I'm still trying to grasp the removal of Vet ranks, and the CP system. Just for giggles, I logged in on what would have been a Vet 1 on live. I've automatically been bumped to the equivalent of a V 16, and out-leveled a bunch of content. I still have to do the content if I want the skill points from those areas, but I assume the XP will be minimal. I also now am able to use top tier crafting materials (assuming skill or crafted by my main), so now have to farm those materials for multiple lower vet characters that will be bumped up, bypassing a bunch of now worthless materials. Sure, great for bank space, but all still very confusing. Yes, I know I don't "have" to use the top materials, but why keep making new armor every few "levels" based on area content? Easier to make top stuff, and be done with it, even though I'll still have to run around those "low" Silver areas. My poor brain just wants to 'splode :(

For new characters achieving level 50, they will still have to go through the process of obtaining champion points. "you" would be crafting lower level gear for those players.

Since you have already gone through that once on a single charqacter, all of your alternate characters that avhieve level 50 can now join a similar playing field as your first toon. Barring skill leveling and such.

I get that, but it still leaves a lot of worthless materials and poor XP when I run the Silver areas to get skill points. If those areas were battle-leveled like Wrothgar and such, it wouldn't be so bad. As it stands, it's now nothing more than a skill point grind. I thought that grind was what they were trying to avoid? It kinda seems to have made it worse.

Anything can be a grind if you aren't having fun. The grind removed was the steep slope of veteran ranks, which had already been reduced a few times before being removed. It was replaced by the longer but gentler slope of champion rank grind. This is just replacing one slope of vertical progression that felt slow with another that feels faster.

If you are only going to those zones to get skill points, then could seem like a grind whatever your level. If you enjoy the story, less so. It might be nice to have some challenge to the fights, but, those who only want to burn through those zones as quickly as possible will like it that easy as it takes less time to "grind" through them. Any change they make will satisfy some and disappoint others.

Keep in the mind that DLC zones like Wrothgar aren't "battle-leveled", they are all a weak-tea version of VR16/C160. It is players who are battle-leveled up to that. They would have to make all Cadwell zones whatever the gear-cap is at a particular moment, 160, 200, 440, etc, in order to have players of all champion ranks get good fights and xp. Right now it would be 160. Later it would be higher.

Whether or not they do that would depend on what the purpose of Cadwell's zones is supposed to be. If it's just to see more places and have more quests, it would make sense to make them all at the same challenge level as DLC zones. If it's to keep a sense of getting stronger, so that like 1-50 the zones in Cadwell get progressively harder, it wouldn't make sense to do this and they would be better off staying as they are. Only ZOS knows for sure what they want the purpose to be.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, some of us had discussed leveling players *down* sometimes as well as up, so that if a zone is level 31-37, and you were over that, you would be scaled down to match. Maybe to level 40, so that you can still over-level content that is hard for you but won't be blasting through everything while being bored or annoying low level players. The same can be done for champion rank zones as well. You are at champion rank 160, but in a champion rank 40 zone you would be leveled down to champion rank 60 or 70. This wouldn't work though, because too many players would rage that they had been unfairly nerfed. A solution that would be to be asked by the system when you enter such a zone if you want to scale, but that would ruin some player's immersion. You could check a toggle a setting for whether or not you wanted to be so scaled but then it's not fair that some can avoid or it's too much effort to hit the toggle

I was thinking along a similar line...

I have a lot of good V1 - V14 set pieces that I was keeping around for when an Character gets to those levels, but now that I will be skipping those levels I might as well deconstruct and vendor them and just keep max level gear.

Its sad, since all those Morag Tong pieces were worth a lot back in the day...

yeah that's why I was hoping they might convert it like this...
CR 1-160 item, has base stats and set bonuses that go up from CR1 to CR160, but anyone at level 50 can equip it.
CR 160-320 item, same deal but must be CR160 to equip.
    CR 320-480 item, same deal.

Like the CR system itself, the set values would creep up slowly, but with a decent difference (but not insanely OP) between the start and end of the range.

I just went in, re-geared the "vet1" and went to Auridon (first silver area). Got NO XP at all for killing. They have rendered those areas worthless :(

To give a bit more from my point of view...

With no reason except the skill points to be there, I'll just use a wiki to find the quests that give skill points, rush the quests and be done. No sense of accomplishment, no reachable goal to attain, no revisiting a favorite story. No reason to even have an alt, so no reason to get extra character slots. The fun has been sucked out of it for me :(

It's a nice concept, but I doubt they will do it. It's been suggested before.

I hope so. Without it there isn't much point in playing anything but my main. The few mobs I went after were so easy it wasn't funny. And I'm not set up special, I just do whatever and go with it...No special DPS builds or anything.
