ESO vs The Division

The division is fun if you have people to play with. I found myself coming back to ESO within a week though. I just can't abandon this game.

Me and a few guild mates got TD and all played together, but ended up going back to ESO after like a week as well. TD is a pretty fun game and I would still play it, if I could tear myself from ESO long enough.

It also doesn't help that, from what I understand, The Division's endgame content really isn't there yet. You're expected to grind in the Dark Zone and run... "challenge?" difficulty versions of the original missions. Except those missions make the same mistake as Fallout 4, and just ramp up enemy hitpoints, and outgoing damage, instead of really changing things up. On top of that, they pay out with a guaranteed gold item, except you basically need gold items to run challenge missions anyway.

Though, if I've derped that one up, someone else will need to correct me.

If you go with the Division then I hope you have a group of friends that you know will play with you. I have both games and have hit endgame in both games (vr16 toon in ESO and lv30 in Division). The Division (in my opinion) is one of the worst and generally most boring games to play solo, while ESO is still very fun to play solo.

Even after hitting lv30 in the Division and playing with friends, I got bored of the game very quickly because of its repetitiveness. Both are very grindy in terms of getting the gear you want, but the Division got really old for me very quickly. I came right back to ESO.

Also, I enjoy ESO much more because I tend to really enjoy fantasy inspired worlds, not realistic ones. That's just me though.

Ya I dont even consider the division a mmorpg. Its not even close to the same as say ESO or even WoW.

Well it's MMO aspect is basically just teaming up with people, the fact you have to farm loot to upgrade, the quests/missions, the instanced PVP.

But yeah, I can see how it's not Massively, Multiplayer...

I mean it is, technically...but it's not what most would refer to as a MMO.

It has all of the same hooks and player drawing mechanics of a MMO, but it's pretty much the same as Destiny. Different types of gameplay mind you, but similar structure.

Either way it's some sort of Hybrid that's becoming more common. I mean, APB is technically the same thing as the Division ++ a few other features.

It is a MMO in the sense lots of people play online. What I was saying its not my idea of a mmorpg. It reminds me more of call of duty and battlefield than ESO.

Nah man. You hit the head on the nail. As of right now it's just farm mission, rinse, repeat. Did I get High-end gear? Is it better than my current High-end Gear?

Lol. It's pretty boring right now. Though the free update for End-game Raiding is going to drop in April.
"What is your purpose here, Arisen? If you sought to live you had naught but run and hide yourself away. But then, tell me, child of man... what does it mean to live in truth? To wage war against the passing days? To pray to the unseen for a few breaths more? To raise grand cities from stone, and spawn new life in turn? Mankind has done this, yes, and more. But is the tapestry you weave truly of your own design?"

To be perfectly and brutally honest with you, OP; you're the only one who can answer that question because it's a matter of personal opinion. Taking myself as an example, right now ESO has to see itself beaten by a Harvest Moon clone called Stardew Valley. So telling you what you will find as pros and cons for each game is close to impossible.

To be fair stardew valley is very popular with people who enjoy farmville etc. Its nothing like ESO. Its a very very very casual game meant to appeal to a wide audience. Takes little to no processing power to run either. So comparing it to ESO is apples to oranges.

Right, I did find myself thinking the same thing when I got gear. And with ESO I don't really think about gear as much now that I have my end game stuff. It's more about having fun to me, and I definitely enjoy myself more when I play ESO.

On the contrary; a game is a game and in its fundamental core, it's still suppose to do one thing; entertain. Graphics, processing power and all that comes down to marketing and demographics, that's an entire different area. What I'm talking about is what entertains, and for the OP, it's impossible to say that either ESO or Division will entertain, because what entertains is a matter of personal opinion.

I could say that any game entertains, finding that game that entertains others though, that can never be said with any certainty.

Honestly, The Division really reminds me of Hellgate: London. An ARPG with shooter mechanics. That said, Hellgate: London was way more satisfying to play, as I recall.

    Well its simple really.

    ESO has content.

The Division doesn't have much content at all. (For the moment, we'll see in the future.)

Lets see if you're playing the division in 3 months time lol.

Who remembers their friends list when COD came out and who has seen their friends list now?

Yeah. They always come crawling back.

I know... this is an ESO forum, and they are completely different games. And you dont know me and my game preferences.

But i have time to one, and both require a lot of time, and have a lot of expansions to come.

So what to invest my time?

    Anyone knows both games?
How many expansions do you think eso will have in the future? (i know only about dark b.)
Whats the appealing of having a endgame character and keep playing for months/years?

Whats else can you advocate towards eso, or division?

    ESO FOREVER!!

It depends on what you prefer. If you absolutely love the grind, get TD. It has 30 levels then goes to gear based progression similar to Destiny. You will always be hunting new equipment. I found the crafting to be a bit basic, but if you prefer the simplified version it will suit quite well. Also, if you have more than 3 friends, it can be difficult to get into the same game. I play very rarely because my friends are already in groups of 4 when I get on. (And I prefer ESO)
ESO has more complex systems, (IMO) a more robust story, an engaging crafting system, a wider variety of land masses to explore and I feel the PvP area is more exciting (but not really into PvP). If story is your thing, ESO also has a ridiculous amount of lore to explore.
Neither will ever be balanced for PvP.

Division is more like diablo 3. You will chase perfect rolls just to be able to clear content.

ESO has more of a plateau. Once you get "meta" gear, which is mostly crafted or bought in the case of jewelry, there's only the most meticulous of min maxing to improve on.

    SOURCE: I PLAY BOTH.

Ubisoft failed at an alive world from what I've watched, read and seen others post about.

The same four thug types constantly attacking you and the same four sentences they all say.

ESO has a much more alive world compared to the Division.

ESO... stay with ESO. The Division has a million exploits right now and some really unfair gameplay because of the many cheaters. ESO is so much better.

We don't have the best history with our Devs but at least they provide a fantastic game. This game still has high hopes!
