i know its a dead horse but......

Animation cancelling, i simply just cant get it down. i have tried and tried for hours on end practicing it over and over again, iv watched videos, read guides and i still cant get it down. so my dps suffers form it, i miss out on content because of it. iv gotten ridiculed in 4 man dungeons for not doing it, so i stopped doing them, i havnt done any trails, since i cant do it(iv gotten kicked out out of pug groups, so i stopped doing trails). i get owned in PvP all the time since i cant do it.

i know ZOS has said they like and will not be doing anything about it, to me this sounds like they just dont have any clues on how to stop it.

i know im not the only out there like this.

so what i am supposed to do? i really do enjoy/love this game but if i cant simply do the content whats the point?

and before anyone says it ill say it first
"if you cant animation cancel then you just suck and should find a different game"

That's funny because in a Stamina Sorc thread you said this:
i do just fine dps 15-20k on my stam sorc, dont know whats everyones problem is. with the class and build.

I don't know many people achieving 15K-20K DPS who are getting kicked from pug groups. Sorry but I smell a rat.

    Animation cancelling = Dexterity = Skill = People whine = L2P.

Can we move on, please? I'm sure that people also need to demand new group content (aka, more group bosses and daylies) as well, we need to keep the forums clean and ready for those ~

My entire account was permanently banned because I was reported daily by guild of players that I used to destroy every day in Cyrodiil. They guild leader encouraged its members to report me. They reported me for "Hacking" despite having no evidence, but just because I would kill their whole group. Eventually they found a GM who did indeed ban me for "Hacking the game to create movement not otherwise permitted by game mechanics". They never explained exactly what I was banned for and despite appeals I was told my account was "permanently banned". A few days later my account was unbanned with no explanation other than they didn't feel they had sufficient evidence. I of course have never used nor would I use any hack or exploit in this game, but I still keep the fact that I was almost permanently banned by a form of player harassment at the forefront of my mind when dealing with ZoS.

Get a mouse with decent side buttons which you can press easily and comfortably without screwing up. I find claw grip is best. Then it is a simple matter of clicking your mouse attack button followed by the ability. I play with a lot of lag too and I have no issues doing it. In fact, given the lag I have it is "required or abilities do not go off properly. For instance, if I do not switch weapons followed immidiately by block it will switch back to my first bar and I will end up pressing an ability that I do not want to be pressed. You can also train yourself to hit block as well to cut short things like flawless dawnbreaker or shields, etc.

I wonder how many people play ESO and do not even know of animation canceling or find out at higher levels, if animation canceling is going to be a permanent part of the game, there should be a Tutorial explaining it when you start as a new player.

This I heard ZOS said it was an intended feature so like other intended features include a tutorial.

"Animation cancelling" is just a too-oft parroted cliche and "doing something about it" will do more harm than good, by ruining the one unique thing ESO has going for it which is the GCD-free active combat.

What you call "animation cancelling" is a necessary and correctly implemented consequence of an active combat system, which allows one ability to flow seamlessly into the next. Can you imagine the clunky and artificial tedium that would be waiting for each ability to fully animate before the next plays, especially in PVP where reaction time is critical? I might as well play a turn-based or RPG or GCD rotation WoW clone!

Trying to gut ESO's excellent combat system to artificially insert chunkiness and make it just like any other button mashing rotation MMO just because a few people are fretting about "not being able to compete" would truly be a travesty, especially when these concerns are only in your mind.

The DPS gain is minimal, even using keyboard and mouse macros to precisely execute millisecond by millisecond combos. The bulk of "animation cancelling" happens without you even thinking about it as a natural consequence of using your abilities. You probably don't even realize it, but unless you are sitting there waiting until your character is completely motionless after using one attack or ability to use another, you are already animation cancelling.

Threads like this are truly much ado about nothing.

There is a big missunderstanding with animation canceling. Although originally not intended, AC is a good feature of the game. It makes DPSing more demanding and skillbased then just having a good build like in other mmos.
In case you want any tips it would be good to know which attacks you want to cancel and which weapon you are using for it, some are easier, some harder, especially when you are using skills that have a cast time or are a channel. I don't know how it works on console but on PC I think it's the easiest to start with simple medium attack + instant cast.

There was a thread that was back around a few months ago about macro's, and it was discovered that it was quite hard to set them up due to the different times needed for each skill, they locked you into the macro until it was finished meaning you couldn't change it up quickly if needed, and it's also in the gray area that may get you banned. Certainly if you get far enough into making everything auto-attack then it'd start becoming closer to a "bot" from the devs point of view.

You don't need to animation cancel to compete, I hardly use it and I fly through dungeons and do well in PvP. But animation canceling is pretty simple, all you have to do is cast your ability, and then just bash afterwards and it cancels the animation. I only use it for my ultimates, and sometimes when I really need the extra time in a fight.

We are talking about the light attack/skill canceling right ? Meaning the time needed doesnt change. When talking about the skill/bash canceling, your right, why I said this one folowing the "light" macro must be done manually.
And sorry but the DPS gain with light canceling is huge, and the advantage in pvp specially in 1v1 is even bigger.

I understand how you must feel. I have tried animation cancelling too, but more out of curiosity than a need to, and I managed to get it to work once with one of my bow skills. I don't do trials yet so I haven't encountered people demanding that you know how to animation cancel. Also, I expected to die in PVP easily because I'm not good at it anyway, so perhaps not knowing how to animation cancel hasn't really made it any worse. But I have heard that if you want to be doing the best you possibly can in PvP, you need to know how to animation cancel, which is kind of sad to know :(

With the bow try charging a heavy attack, then while still holding it activate poison injection. You will fire both arrows in the same two seconds.

Works for bombard too, i do it all the time.

Almost all skills have different minor cooldowns (in milliseconds, but still there) so that you can't AC unless you get a feel for where they are for each skill.

It's only a benefit with certain types of attacks and the like. As some posters here have mentioned, certain skill setups don't benefit as much and it just becomes more effort than it's worth.

If you can't learn how to do something as simple as tapping block after an ability to "animation cancel". How do you expect Zos to do something as complex as change their in game code to stop animation canceling?

Sounds like your being a bit hypocritical here

I don't see a huge DPS loss as long as your rotation is on point tbh. I don't use animation canceling at all usually and my DPS is just fine.

because there isnt... block canceling an ability doesn't do much since there is a hidden 1 second global cooldown anyways... People like the OP greatly over-exaggerate the benefits and difficulty of animation canceling.

He was probably getting kicked out of the groups because his build was probably bad, dying too much or didn't know the mechanics of this fight. But I've never heard of someone getting kicked for not animation canceling in this game.

Actually in one of the more recent ESO Live episodes, they said they're trying some things out to discourage it.

    That would be great :)

Top notch against top notch it will even out
Leaderboards positions of top notch between eachother will not really change
Average Joe against average Joe was already evened out
The gap between top notch against average Joe will get smaller, without disappearing. Nice !
... and this silly discriminating of access to groups if you are not superperforming has less arguments

although, like some comments already say, why would you like to be in a group at all that uses this kind of arguments ?

"I still do not understand why I followed the advice of Captain Rana to bring the villagers of Bleakrock into safety. We should have fought for our village and not have backed down, with our tail between our legs.
Now my home village is in shambles, the houses burning, the invaders feasting.
I swear every day to Shor that after Molag Bal has been defeated, I will hunt down the invaders and restore peace in Bleakrock and drink my mead with my friends at the market place".
