Hmm, ok after reading some of these posts again, does the PC pop alerts in the chat window when people log in? I play on Xbox and we do get alerts like that unless that person is on our Xbox live friends list. The only way for us to know if In game friends and Guildies are online is to check the roster.

Yes, on PC we get alerts when someone logs in thats on our friend list. This is not a issue on consoles, i think, since both ps4 and xbone now have 'appear offline' so you wont show up on the 'live' network on the respective console

What is the reason you get booted after a short period of inactivity anyways? I mean back in the Day in EQ1, when they brought out traders, you "Had to" stay logged on so for other players to buy your junk, I remember being logged in for days straight at times, so it can be done.

i find it annoying that after like 10 mins you get booted if your not doing anything, seriously they need to change it to like an hour min.

So idle players don't take up server resources. And why is this posted here?

The best workaround is to go i to offline/invisible mode before you log off. Next time you log in, it will still be enabled and people won't see the message saying that you have logged in.

I personally always mark myself offline immediately before quitting the game at the end of a session in case I'll just be in quickly for writs or feeding my horse then next time I log in. I do agree with ettenmoor that it would be nice to just be able to select to log in as invisible when you want to rather than having to select the toggle every time you log off to keep that option available.

i think the OP means to login as 'appear offline' not 'offline mode' which is a DRM issue for mmo's i think

to log in and not show up as having logged in to your friends would be nice when you dont want to speak to anyone, or not get their hopes up since you wont be online long, like feeding horses, or crafting writs

its called OFFLINE mode and its already in eSO, nobody cant whisper you, also friends ill not get notification if you logged on
i has been told doen times
really people its an easy option already in the game since 2014
why you asking for some simple things without checking if they exist first?

The idea is not strictly 100% stupid. There are a few services that work offline and synchronizes with live when you go online again.

Of course, a lot of stuff wouldn't work, like hirelings, dungeons, guild traders. But small stuff like gathering reagents, do writs, train horses... That wouldn't be a big deal, I guess.

Hey is asking for it to be outside of the game so that he doesn't have to enable it once he logs in...

not sure if sarcastic....but make yourself 'offline' before you log off. Next time you log in, you are in 'offline' mode and no one will know that you're online. Good for people log-in and log-off consecutively between multiple alts

Is this something that can be looked at? Basically, have an option on the Character Select screen to log in as "Offline".

    agree I would want this.

@Qyrk thank you for the advice, but I already know that. I just sometimes forget to go in offline mode, and then I get a load of whispers upon login ...

That's not ESO exclusive though, it's an industry standard now. I also played games where you had to put a stall and be online to sell your ***. Since a lot of MMOs have this inactivity stuff must represent a performance increase.

Even if they log in in online mode, we don't get alerts to it unless they are on our Xbox or ps4 friends list. Even if they are on our in game friends list. Maybe it has to do with the lack of a chat window.

If you log out in "offline mode", you will still be in "offline" when you log back in. I use this a lot when I'm playing in "ghost mode", lol, which a lot of GM's I know do.
