My Fat Nord Gets Abused

My main character is a Nord. A fat Nord that goes by the name of Alphonse Gabriel Capone. This is him:

Nearly everyday someone will make a comment along the lines of "omg you so funny you so fat" or "You'd look badass if you weren't such a ***" and " You're disgusting". I don't mind. I think it's hilarious. I was wondering if anyone else has received comments about their fat characters.

I cannot see why people think this would look disgusting. He has a mead belly, so what, not everyone has to be athletic.

I have an overweight female Orc templar that gets a lot of abuse. It's an interesting social experiment to see how people treat her. They say the things out loud that they probably whisper and snicker about in real life.

In second life I found that people feel insulted by fat or disabled avatars. Their reasoning is, that it is disgusting to be that in a game as well, where it could be easily avoided. Some region owners even ban such avatars from their region, because they see that as a grief attempt to disturb other guests and make them feel uncomfortable. Tolerance is in low supply nowadays.

Social experiment indeed. Try creating a fat trans character (some make-up helps) on console, where all the kiddies hang out. Parade him around in a female costume of some kind and wait for the teen/20-something boys whose egos and sexual orientation is so fragile, even seeing someone different in a virtual environment makes them nervous enough to immediately defend themselves with vicious comments before they return to their homoerotic "straight" conversations about teabagging.

Buy the grahtwood tree climbers outfit (or any other outfit that shows some skin) and cast defense posture. Now you are a Fat Wet Nord.

I get whispers aplenty for running around like that. It is the ultimate PvP taunt--everyone want to cleanse the world of the FWN.

I ran around with my male Altmer sorc in that outfit, and got lots of snide comments. Closest thing to a kilt I could find.

Its interesting that most of the heavy set characters are made to look ugly as well. I have seen quite a few large orc females but, I cant recall ever seeing a large female high elf.

I love this kind of experiments! But it sadens me that so many is "disgusted" by an avatars look and shape. Some make avatars that resemble them in RL and let's say we come in all colours and shapes.

Last Friday we ended up grinding a bit in Old Orsinium and we all put on our dresses for the occasion.... I felt beutiful despite I'm a big hairy male

I don't think my large orc female is ugly. She has a nice hairstyle, dresses well, and I don't think the tusks look bad at all.

My crafter is an older, fat, heavily scarred male Imperial and he gets a comments every so often. My favourite was simply "Dude, you look f***ed".

It doesn't bother me though because that's exactly the idea. I wanted a character who would be a crafter 1st, adventurer 2nd and I like all my characters to have a backstory. For this one my choices seemed to be young trainee crafter with delusions of grandeur or retired adventurer who switched to crafting and the second seemed by far the most interesting. Of course he's not been very successful at the retirement thing, because getting murdered isn't something you can just let go.

I much prefer it when people comment on his name though - Sagittam Ad Genu, or translated from Latin: Arrow To The Knee. (I thought a tired old joke seemed appropriate for a tied old adventurer.) But I don't think there's many Latin speakers playing ESO (myself included, I had to use a dictionary), more than the none I expected however.

That is more a problem of the character creation tool - I tried to make my female characters so, that they do not look like they would suffer from anorexia, but this is quite hard to do. Using the same slider positions on a male character, that character turns out to be fat and bulky, but on a female altmer the same settings are hardly exceeding "slender".

Yeah its actually crazy how many people have to comment on it when they see you :D When we do dungeons or when I'm just walking past you in Riften someone has to say something like "omg why are you so fat" It's pretty funny. I've always said though that it's kind of a good thing, as it proves you have a unique and interesting character that people notice.

Maybe that is intentional, that race specific, you cannot set sliders outside a range, which is meant for this race. Altmer are supposed to be taller with a slender look to them - and maybe that is why you cannot really make them fat.

Oh I know why... Big guy in a big armor, by the name of Alphonse... Pretty straightforward for some...
I am the very model of a scientist Salarian, I've studied species Turian, Asari, and Batarian.
I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology).

I have a dark skinned Redguard female, which has an "african" look to her. I was curious about if people will comment on this. They don't, but something else is very strange with it - it is like I would be invisible to them. No one is talking to her or is approaching her. Totally different experience than with my light and fair skinned other female characters.

A friend of mine saw me at first in my Redguard avatar. He did not mention anything about my appearance. But next time, when he saw me as a fair skinned Breton, his comment was "finally I can see your face" - that was funny, but strange as well.

Edit: had to correct the race, it was a Breton, not a Bosmer.

You'd think with the pushback on fat shaming, people would leave it alone. We're so preoccupied with perfection in games, we somehow get insulted when a character is a realistic body shape.

Also, fat isn't something you are; it's just something you have. You are not defined by something you have when you can also lose it.

I make characters of all shapes and sizes for a reason: Heroes don't have a 'look' in reality, and I'm not so sure its good to have heroes have a beautiful look in fantasy. I like my ugly scarred chubby orc Templar for that reason.
