up looks like an unused shard, making that tell a pain to look for as well. I feel that being colorblind makes this fight more annoying than it should be.

An unsettling issue. The twins fight in vMoL... I can see the light color swap just fine, but the dark color swap is basically impossible for me to notice. I used to tell my friend that i thought it was bugged because color swap only worked half the time. It turns out i cannot see the dark color swap. I found this out by watching a video trying to figure out how i could tell when i needed to swap as other people seemed to manage getting out in time with no issue. I thought that maybe the character would have some sort of tell that could alert people to get out of the group. After much video watching i noticed the circle, but it was only after they would leave the group and split the middle of the room. And then it was still almost impossible to see. The reason i find this issue unsettling is because the color is not like all the other red circles. I fear it may have different code tied into the mechanic and that it will be something that cannot be seen by us for a long time.

There are other issues but they are not as major as the three i listed. I have either learned other ways to combat the inability to see the bad circles or they do not matter enough to cause deaths. Learning dialog and animation cues is not that hard of a thing to accomplish but there are times when that is just simply not enough. Please continue to work on making this setting a reality.

    @ZOS_AlexTardif: Very much this.

I am colorblind and play with my friend who is completely colorblind. While we both have issues with color, our impairments differ quite dramatically.

Having "modes" will not work as well as being able to select the hue/contrast for what suits our particular needs best... and a mode doesn't necessarily address that since it's a bit restrictive.

I have also been thinking about a color picker being best. Just like with text chat color selections, I would be able to pick the color that stands out and differentiates sufficiently while another player, with other requirements, can pick an entirely different set based on their needs.

Our main issue is with AoE.

Secondary issues are the fixed nameplate/health bar colors for enemies. Nameplates have helped tremendously for identifying group members and their status, but the enemy-is-red theme is very, very difficult to properly take advantage of given the lack of visibility.

Item quality colors is something I consider a bonus since the quality can be inferred out of battle by scrutinizing the stats.

I really, really hope this is added to the game. Thank you.

For me it could be as Simple as Being able to Change the Color code of the circles etc. it's Never been a big deal in Reality, "ever tried playing Eve online as a Red/Green color blind?" But it ensures there are Certain activities that I certainly cannot do.
@Clerics1985 sorry to take this off topic but OMG the EVE thing.

I have a friend who is red/green colour blind and he used to come over and watch me play EVE. I used to poop myself every time he would go "why are there so many red stars in local chat?" as he was seeing my corp members green as red.

    On topic.
I am not colour blind but have a close friend who is and I've gamed with him for years.
I know EVE let you simply right click and change the colour of the identifier icons and he would just choose colours which worked for him. Other games it was normally just features which would switch red/green for good bad to blue/X.

He's also said in the past that shades are a big issue. For example even when you have a red/blue the red shades can be wrong making it a dark brown which merges with other elements and he really needs a system which gives bright colours which he chooses himself.

World of Warcraft actually implemented this with Warlords of Draenor; so very late in the games life.
I think its one of those cases where if your game is big enough and the developers warrant that a change will impact so many that it is worth their developement time over other matters, they will do it. Not sure if this is the case for Elder Scrolls Online though.

I would love this option. I have such a hard time seeing the red in a lot of places.

Before ESO, I played WildStar. It has the option to pick color sets based on different types of colorblindness as well as the option to set the colors to anything you would like via a color wheel. Something like this in ESO would not only help people like myself who already play, but allow others to enjoy the game much more.
