Forums are mostly just the loudest kids. And being the loudest does not make them the most informed or mean what they have to say is anything worth while.

Nope, but I would argue it represents the entire playerbase that is passionate about the game and the larger community.

The forums represent the whiniest and least mature members of the pve, pvp and rp community. Most people, myself included have largely given up on the forums here for that reason. People in game are largely much more helpful and willing to see the opinions of others even if they don't agree. The forums are where all the "my way is the only way" people are herded. It's pretty sad in many ways....

A very tiny percentage. Probably more players in Mournhold on a busy day than on the forums in an entire week. They're too busy playing and enjoying the game to worry about the salty peanuts on these forums. Especially the General Discussion section, although the Combat & Character section tends to have some more productive discussion from time to time.

Honestly it's hard to say. I've seen people say that they stay away from the forums like the plague but comment frequently. While I see some frequent names, I do see a lot of new names in nearly every thread. I've also seen people claim only 1% of the player base is active on forums, but we all know how statistics work  Ultimately only ZOS knows.

Only a small portion of the community. I've spoken to a lot of people in game who weren't even aware there is an official forum for the game. Also add in the problem that not everyone receives the invite code for the forum community when they purchase the game, so some of them may never find out that they need to contact support to get the code resent.

I would say that most of views shared on this forum do not represent the the majority of the player base. For example everyone here seems to be ok with them doing a 7+ hour maintenance patch on the last day of the anniversary cake.

Where as in game from about an hour before the servers went down I saw constant wining in zone chat about how it was unfair and inconsiderate. This inspired me to post here on behalf of these players which I now realize was futile :D

I'm constantly surprised at how many people in a game never.. ever.. visit the forums. I have no idea how they play like that personally. I guess they wait for their guildies and friends to let them know what's changing and upcoming in the game? I don't know.. I couldn't do that. I have always used the forums on any game I've played. I have a "need to know what's up" obsession.

    Yes.

In fact, it represents the entire internet.

    This one forum.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I read an article a year or so ago, most games only about 20% of the total player base posts on the forums after account creation, don't know if that holds true for every game, but I doubt 50% of the players post on the forums, I know at lease 5 people in my guild that does not post, and rarely even reads the forums.

No! The vast majority have never even been on the website, let alone the forums. There are a large number of players that do not even know there ARE forums or news announcements or patch notes.

    Cambridge dictionary:
    "represent verb (ACT FOR)
C2 [T] to speak, act, or be present officially for another person or people"

    Represent ???
Never... we were not elected to represent !

    @Kammakazi ,
I think the better question to pose would be:
Are our opinions an indication of what many more players of ESO:TU think.
And that's I guess what your intention is of the question.

    I agree very much with @Ackwalan !

What annoys me most of the loudest posts is, that these post dilute the many meaningful contributions to this Forum, that are of the interest of many players of the ESO:TU, including posts with opinions they probably do share.
