i find female khajiit creepy if they have BIG proportions but if theyre kinda smaller its ok
but i think theyre cool and i love the characters in elder scrolls games

I should try to make a female khajiit with small proportions just like you said, or maybe even a male, looking like a snow leopard

Well, mostly, but I have a male argonian now as well. I find it rather hard though to role play a male character, my female side always comes through.

In other games where I too have the option to choose, I always played female so far. Except for Divinity Original Sin, there I'm rolling a female/male couple.

They play with a female avatar, but they do not role play a female character, but still behave like males. Most argue that they like to look at a female character rather than a male one, when they play. i doubt that a lot of them can put themselves in the role of a woman - well, it is as well hard for me to role play a male character, so I understand this somewhat.

As a general rule yes, sometimes if I suspect some change to the conversations I might try a female char on 4th or 5th play through.

I think that is not that unusual - if you play a khajiit or an Argonian that makes you neither a cat nor a reptile either and you can identify with them quite well. You don't have to be what you play.

Why is it suspect? Some of us like to roleplay, and get into the heads of different characters (including of opposite gender), not play an avatar of ourselves.

With some of them I do play my gender, with some of them I don't.

Some of my characters are girls, some of my characters are boys.

After all, what fun would there be in playing myself, when its so much more enjoyable to play different facets of myself instead?

personally I play mostly males. I am male. However, I know several guys that play female toons because "if I am going to watch someone's ass run across Tamriel I would rather it was a good looking female than a male". OK, I can see their point.....Lol

I'm female and I play both genders.

Playing a male character doesn't bother me any more than playing a khajiit or a skilled archer or whatever else they are that I'm not. To me they're like characters in a book or a movie I'm participating in creating. I get to decide what they look like and how they act but they're not me so it doesn't matter if they resemble me or not. I choose their gender based on what I think suits the character I have in mind, just like all the other options in the character creator.

I think it's partially because I've been playing computer games, including RPGs since I was a little kid in the late 80's and there were so many that didn't have graphics (so you didn't get to choose what your character looked like) or where you couldn't choose your gender/customise your character at all, or when you could 'customising your character' meant picking one of the pre-made portraits to appear on the character sheet, and it was so hard (especially for a little kid who didn't know what words like 'constitution' or 'multiplier' meant) that I had to stick to picking races and genders based on what make the characters better (and figuring that out through trial and error) that I just got used to doing it that way.

But I think it's also because even if I did make a character that looked like me they still wouldn't act like me. We might have some things in common (on my main character I normally pick what I think is right when faced with a moral choice, for example) but if they acted just like me they'd be the ones staying in town selling their goods to the damn fools who go out there and get themselves killed.

So if they're not going to act like me and I'm used to them not looking like me I don't see any reason to limit myself, I'd rather explore all the customisation options the game has to offer.

I find it difficult to immerse myself in games when the characters I'm playing are of the opposite gender. I try to make my characters resemble me as much as possible.

That sounds like a performance problem.

Though, seriously, the results you're getting are far more even than I'd expect. I remember a study back when I was in college, where only roughly 18% of players in online games rolled up characters of the opposite gender.
