ESO vs The Division

I know... this is an ESO forum, and they are completely different games. And you dont know me and my game preferences.

But i have time to one, and both require a lot of time, and have a lot of expansions to come.

So what to invest my time?

Anyone knows both games?
How many expansions do you think eso will have in the future? (i know only about dark b.)
Whats the appealing of having a endgame character and keep playing for months/years?

Whats else can you advocate towards eso, or division?

I dont have division, but faced the same choice when it was released. Was a game i was really looking forward to but got hooked on to eso while i waited.

I chose eso, and havent regretted it!

From what i understand eso releases dlc every quarter and this will carry on for the foreseable!

The division is fun if you have people to play with. I found myself coming back to ESO within a week though. I just can't abandon this game.

So you are a solo player in ESO?
Cuz i am a solo player too and i find division a little boring besides the loot grind.

How can you compare TD with ESO? Especially the game development. TD is not a real mmo its gonna release 3 expansions (if you can call em that, a costume is an expansion nowadays) and that's it!

TD is a good game but its nowhere near as ambitious or devoted as a real mmo.

I solo when questing but I play a lot of group content in ESO. I don't have very many people to play with in the Division so I got pretty bored of running around by myself.

Yes, i think eso group finder had a great fix to overcome solo issues we had a year ago.

Well since I have not played The Division all I will say is PVE-wise ESO presents a lot of group optional opportunities. You could be doing your solo thing and then just happen into a person doing the same mission or the same dungeon. You CAN group with them if you want or you can just head in the same general direction an make things easier for each other. OR you could just keep going solo.

This is especially the case with the public dungeons. Many times I have cleared them by going into the instance solo and then just running into 2 other people doing the same thing. Running with them allowed me to clear the main objectives, all bosses AND the group challenge. Afterwards you could send them friend request or just go your separate ways. That is what I mainly love about ESO PVE.

You don't have to be a video game monogamist. You can like different games for different reasons, especially games in different genres, settings, and play modes.

In fact, a rotation of various types of games is probably more healthful than being obsessed with just one.

I considered buying the Division as it looked like the kind of game I'd really enjoy but after seeing an NPC in a tracksuit absorb 1.5 mags from an autorifle: I decided against it.

IMO if you're going to make a game to resemble real life then that needs to follow through somewhat to the gunplay.

Since I've played The Division extensively while waiting to come back to ESO...

The Division is a great MMO/Shooter that you should probably play with friends. All content is pretty easily soloable and the base content will take you around 20-25 hours to consume. Character Customization is lacking in the appearance sense aside from Gear and Eq's. That aside, the bullet play within it is well-done even though it's mainly a cover based shooter. It's not a FPS like most people keep referring to it as, it's a Third-person Shooter with a focus on cover based mechanics, like Gears of War.

Once you've completed the story, as of right now, there's not that much else to do. There are Daily Challenges that you can complete as well as the Challenge Version of each mission (Basically Nightmare Mode) which net you better chances to farm high-end gear and earn creds to spend. You can also live in the DZ and level up your DZ rank as high as you want to (30 is the base required to buy DZ gear from vendors).

There is a free update coming in April that will add end-game raids for players to attempt to complete containing Raid Sets of Gear.

In May there's another content update that will alter how players experience The Dark Zone (PVP) area of The Division.

After those two free updates, there will be 3 DLC that will launch. This is Ubisoft's plan for the entire year for the Division.

If I were you I'd probably invest time in ESO as it already has a plethora of content available where as you'll be playing then waiting, then playing, then waiting for content on The Division Side.

Currently as I know (So I may be wrong) ESO currently has the base game + Imperial City + Orisinium + Thieves Guild + Dark Brotherhood (Coming Soon) + Future releases.

From the last ESO Live they've been maintaining a schedule for DLC at 1 DLC per quarter though that may change as the last couple releases have caused massive amounts of bugs to emerge.

So I'd still side on the side of ESO if you were looking for a game with a massive amount of content to consume. That being said it's still up to you in the long run, I, myself am a RPG guy but I loves me a good shooter hybrid like the Division.

Haha funny you mention BDO. I am rather enjoying it because it reminds me of ultima online. That being said everyone who supposedly quit for BDO in my ESO guild are back and no longer play BDO. The main reason is its too "grindy". Which is what an open world sandbox is. Grinding.

Third person shooter, with loot elements. More like Gears of War and Diablo mixed into a blender.

But, hey, at least it isn't asking $100 for two "convenience" items.

Ya not to derail the thread but I wouldnt pay $10 for those assistants. Is it really that hard to just zone back to a town. Wandering merchants all over the place. I see no need for it.

Well, dragging it back on topic, and into the range of which game, the Division's Season Pass, which gives you access to all the DLC for the game (permanently), has a bunch of costume bits, and grants access to additional events is $40. As far as I know there's no additional microtransactions, so that one's kind of a spend $100 and you're good to go for the year.

Ultimately, it's about which genre appeals more, though.

Not only that, but to get trade routes established in-game you basically have to full time farm contribution points and then invest them, watch the market, set up workers, ship goods, sell at a super farm distance node and this all leaves you with no time to chill and have a good time with friends.

Ya I dont even consider the division a mmorpg. Its not even close to the same as say ESO or even WoW.

Well it's MMO aspect is basically just teaming up with people, the fact you have to farm loot to upgrade, the quests/missions, the instanced PVP.

But yeah, I can see how it's not Massively, Multiplayer...

I mean it is, technically...but it's not what most would refer to as a MMO.

It has all of the same hooks and player drawing mechanics of a MMO, but it's pretty much the same as Destiny. Different types of gameplay mind you, but similar structure.

Either way it's some sort of Hybrid that's becoming more common. I mean, APB is technically the same thing as the Division ++ a few other features.

To be perfectly and brutally honest with you, OP; you're the only one who can answer that question because it's a matter of personal opinion. Taking myself as an example, right now ESO has to see itself beaten by a Harvest Moon clone called Stardew Valley. So telling you what you will find as pros and cons for each game is close to impossible.
