But don't take it out on the players that like to purchase this kind of "fluff" by directly insulting those players. Like it or not, it's players like the OP that are providing the primary monetary support for this game. So if you want to keep playing this game, you should instead be saying to them, "Thank you for buying all this crap so I don't have to! I really appreciate that you are willing to pay for this game, and allow it to continue to exist."

This viewpoint is bull****. I do pay for this game. I'm sitting on like 10k crowns that I would happily trade for a functioning game.

It's more like, "why are you guys buying all this crap to enable them to release more crap". As long as you are willing to pay for s*** that has no gameplay value, you will continue to be fed s*** with no gameplay value, and there is no incentive to actually provide you with s*** that has gameplay value.

Your anger is misplaced. It's not the people that are willing to buy fluff items that are causing the problem. It's the players who are NOT willing to pay a sub fee to play an MMO. In reality, most times those are NOT the same people.

I've played an MMO that was sub-based AND had a cash shop for vanity items. I actually still enjoyed paying extra and purchasing the fluff cosmetic crap, on top of paying the normal sub fee, because I liked that stuff. I also liked the game, and didn't want to see it go F2P.

Turns out that the game eventually went F2P anyway, and when it did, they had to start adding P2W stuff to the cash shop. That's when I quit. At least ESO isn't doing that.

Point is, it's not people like the OP that enjoy buying fluff cosmetic items that broke this game. It was the lack of a solid enough base game to be able to retain the sub-based model, combined with today's flighty ADD gamers that aren't willing to pay sub fees anymore. That's what forced ZOS's hand, and now, they HAVE to focus on making more of this fluff crap, because that's the ONLY way they can make $$$ with today's stupid MMO playerbase.

Sure, if they had fixed a lot of the game's problems BEFORE going F2P, they may have been able to string the sub model on a bit longer. But in today's world, going F2P is virtually inevitable, and once the line's been crossed, there's no going back. Blaming the people that are willing to keep supporting the game isn't going to help, and as I said, it's misplaced anger, because they weren't the ones that caused the problem.

First of all I'm not angry I'm disgusted. Secondly, I'm not angry at these people at all. You said I should be thanking them for buying this crap, and I said if anything, I should be questioning why they are buying this crap. You are twisting a quote to create an argument that doesnt exist.
    Fine. It's misplaced "disgust" then.

You said you were "disgusted" by the types of players who enjoy this stuff. Those types of players aren't the ones you should be disgusted by.

I'm disgusted by today's self-entitled players that think that they should be able to get a quality game for free, without shelling out a dime. Those are the players that cause games like this to go F2P, in the hopes that if the publisher makes paying "optional" they'll get more players, and some of them might actually choose to pay, or can be "tricked" into it.

In reality, what actually happens is that the players that would have been willing to pay a sub fee anyway, just end up spending far MORE money than they would have before. So the game is able to support itself by getting as much money as it can from the few people willing to pay, as opposed to getting a small set amount from a larger number of people (who ultimately aren't willing to pay).

You said that you'd prefer they spend their time actually improving the game. I 100% agree. You feel that, because of people like the OP, "there is no incentive to actually provide [us] with [stuff] that has gameplay value." But people like the OP aren't the problem.

Tell me: What could they add to the game, that would have "gameplay value", that they could monetize in the cash shop, that would NOT be P2W? ... DLC? They are doing that. You complain that it's buggy (which it is). But they can't charge for bug fixes. If you think about it, there's nothing else they can do. Now that the game is F2P, they are forced into this.

Is it crappy and disgusting? Absolutely. But the players making threads like this aren't the ones to be disgusted at.

I never said anything of the sort so I stopped reading there. I said that I was disgusted at being lied to and strung along and I said I was disgusted at this business model.

Regardless of what you would like to believe I never meant for this argument to continue into the next page but its twisted comments like these that kept me here.

I will leave with an apology to anyone who might have been offended.

I'm not offended at all, I doubt many of us are. We are just pointing out how aggressive and derogatory you were from comment #1. Perhaps you should just consider the words you construct your sentences with more so you don't come across as attacking those you are trying to have a discussion with.

In both of those quotes, you implied (if not directly stated) that the players who were getting excited about new crown store items disgust you. If that was not your intent, so be it. But that's certainly what it looked like, and why you are getting so much heat.

Cheers to those that enjoy these things in crown store.

I did not purposefully try to belittle or insult anyone. I was here long before the crown store. I have seen what the game was like before and what it has become. I have seen the regular, quality, bug-free content that subscription models can provide. I am legitimately disgusted by these threads and I'll tell you why.

It's not about people being excited for a Baby Netch. It's not about the people in these threads at all. It's about being lied to and strung along. It's about investing a lot of time and effort into a hobby that I feel is being destroyed by this business model.

We were told, all of us, that ESO will NOT go FTP, yet here we are, getting excited about a damned dress in the crown store and yes, I am disgusted by it. ESPECIALLY after seeing IC, Orcinium, and all the bugs and lag that still exist in this game. This business model enables them to continue releasing this garbage.

Hey guys the game doesn't work but here is a pretty pink princess dress for you. That'll be 20 dollars please.

Better they produce this type of fluff than PTW items like many other MMOs. Not as if the graphics designers etc would be able to fix bugs or lag anyway and this stuff helps pay the salaries of the people who can fix bugs and lag.

This view point is also bogus. Perfectly capable animation and programming guys are working on these items that could otherwise be helping to fix Toppling Charge for example.

Capable animation guys? Seen the animation of riding a bear mount? Ive seen better riding animations in cheap 3d p0rn flicks.

The polar bear looks like a mount from a Nintendo 64 game. Something about the rendering or textures seems off. I've been using the 10k Brown horse for the first 200 cp. Been waiting on a sick mount and I do look forward to equipping leopard senche and goat pet.

Hey, OP, thanks for the thread. I'm just sorry I have to wait until the 10th to get my Polar Bear :'( . I held off on the bear mounts, cuz I knew this was coming. I will have a hard time deciding on netch pet or polar cub, though. If the pet is like the in game cub, it will be hard to resist. :p

For those that dislike the bear animation, I don't get it. Don't know if it rides differently, but the animation LOOKS very close to a live bear running. Good enough for me.

For those who think the crown store is bad for the game, and don't understand why people spend crowns on this stuff, I have to ask "What the devil else am I supposed to do with the 22k crowns I've accumulated from my subsrcription?" I see no harm in mounts and costumes in the crown store. But I do agree about crafting items.....either they should not be in the crown store, or they should be easier to get in game. But incorporating a double RNG on motifs and selling them in crown store was pure greed. I will do without a motif before I succumb to buying it.

You know what I want to see in the crown store? Notes discussions about changes to the game that will fix it such as WB nerfs HA changes buffs to DKs and Templares.

ESO was bleeding subs from the PC version long before the console launch. I think the console launch was just the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. I'd be willing to bet that the reason they dropped the sub model before launching on consoles is exactly because most console gamers fall into the category of players I mentioned. ZOS knew that a sub model wouldn't fly on consoles, and wanted to drop it beforehand to make sure they could get as many players as they could when it launched.
    Also, ESO is not F2P.
I love when people argue semantics this...

For the purpose of 99% of the discussions where it comes up, there is absolutely no functional difference between B2P and F2P.

The sub model has been flying on consoles since 2000 and FFXI on PS2. Both PC and PS2 players play on the same server. Its flying again on PS3 with FFXIV. Both PC and PS3 players also play on the same server.

The only reason the sub model didnt fly on ESO is because the game was released broken and unfinished and it still is to this day. It has nothing to do with the hardware.

Pretty sure you are correct. Both those mounts look like re-release. Both were 'limited time only' before. It's the Disney model....every so often, release Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella for a short time, then lock them up again. No doubt we'll see a limited Polar Bear release every year just in time for all the Coca-Cola Christmas polar bear ads. :D

Remember when we were all so upset about $2.99 for horse armor in Oblivion?

    Good times. Good times.

As for the items being offered: I'm glad to see that some of the sench mounts are back. That gives us a good idea about the kind of turnaround we should expect to see on these sorts of things. The baby net netch should have been offered with the plush. It bums me out that they stop doing that. Been offered with the flesh. It bums me out that they stop doing that. It also bums me out that it seems like the way we're going to get regular clothes in ESO is through costumes instead of through a tailor crafting line. Well, through thievery and costumes.

Oh, one last thing. ZOS really missed a great opportunity here to release a Snow Leopard mount. I think I would have been tempted to buy that.

@xeven if this game is so broken and bad why the hell are you here? Either shut up and get on with it or if it's do terrible in your opinion go play something else.

Btw I and a few of my friends will be buying the polar bear mount, why? Because I earn money, the £3 odd it will cost me in real money terms is about 10 minutes of my time at work, hell that's probably how long I spend sitting on the toilet over the course of a day at work.

So quite literially me sitting having a crap is enough money to buy the bear mount.

    /sigh...

Most of the time, "F2P" is used in a discussion to distinguish a game without a sub model from with one. The initial price paid for the game is typically inconsequential to most discussions comparing sub-model games from non-sub games. For all intents of this thread (and most others on the forums), "F2P" is a perfectly adequate term to use.
