Open Letter to ZOS about Riding Skills Drudge

OP. You purposely choose to avoid talking about the riding lessons in the crown shop. They are there for the very reason you started this thread.

You cannot start a conversation and specifically place off limits the obvious solution Sos has provided. Any other solution is not going to happen for the same obvious reasons. Zos is here to make real money.

Next? Happy to bring this conversation to conclusion.

The reason I didn't bring microtransactions into the discussion is because it's a 'slippery slope' type of discussion. It opens a whole can of worms about what is or is not legitimate to charge for microtransactions. I think it's obvious where I stand on riding skills being tied to microtransactions, so why would I want to keep talking about it? That would be beating a dead horse (ba-dum!)

Some advice: I would be careful calling microtransactions a "solution" for an in-game mechanic. That's an even more slippery slope.

So why didn't you make a thread about how the Crown Store Riding Lessons is an inadequate solution to the whole Riding Lesson "problem" that you (but not everyone) perceives?[/quote]

I don't see the crown store as a "solution." Why would I argue that it is? Struggling to see your point.

You don't see it as a solution but @ZOS does. As long as they see it as the solution, which is a moneymaker for them, it will stay their solution whether you think it a slippery slope or not.

I think it would be reasonable to have crown store riding lessons apply on an account level. I know that's the only way I would ever consider buying them. For individual characters... I have 2 alts that I log in every day just to level riding skill so that one day when I want to play them they will be ready.

Agreed. The 20hr lock is the most awful system I have ever come across. 150 days to max out ONE characters horse IF you log on every 20hours. That's ludicrous.

This is one of the main reasons why the two level 12ish alts I have do not get touched. I cannot bother with such a primitive and cash shop grabbing system.

I'm the same way with alts. I think up a cool build I want to play and then they just sit there because I really dislike having to do the riding skills all over again.

I'm sure there are a lot of us out there.

Past the horrendous horse system then I think about all the same skyshards I need to go click on in every zone and delve for an alt.

And past that, the grind of pointless Cadwell with an alt.

Not a very alt friendly game.

AHHAHAHHAHA what MMO is not more ALT friendly than this game? by far this is the most alt friendly game i have stumbled upon....
*** buy something from the cash shop- usable usable by all your alts
*** All guilds shared over all toons- no need to rejoin - find new ones with every alt you make
**** And the biggest most obvious reason this is the most easily accessible mmo for toons
    - almost too easy -
is the fact that in a month or two any progression in this game is account bound - create a level one alt and
WOW a new alt that is just as strong as the best character on your roster, no need to doooo all that content again.
so they left the books and skyshards- we cant have it too easy now can we.........

sure the mount thing is a pain in the arse - was a reasonable implement at launch- now its a hindrance ...
but to call this game an alt friendly game???? take a step back and smell the roses

This would directly harm my personal enjoyment of ESO. I have purposefully not maxed out all of my riding skills on my main and alts. I like that they play a little differently.

I don't WANT all of my characters to be the same... same CPs... Same Costumes available... Same Mounts available. At least with riding skills I can make them feel a little different when riding around.

    #StopTheHomogony

Now... I'm not one to say MY play style is more important than YOUR play style, I could get behind a Crown Store item that is only purchasable by players who have maxed out their riding skills on one character. This item would automatically raise all the riding skills of all your existing characters to max. Maybe it would even apply to new characters too.

I'd be more than happy with that solution... I just don't want ZOS to impose your play preferences on all of us. They've done enough of that already.

I agree entirely. I play every one of my characters as if he or she is my main. Indeed, I don't actually have a main. I hate the fact that they all get another character's dye unlocks and champion points, I certainly don't want them getting another character's skills or achievements.

How about bringing over an idea from the single player ES: your mount improves with use. Your riding skills and the mount itself gets fast and stronger. Character skill is character only. Mount skills account wide for that mount.

It takes time to train a horse. You can't just feed it more until it runs faster - it has to develop strength and stamina over time.

If that were the case, I would just drag my bloated overweight carcass to the gym this afternoon and be ripped by supper time. It ain't gonna work like that.

I take it you sit in an inn all day IC... RPers are not the core of a game and I say this as an RPer who also plays. In a world where I can heal and throw balls of fire, why can't I use magic to empower a mount?

Here is what I did. I created all my alts around the same time. I played on my main but always upgraded my mounts on all alts when I was playing, which has been every day for over a year. I've been able to max out my main and am close to doing the same on 3 other alts. So when I do go back to my lower level alts they have a good amount a riding skill in the bank so to speak.

Making alts and leveling in pvp, undaunted, gathering achievements again is all so tedious, it's time to change the riding system.

Taking 120 days to level the characters horse to max made sense from a launch perspective, but now for PC it's been long enough this could use a change. Allow players the ability to obtain these at a faster rate for a better quality of life.

I'm genuinely surprised at the amount of people in disagreement with the OP.. MMO players who want more grinding? shocking...
    Anywho...

I'd be exceedingly happy with account-wide horse upgrades. Or at the very least, a one-time purchase with gold to upgrade all mount stats to match any character on your account's highest (so presumably 60/60/60 from your main).
Even if it cost the same 45,000, or even more.. as long as I could pay the gold and get the account-wide benefit.

But then, unlike every other MMO where mount speed upgrades come with certain specific levels instead of this mess, ZOS sells upgrades for £££, so this is extremely unlikely something they will implement.
Mhm, maybe if it was an option for ESO+ members, one-time purchase for full upgrade (gold, not £). and it matches your highest upgrade, so if you don't already have a 60/60/60, you don't get the full benefit. You still have to grind at least one character. and still have the option to grind the rest.

I only have 2 characters with full and very nearly fully upgraded mount, the other 6 alts I have I won't even touch because I can't be dealing with slow mounts. And I'd be happy if I knew at level 25/50/V6 the stats get upgraded, so I just have to level normally.. but visiting stables every day, forget about it.

I recently came back to the game and I thought the mount upgrades were account-wide and I was close to buying the upgrades from the store. I'm glad I asked in chat before I wasted the tokens, definitely not worth it since I'm an alt fanatic and don't stick with one character.

That would work too but the reason why I like the idea of shared riding skills is not only will it help my newer characters but I can do my daily training on 1 character for all of them instead of having to login and out of 8 different characters to train.

I second this. Just like you learn the skills again, you also learn ti ride. So no, every player should have 0 0 0 horse, as of now.

But by that logic, no new alt should have access to CP's until they are level 50 at least. So am I correct in assuming you are against CP's for alts?

There should be an alternative that you can spend double on the 2nd point that day, *4 on the third point that day, *8 on the fourth, and so on.

So you could raise each of your riding skill up to 3 times per day, but it would cost you 250 + 500 + 1,000 + 2,000 + 4,000 + 8,000 = 15,750 per day per character and you could reach max in 20 days.

If ZOS is averse to changing how riding skills operate but the player base is passionate enough about requesting a change, then this is an idea that seems like a great middle ground to start with. At least it's something, and we'd be meeting ZOS "halfway."

I try to do the same. The really painful part is when I come up with an entirely new character/class idea that I haven't tried before. Then it starts all over again.
