But it seems that ZOS is not willing to include new mounts as anything other than crown store purchases. Requests to put the crown store mounts in the in-game world were all but denied and them trying to validate anything other than normal horses in the game world have by and large been ignored (except for books where mounts are already described).BabeestorGor wrote: »Sure, maybe they could add it to the lore. You should look up Direwolves. Take a wild guess what they looked like and how big they were. Direwolves were around during the time when megafauna was the gold standard so they too had to be bigger to compete against other large predators and have the power to bring down far larger prey.
Direwolves have been mentioned in-universe although the information is lacking. You can find them on the list of fauna for Elder Scrolls on the uesp.net.
Theres no telling if they would be utilized as mounts but theres also nothing stating that they havent. Theres also not enough information to say whether theyre big enough or not for a humaniod to use them as a mount. Surely Bosmer and even Goblins are small enough to mount Direwolves.
Personally I think Senche Tigers/Leopards are much more fitting for Bosmer as the creatures are in high numbers through out Valenwood and the close vicinity to Elswyr means there'd be room for some sort of blending of cultures and utilization of tools and beasts of burden/mounts. But I also have no issue with Direwolves being introduced as a more traditional Bosmer mount.
Were Frost Mare's in the lore? Fire Horses? Riding Bears? Zombie mounts? Senche Lionesses roaming everywhere with Orc's on their backs? ESO has done tons of things not in line with lore and it's a poor excuse to try and deny wolf mounts to people who want them. At least wolves would have a better run animation than bears, that shiz is just ugly.
First of all, I don't deny anything. I discuss things. Second, you clearly did not get the humor of my first post.
However since you brought lore into this, we have had demonic possessed horses in this game
http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Shadowmere (also in Oblivion)
We have had bears in the series before. We have had large cats. Senche Lions are part of the Lore. What we have not had are oversized wolves from a different lore be included. (Game of Thrones was it? that was the only reference I could find on Google) Of course ZOS could offer this. It just would not be part of the Lore. That is plain and simple.
It could become part of the lore though. Theres always been new lore and/or changes in lore throughout the series.
Maybe dire wolves are a rare breed, almost hunted to extinction, but still found in 1 place.
But the crown store barely constitutes as 'lore'. There's no context or narrative connected to it, not even an ingame acknowledgment of its existence or products.
Agreed but creatures can be placed in game in a previously unexplored area in a dlc.
Now don't get me wrong, if the dire wolf mount actually appeared in game (preferably tied to a difficult quest chain relating to it with lore book entries to boot) then I would say Dire Wolves would be a nice addition to the game. But I just can't see ZOS doing it that way. They are most likely going to put it in the crown store and leave it at that.

I fear you are right. However to deride a perfectly good idea because you are afraid ZOS won't do it right doesn't seem constructive to me. Not when we will end up with more mounts anyway. Better to suggest something constructive instead eg (shameless plug of own thread) http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/243989/maenlorns-marvelous-menagerie#latest

Tell that to those who are Lore Masters.ESO is based somewhat on the TES series, and there is a massive amount of lore within each of them, and so far not a single mention of Dire Wolves. It's like saying that Unicorns could be introduced into the game.
And yet each game in the series has added new creatures that were in none of the previous games and were not mentioned in the lore prior to their appearance. There have also been creatures like the lizardmen of Arena who made an appearance but have never been seen or heard of since.
And yet each game adds new creatures,...like which new creatures? Are you including every game after Arena too? Daggerfall,Morrowind,Oblivion, and Skyrim? Just curious which new creatures you mean.
Not trying to be snarky.
Yes, every game after Arena (although in Oblivion it was just variations on existing creatures like land dreugh IIRC).
A few examples:
- Daggerfall - Centaur, Dragonling, Dreugh, Gargoyle, Giant, Harpy, Imp, Lamia, Nymph, Spriggan
- Morrowind - Ash Creatures. Kwama, Guar, Alit, Kagouti, Bonewalkers, Bonelords, Netch
- Skyrim - Ash Hopper, Skeever, Chaurus, Hagraven, Ice Wraith, Wisp Mother
Pretty sure ESO has added a few too. Tamriel is a large land, much of it unvisited since Arena, and I wouldn't want the game limited to the 22 monsters from Arena. I think theres still space for a few more undiscovered by the players species.
