Game Sponsored Voice Chat or Not? What do we really want.

My experience it is more of a pain than it's worth having it part of the game. Often part of low budget games such as Neverwinter. many players that tend to use the in game voip have no concern for others and talk worthless and anoying junk.

Additionally it will possibly conflict with my TS and require even more keybindings.

Additionally, many okay on minimal machines and this is just another tool glueing resources. Turning it off doesn't mean the data isn't being received and processed.

Just a waste of resources to program something most players do not want and will turn off. If you put with me and want to walk with me I will provide myTS info.

Just say no. Not needed at all.

    Yes.

I am tired of three (used to be 4) different VOIP clients installed. I don't like having to switch between them because one group uses TeamSpeak and the other uses Discord.

ZOS should just work with one (1) of the several VOIP companies and integrate their tech into the game client.

Zos will not work with other companies and lease their technology. It would then need to be a sub only option because of the costs to lease the technology. Not going to happen. It's a good thing.

Since I'm assuming you're talking about PC, we can use teamspeak for free already. There's no need for us to burden ZOS's servers with in-game voice chat, which can actually be both inconvenient to use and annoying. Teamspeak, ventrilo, and the myriad other VoIP services/programs available on the PC are way better than anything ZOS can design. No offense to ZOS intended since these companies/programs are devoted to a singular narrow purpose, which they serve well. The sound quality is excellent, as well as the local and global permissions customizations and fine tuning available.

Why would you want to settle?

Neither of the choices reflect how I feel about it. We have Area VOIP and Guild VOIP on console already. I know people love to complain about text chat. But I dont think theyve ever had to experience hearing the things that are written into text chat every time you zone in.

Because setting this up for pug groups is a pain. I would use it for guilds, but in a random pug, you will find people with different programs or none at all. Anyone that doesn't want it can disable it (it can even be disabled by default).

It is an option that at this point should be built into most mmo games by now. Sure Discord, Mumble, and others are solid choices for clans and established groups. However having an option for PUGs to just run with and go would be helpful. Just give it the obligatory ingame options for group and world volumes as well as a disable feature for those who choose not to participate. But seriously, it's 2016.....this should be a automatic feature in games like a friends list, mailing system, and trading system.

I don't now what you mean by "sponsored" voice chat but I would like to see it. Constantly switching between your voice chat program and ESO is a pain and I would like to see something like distance-based voice chat. (not to be confused with area-based voice chat) This means that only players that stand next to you or are very close to you can actually hear you. (and of course, you can hear them) This means that when someone is on the other side of the map you won't be able to speak to him/her.

This adds even more immersion. I also hear people complaining that it will ruin ESO, but why would it when ZOS would just add a simple on-off switch for voice chat?

Count me down for a reserved "yes"...

I'd love to have an in-game group voice chat in addition to the chatbox.
I'd hate to have an area voice chat option.

I dislike having to mess with third-party chat stuff like TS or RC, so I don't use those... yet if any group in the game got their own voice-ing, that would add a good deal to the PC experience and get me to dust off my old headset...
However, I really would not want to hear people say what they sometimes type in zone chat... and I definitely prefer my typed chat for guild chat...

There is absolutely ZERO reason anyone should expect games to include voip. At that in game voip is EXTREEMLY annoying. I remember having to mute many idiots in Neverwinter. It's a great idea for 2nd tier games like Neverwinter but games like SWTOR and ESO will put their efforts into more important aspects of the game.

I already have it on Console and Ive experienced it in other MMOs on PC. Its really not as great as you might think it is. Its almost always someone thats being obnoxious, unaware that their wife/children/dogs can be heard through the mic, someone being verbally abusive to people their with, having conversations with others there with them.

Now ZOS has finally introduced the ability to opt out of VOIP but for anyone first joining the game and have no clue whats going on. That might be a problem.

Agree. Have seen it in second tier games. The voip works fine. The players are annoying. They have zero consideration for others and lack etiquette. It is no wonder they're not in a guild that has TS or mumble.

Think about the last game you played that had built-in voice chat.
Now remember how many people you had to mute.
Now multiply that by the 100s of people you'll encounter in any typical zone.

If you haven't played a game with built in voice chat, think about zone chat in the starter zones.
Now imagine all those people talking with voice instead of typing...

    Yeah...

You do not want this as much as you think you do.

Those who do enjoy coordinating play or hanging out with friends in voice chat all have preferred VoIP software already (Teamspeak, Mumble, Ventrilo, Discord). Everyone seems to have their pet voice chat and would likely prefer it to ESO's option anyway. Furthermore, you have to actually give someone your server info and then you can kick them if they try trolling. The same cannot be said of a standard ESO server side voice option.

So ZOS has little to gain from the extreme minority of people who think this would be a good idea and really a lot to lose in terms of wasted resources on a feature most will turn off and some will despise.

It is known that pc players use TS.

Besides, knowing ZOS, the changes would make their server even more laggy and unstable.
