Maelstrom's Restoration Staff imbalance

Hello,

Since I got two sharpened resto staffs from the last vMSA weekly I would like to discuss the imbalance between the MSA resto and destro staffs set bonus. Here is a picture of both, so everyone can see it:

8cd7dd-1449665880.jpg

So as everyone can see the Resto staff has a normal spellcrit bonus (like the julianos set) while the destro staff has an increased spellpower bonus (50% more than Torug's, just like the willpower set bonus). Is this intended?

@ZOS_GinaBruno
@ZOS_KaiSchober
@ZOS_RichLambert

Apart from that some suggestions:
The resto staff is made for healing and supporting. The Masters resto staff from vDSA had a great set bonus helping everyone in the group with their stamina management. The vMSA resto staff only helps the healer and that in a pretty limited way (max. 200 additional magicka reg). Why don't you make it usefull for everyone and change the setbonus so that whoever is healed critically by you gets the 400 magicka (a little bit like the spellpower cure set)?
If its to hard to implement, then simply change it to a 4 sec buff to magicka reg (arround 200). Then the code would be the same as the spellpower cure, just with a different buff and a slightly different trigger. This would give healers another tool to support the magicka management of the group, other than running elemental drain or siphon spirit.

If you don't like the suggestions then forget about them, but please fix the set bonus by increasing it by 50%. Otherwise the vMSA resto staff is almost useless.

Thank you for reading.

    completely agree with this, it's probably the most useless MSA weapon at the moment, and really a big disappointment :/

    That magicka it restores is an extremely large amount and can change your build around.
    That Spell Critical it gives is a quite large number if you get a precise weapon you're looking at 75% spell critical with julianos and the maelstrom restoration staff.

    Trust me that staff is a game changer... i would like to see the enchantment changed to you and your allies get magicka but to whoever the Heal over time is on but really that staff right now is really strong how it is

    But still the spellcrit bonus is much worse than the spellpower bonus of the destro staffs.

    You get a spelldmg bonus and additional bonus to light/heavys if your target is effected by a dot, which does around 1k average-dmg per tick (on magicka-DK, pve)...i don't think that's bad.
    I also like the effect of the resto-staff and it's additional critchance :smile:

    the interaction with regenertion still makes it situational (very good for your next msa run, imho, for many other things - not so much because you don't want to use that particular skill. also good if you want to earn AP by spammign rapid into in zerg but that should be fixed and not used to justify a weapon design.).

    in that regard, for most usual templar activities, it is not as bad - but somewhat similar to destro staves and their pathetic WoE: The skill effect is nice but for a skill you just don't use. Destros, however, shine with their strong SD enchant.

    Thus, I think an increased enchant for the spellcrit would really be appropriate so that the restro staff would be worthwhile using also when you don't want to have regeneration on your bar. imho, it's the same for all m-weapons. I use daggers without flurry, a defending 2hander on a pvp stamblade buff-bar, destro without WoE, and so on.

    I'd love to see the crit value raised accordingly. However, the truely broken thing is the shield... (and the 1h is fairly weak, imho)

    One thing to note when comparing the two weapons... If you cast regeneration with the maelstrom resto and then swap weapons, you still gain extra magicka when regeneration crits. However, I don't believe you get the extra damage on wall of elements after you swap weapons

    You lose the crit on the resto and the spell dmg on the destro.
    You keep the staff attack boost on the destro and the magicka restore on the resto.

    Waste of time.

    But for other players PvP might be considered as a waste of time ;). and looking at those maelstrom weapons being gained through PvE I think it's only reasonable that they are useful in (most) PvE.

    I have to agree though that there is no real use for them in PvP unless you're just going for the extra spell damage because you have a spare piece.

    @Gil.Galad
    Have you considered that you cannot get the Destruction staffs in your desired trait (nirnhoned) and maybe that's why the spell dmg bonus is bigger?

    Gonna bump this as I was going to make the exact same analysis as the original post.

    I dislike inconsistencies such as this. By ZoS's own standards of armor set bonuses, the Maelstrom DPS oriented weapons are getting nearly 50% spell/weapon damage from a Vr16 set whereas the Restoration staff is only getting mere equivalency with critical from a Vr16 set. You can argue that the standard critical bonus is better/more valuable than the standard spell/weapon power (and I will disagree), but ZoS has set a standard and I believe the Malestroms weapon should conform to it.
    Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

    Could we please get a quick answer if the lower crit bonus on the Maelstrom Resto Staff (not increased by 50% like the spell power and weapon dmg bonus) is intended or not and if you plan to increase it to bring it on one level with the other maelstrom weapons?

    The only reason you'd use the destro set is if you're running 2PC Kena, 3Pc Willpower and 5PC Julianos and have no better option for a set bonus.

    If you're not running a monster set 2 pc then it's a DPS loss compared to a crafted Nirnhoned Staff.

    One should also note that 189 Spell damage is broken in itself as the rings are 189 spelldamage at PURPLE. At Legendary quality the staves should be over 189.

    Rings are 186 at purple. 189 at gold I believe.

    But the effect of the resto staff is great, the destruction staff effect is really bad.

    Looking at the PvE side (in other words trials) the destruction staff is very strong and every Magicka DPS is hunting for it.

    It's garbage (as I predicted in PTS). When I use mine I get a DPS drop.

    The only reason you'd use the destro set is if you're running 2PC Kena, 3Pc Willpower and 5PC Julianos and have no better option for a set bonus.

    If you're not running a monster set 2 pc then it's a DPS loss compared to a crafted Nirnhoned Staff.

    Its only crap cause WoE is crap. Agreed that if you have a dead slot and ideal trait that it can be better, but nirnhoned should be a possible staff drop.

    The ice staff and WoE might be strong with 5pc Winterborn and 5pc Julianos though, but Jewelry RNG makes that a little hard to try.

    To the original topic at hand, sure the crit % looks underwhelming and only the same as a regular v16 gear, but the other part, the mag regen, is strong. 1 cast literally recovers 2x the cost of the skill, so in a 4man group, keeping Rapid Regen/Mutagen on the group is free magicka-wise, freeing up resources for other skills.

    WoE with Mealstrome-Fire-Staff is definitely NOT weak on a DK. I love it now and would use it, even if i would have no maelstrome-staffs.

    Talking about minmaxing you will run exactly the setup you described.
