As far as I see it, dyes are rewards for ACHIEVEMENT, not participation. Earn them. It's actually quite satisfying.

I like the current system. I wish they would add more dyes for more varied things. Achievements are almost pointless without dyes. I don't got nothing to spend my Achievement points on!
Falls-With-Grace ~ Shadowscale (Argonian Night Blade)
Selique Lasra ~ Captain, Smuggler, Swashbuckler (Redguard Templar)
Chases-Comets ~ Shellback Warrior (Argonian Dragon Knight)
Slissix-Kir ~ Swamp Shaman (Argonian Sorcerer)
    Hail Sithis..

I just think they need to fix how dyes are being applied to armor and ensure everything has the 3 slot options and not just the two. Plus costume and weapon dying needs to happen next.
Far too many characters to list any more.

There's a lot of fancy dyes that are really easy to obtain so I dont see a problem with them being tied to achievements.

Actually most of the best, most vibrant ones, are tied to really hard achievements. My personal pet peeve is Legate's Black. It's an insanely long term PvP achievement that I will never have because I don't like to PvP. There really should be a PvE Equivalent. And before anyone claims I'm biased against PvPers and don't want them to have nice things, I really DO believe that there should be both a PvE AND a PvP way to get ALL the dyes.

While a lot of players like both PvE and PvP we all know that MOST players vastly prefer one over the other. And I have long said that all the things available to PvEers should alos be available to PvPers via PvP means.

Well, if they don't want to work for the achievement, they can accept that they can't get the dye.

SMH at posts like this. Why the heck should they make it easier for people to complete their dyes? It is meant to be a differentiator. Can't get Legate's Black? Tough luck. Heck, I can't even get Vigor, which I really need.

Right now dyes are basically the only way how to let stranger know "hey! I completed this cool achievement!" That's why I kinda like they are bound to specific achievements. Not that most ppl ingame care, but still.

But dyes are a bad choice for that. Most people have no idea that your dude running around in a dark black outfit completed one of the hardest to get PvP achievements in the game. There should definitely be something BETTER than dyes associated with Achievements.

The other thing I really don't understand is the stated attitude of some people who clearly want dyes to remain unobtainable to other players just because it makes THEM feel special and superior. This system clearly rewards and encourages some pretty childish and spiteful behavior, which I also don't understand at all.

But the dyes were designed to be exactly that -- ways to show off achievements. That is the role they play.

Is wanting dyes to no longer take effort to obtain less childish than wanting to preserve the current system?

And you guys don't get that it's not an achievement earned by any sort of hard work at at all. That's okay, I get it.

My contention is simply that the dyes are a bad choice for this. Doing it this way was the laziest way ZOS could approach it.

Which leads into my other post. There should really be something far more meaningful and fun than dyes to reward Achievements. There SHOULD be something fun we can do with all those Achievement points. If there was a dye for every singel solitary Achievement I might be able to agree that this was what dyes had been "meant" and "designed" for. But it isn't. Less than half the Achievements give you anything at all, let alone a dye.

I think that dyes are the perfect reward for achievements, actually. They are run, they don't clutter up your inventory and they allow you to customize your character.

You keep saying there should be something more fun and meaningful, but you obviously think dyes are both fun and meaningful, since you want them and realize some of the ones you want are hard to get.

What else would you suggest be used as a reward for achievements? I really don't need more random stuff cluttering up my inventory.

And I still want that green from Sanctum Ophidia. I've recently gotten to PvP more. Maybe I'll get the Legate Black one of these days too.

I think there's a ton of ways they could utilize achievements/achievement points that are better than how they do it now. There's some good discussion on there on my other thread here: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/236276/what-would-you-like-to-be-able-to-get-with-achievements-points#latest

Doing almost any of the things there would make dyes as achioevement rewards obsolete, letting them then come up with a better way for players to acquire dyes.

That said, if they ever do change it, I think all unlocked dyes from the current system would have to remain available for the people who have them.
