They should have a community contest to create a cheesy commercial! Come on ZOS! Fan made commercial contest!

I just pictured in my head a live action scene from "The Lusty Argonian Maid". Maybe this isn't a great idea.... Lol

While I am sure this is missed by most, what we are watching in this video is Elder Scrolls lore in action. Events in the game presented from the perspective of people in the game. Yeah, it is done in a light manner, but the whole thing reminds me of something one of the NPCs in the game might do, if the technology was available.
I like very much this ESO commercial, it's so simple, clear and cheery. Definitely an opposition to a garbage.
In my opinion ESO is for people with deep level of imagination, who don't need commercials with astounding graphical bells and whistles like in those Asian rubbish vids. If someone don't like The Elder Scrolls lore, won't buy the game after any commercial, no matter the costs. Others will buy because they love it.

point being, it might have worked if the actress is indeed super reknown (like plug in Kate Beckinsale/Kate Upton in there and everyone would have 'got it')
But if you don't (like most I'm guessing) - then the 'campyness' is missed and it just looks bad. Because I have no clue who she is, it just looks like bad acting for something that clearly does have some kind of budget , and it's unclear if it's supposed to be serious or not, again because I can't tell if the actress is purposefuly bad, or if she's just terrible..... (and it is a bit on par with that type of acting some people know of)

I like how some people are trying to read too much into the commercial... trying to make it out as some sort of really clever meta campaign like @lordrichter
And the people who take it as an opportunity to whip out the old "You need to use your imagination, you degenerate creatively void ape" (words added for perceived snark.) response... like @Gargath
and that some people are just unsure of what the message of is supposed to be... like @Spacemonkey
I don't think the commercial is "Meta". The two actors are portraying players in the world, not NPCs. The guy's name is "Pete"... I'm going to go ahead and call him "Pete the Regenerative" since he "grew" back a hand.
To me the commercial misses the mark because it SEEMS intentionally campy. It has a tongue-in-cheek quality that ESO doesn't have. Sure there's humor in ESO, but this is because there is humor in life. ESO is NOT, however, what I would call a campy self-referential game.
But more than that, I feel that the commercials are misrepresenting ESO a bit. Between the two commercials we see:
- Mention of "competitive archery"
- PVP Theft
- Character Dismemberment (lopping off hands)
- Mention of city-specific bounties
- Guards apprehending players instead of killing them
- and... Capes
None of these things are in ESO... and yes, I understand what "creative liberty" means.. and yes, I agree I'm "reading too much into it" and "taking them too seriously".
I just don't think these commercials do a great job of highlighting the strengths, atmosphere, or feeling of ESO.
But that's just me.
Oh and thanks for the laugh @rotaugen454 by exposing your "search patterns" publically. That gave me a pretty good laugh.
There's the original @davidtxrhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYQLhqooh0E
And for comparison... Here is Skyrim's live action trailer:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQtTD5K52xI

Thanks for posting the Skyrim trailer. When I heard Skyrim had done a live action trailer, I wasn't expecting much, but that was pretty freakin awesome.
As to the ESO trailers ... sigh. That's all I've got.

I don't think the commercial is all that deep or intentionally meaningful. The two actors are portraying players in the world, not NPCs. The guy's name is "Pete"... I'm going to go ahead and call him "Pete the Regenerative" since he "grew" back a hand.

But that's just me.I'm sure they're doing a good job of bringing in new players. If the first one didn't, they wouldn't have made a second one! So... yay for them, right?

I agree @IrishGirlGamer ... after watching that Skyrim trailer I got all worked up and was ready to hop back into my old adventuring shoes. It evokes emotions of excitement, awe, and wonder. It actually empowers the viewer while challenging and inviting them into the narrative of Skyrim. It's a true call to adventure.
The ESO commercial tells the viewer that "Eh... there's crap to do... if you want."... It inspires nothing but notions of mediocrity. Not in me anyway.

Then I'm at a loss, cuz it totally doesn't appeal to anyone in a PvP or PvE sense whatsoever.
That video is not appealing to role players at all. What do you see in this video - a modern woman in a silly toy armor takling about the game world as if it would be kind of disney world - this is not any appealing to role players.
