Game Sponsored Voice Chat or Not? What do we really want.

They decided not to give us the option of game sponsored voice chat. We already know their reasons but what do you really think? Is working to make it happen not worth the time and better spent Elsweyr? Or maybe on something else?

P.S. Yes I spelled it like that on purpose.

I'm not sure I understand the question, is this a platform-specific problem?

I am on PC and use Teamspeak when I need voice communication with other players, I don't see the need for anything else.

Sure, it'd be great if there was an in-game VoIP option. But I'd give priority to a dueling system, battlegrounds, Imperial City improvements and mitigating lag.

It works great for consoles but it's not flawless but I understand the request as I like it more than text chat on any platform.

^ pretty much, there are plenty of options for PC players such as TS, I don't understand why anyone would want or need it incorporated into the base game. I certainly don't need or want to hear every person in the zone or area I am in (please don't subject me to zone chat in that way, I have it turned off most of the time!), I just want to use voice chat for co-ordination in dungeons, or on guild events - and TS works perfectly for that.

If they wanted to add integrated voice chat for party and possibly guild which are toggleable, I'd be fine with that. Always on zone and area voice chat? No, I have no interest in that at all.

Richard said at one of the recent panels that this is not on the cards for the PC because there are already good options out there for people.

There are plenty of public Mumble and TeamSpeak servers for PC players to use.

If a player isn't willing to go and use Mumble/TS then I doubt they'll care about using an in game option.

Not sure what "sponsored" means in this context, but as someone who played LOTRO, a game with built-in voice chat, I can only hope they'll add one into ESO at one point as well! Even though we used Vent in our guild, the built-in voice was great for pugs!

I am on PC and I DO NOT WANT THIS. I have a frequency sensitivity - and it's honestly a disability most days. I can hear even cell phones charge when they are plugged in. The sound of a mosquito is enough to keep me up all night. The last thing I want is overstimulation of people being rude: blaring music, eating chips, not wearing a decent headset, etc. I don't even Teamspeak for this reason. I only have the bravery of a chicken nugget because of this.

When I Skype with my boyfriend, I can hear all the background noises through doors, walls, and stairs. He can go on a tirade about how I can hear every little minute sound.

I do not want sponsored chat because then guilds and groups will expect that of me, and because people are inconsiderate of such disabilities, I will be in constant pain if I decide to join a group.

For heavens sake, please no.

I just like the voice acting. The audio is crisp and clear, no irritating background noises. Introducing chat into it would break my immersion and ruin the small respite I have to get away from irritating sounds.

Some people have an active guild or often play in organized groups with people using TS, Discord or similar service.

Quite a lot play solo however, or have guilds that are no longer active and almost never use voice chat. In PVP at least, not everyone is looking for that large group kind of experience. Would be nice if you could communicate some important info with others on your faction nearby without trying to type something in the middle of battle.

Priority is obviously improved performance in Cyrodiil, so I would not be in favor of any service that might result in lag issues. From videos I've seen of console gameplay, it looks like PVP is quite a different experience when everyone can communicate easily.

I hate VC, always have, completely ruins the feel of the game when that cute little elf with the large assets turns out to be a 40 year old trucker from Moss Side.

I started ESO on console and I hated it. So I bought the game on PC because VC was so horrible on console. On console, as you run through a populated area you would get annoying stuff like this all the time.

It wouldn't be MANDATORY, it would be an option. TS is great if you are in a guild or with friends that already have it set up, but join a pug group in Cyrodiil, a trial, or a group dungeon, and you'll spend way too much time setting it up, assuming everyone even has the same program (Teamspeak, Mumble, etc). It can be off by default, and you can set it on for group or maybe even anyone in shouting distance. Zone would be too much.

I think it would be nice if there was an optional in game chat system for when we are grouped, and only grouped. Just last night we were setting up a couple of groups for dungeon night, and not everyone had their Discord set up, some had Teamspeak which our guild does not use anymore. It would have been nice to have something built into the game for grouping.

For everything else, zone, say, whisper etc, text chat and of course text for group for those who prefer that.

I can not use voice chat -- listen or talk. Some people will kick you out of content if one can not use voice chat. It is best to leave it out for that reason, one less aspect for people to bully about.

How about people who are deaf? How about people who have a speech problem and can not use a phone very well? Text chat works just fine and voice chat is NOT an end all like some like to think.

No one said you HAD to use it. Text chat works fine in trials and group dungeons when under fire? No, it doesn't.

No.

Doesn't have a purpose on PC, no. It would be a pretty significant investiture for development and servers, and with basically zero benefit since gamers use stuff like Ventrilo and Teamspeak already. I know some people like the social aspect or just randomly chatting with others in game, but you can just ask to join a zone TS or something you know. ;-)

I am tired of three (used to be 4) different VOIP clients installed. I don't like having to switch between them because one group uses TeamSpeak and the other uses Discord.

ZOS should just work with one (1) of the several VOIP companies and integrate their tech into the game client.

I play on ps4 and haven't turned voice chat on in so long, for the reasons you mention, I almost forgot it existed. I don't miss it at all.

That's the point, just turn voice chat off. Let the ones that want it not have to jump through the "what program are you running" hoop for every pug dungeon.
