I tend to think Eastern MMO's have better commercials.
Case in point:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyHIvDP6pa8
Quick and to the point. No filler live action segments that detract from the game itself.

Do you really find this ad appealing? The content is just multiple character models all performing the same animations: running, riding, grinding, harvesting nodes etc. By Japanese standards of TV advertising, which are usually rather high, this one looks as if the agency phoned it in, relying entirely on the name Final Fantasy.
The ESO TG spot seems silly, but it is more memorable.
Ofcourse they are a thing, just about any mmo or roleplaying game has LARPers. Consider this, even Runescape has its share of LARPers who construct and wear homemade rune armor and dragon scimitars with paper phats... Even back when its graphics where so pixelated it looked like u where playing a lego character.....so....Elder Scrolls LARPers are a thing, huh?
I like how some people are trying to read too much into the commercial... trying to make it out as some sort of really clever meta campaign like @lordrichter
I just don't think these commercials do a great job of highlighting the strengths, atmosphere, or feeling of ESO.

I grabbed a couple of friends and we went up to a study room at the university library and hooked up my Macbook to the television monitor. Then we played the trailer with the volume loud enough to practically rattle the glass in windows.
I loved that trailer. It was well-written, great voice, nicely timed. And it was all gameplay footage

Well, when they made the clip it was still summer in the southern hemnisphere - and the DLC landscape was made with the australian outback in mind, so having an australian actor and maybe film it in australia makes sense in a way.
Edit: and the way in which it is presented is roughly british humor - a persiflage, self-mockery.

Excuse me? Not even close, @Gidorick .You are reading way too much into my comment. I do not think those two people are actually in the game. They are players, outside of the game, pretending to be in the game, but everyone knows that they are not actually in the game.
Not only do I think that this is intended (obviously) but I think that, as part of this, they are playing off of how Elder Scrolls lore works using the very format of the video. This is one way to write a skit to convey information about Thieves Guild (remember, this is a commercial video) by setting the video as an account of one ESO fan playing the DLC. This is the format that Elder Scrolls uses to present lore. If intended, wonderful!
That is not the intent of the videos. These are not technical commercials that outline the facts of the game. They are not selling what happens in the game as much as they are selling how players feel about playing the game. They do it in a fun way, which does capture the essence of the game itself.
It was well written and I love that trailer. Ultimately, the trailer depicted things that were not in the game.
Although, it is nice to see that competitive archery was in TES V:Skyrim, too!

I don't know what's funnier: That the lady in the video says "so you just steal ***" and you don't even really notice, or that someone said the phrase "is a sportive equestrian."
I will henceforth forever reply when asked, "What are you like, bloke," solely with, "Well, I'm a sportive equestrian." That made my day - nay! my week.
