Don't blame me if you get caught using it. But fair is fair. No need to hook up any electrical wiring. This program will do the trick just fine if you are willing to take the risk:

See? Every faction has people who are sure lag switches are being used, and they were right. We just never knew how easy it was to set one up.

"A lag switch is a piece of equipment installed on a home network that allows you to insert delays into the flow of local traffic to the Internet. Lag switches are normally used by unscrupulous players wanting to cheat at online video games. Lag switches are unrelated to normal network switches." (http://compnetworking.about.com/od/consumerelectronicsnetworks/f/lag_switches.htm)

In other words, it's a selfish bs thing to do and will get someone perma-banned if they are dumb enough to try it. People can easily search for instructions on how to do it (even that link above gives the basics), some directions even come with hi def videos. People have been accusing members of other factions of building and using such cheats for months now.

My original reply embedded one of those hi-def "how to" videos but that seemed like a forum moderation waiting to happen and maybe even a forum suspension

thank you for explanation. but if I understand it correctly, when someone would have this lag switch on his network, would it not just increase the lag for himself and so harm his game experience? how is the cheating with it done?

and the spoiler in the first post in this thread - eso.exe, I see that runs the game directly, without the launcher. how does doing that relate to a lag switch?

I don't know the details of how or why it would be helpful, only that it is an undying rumor. One version says use the switch to lag it up until help arrives at a trouble spot, but I've heard many versions.

A lag switch as described would not work on this game. One of two things would happen

    1. The player using it would time himself out/desync, he would lag himself out locally, and no one else.
    2. The player using it would hit GCD as soon as he released the switch and get kicked to login for message flood limit.

You can clearly see how the server handles catch-ups for players lagging behind. Whether by connection or by design, it throws them on a loading screen or boots them from the server if the delay is too long. Their toon sits there frozen in place (ever seen the floating horse rider phenomenon outside of a keep wall, where the guy froze while jumping off?)

Point of post - I have said it since the beginning, a mechanical lag switch has never been the cause of lag in cyrodiil.

That hasn't stopped the rumors, though. People feel super-frustrated in PvP that lag keeps getting worse, so for some it must be because devs play for another faction, or because of lag switches, or because ZOS wants to kill PvP, and so on. I've heard each of those multiple times. I guess it gives some people something else to focus their anger on in addition to the PvP dev team.

If done correctly a "lag switch" can also lag out other players that are near (in-game) the person using one.

The reason being that the ESO server side network code still waits for player client responses before broadcasting results to other players.
To ZOS's credit, they have made improvement to their network code since launch but the problem is still there.

In order to render lag switches completely useless, the server has to *never* wait for clients to respond while calculating the scene and sending results to players.
The server needs to have a "prediction" model (as well as the client to a certain extend) otherwise one or more lagging clients can slow down the server processing for everyone else.

If you do a search here, this has been pointed out to ZOS by myself and others since beta ...

If this whole thread is a joke, then nothing.

But if not, then I am thinking that lagging my own network will only lag my game, not the game of the players around me.

To lag also the players around me I would need to use something else, which would work similar to ddos attack, which overloads the megaserver, not just my own network.

Regardless of whether or not this thread is a joke, are you saying that you would want to intentionally lag out other players? Because it sounds like you're interested in figuring out how to do so.
