I don't care at all about leveling. I play this game only to roleplay with other players. I have played since Beta, and my highest level character is still only VR1. And now I'm roleplaying with another character.

But moooooom I don't want to grind.
I have 2 VR16, and just can't stomach the grind on more alts.

It's not that I have a problem with grinding per se, it's that the game doesn't support that playstyle. Yet it's pretty much required to get to max level.
Veteran ranks can't get removed soon enough.

What are you talking about? I am VR 16.
I have 3 vr16 and I'm working man playing couple hours a day after work. 2 of the chars I've just played and grinded some when close to leveling and just wanted that level fast. 1 of those was then char that I wanted to get to high levels quick since gone through questing with 2 chars already so that is mostly grinded. And played since early access.

It's not race or question of how many max lvl chars one has. Enjoy the game and play with the pace and style (questing/grinding) as you like.

I chose my answer not because I want to be rude, but truly I'm just taking my time.

Personally I don't feel a need to rush to become veteran 16. To me the whole reason I'm here is to enjoy the scenery, the characters I've created, and the quests. I've been playing nearly every day since beta (with 24 characters on two accounts) and I still don't have any characters at veteran rank because I do like taking my time (and obviously I've spread myself thin over all those alts). I read every line of dialogue, do every side quest and 'fetch-me-this' quest, read the notes and journals, etc. And I love just wandering around exploring and harvesting. (Annnnd also a lot of time is eaten up doing the bag-bank-shuffle, UG)

Of course how I play is not everyone's thing, and that's fine. I assume people who are more into PVP are more concerned with reaching max level. But personally I've actually been annoyed with the recent increase in XP gain which is making it so that I'm very overleveled if I do every quest in a zone rather than just doing the main ones. I do like to have some challenge, but I don't like to skip content which is what I have to do now if I don't want the quest bosses to be laughable....

I'm honestly a bit perplexed, though, about the complaints about veteran rank leveling, seeing as I borrowed my husband's vet2 character to do some chest runs and harvesting on Khenarthi's roost and somehow leveled him up a whole veteran level Just Opening Chests. So... it can't be that hard. I think it was over the course of a week of doing a couple rounds of looting chests there each day so I could have my crafters decon some higher level stuff. I wasn't even paying attention, and then.... oh, oops... I guess I leveled him up.

My main is right on the verge of v16, but it's taken him well over a year to reach it. What's the big flaming hurry anyway? I've enjoyed his journey. He still has Orsinium quests to start properly, even though he's already caught all the fish, including the purple one!

Grinding has never been my cup of tea, and frankly, PvP in vet is a pain in the but if you're only VR1. Just doesn't seem worth the effort when I could roll an alt and play another alliance if I got bored. I may try to level a little in vet simply so I can continue crafting and maybe test PvP a little more if I feel like it.

Taking my time here and actually enjoying Caldwell's Silver and Gold questlines. Granted, I can see how this would get tiring on alts but I'm seeing it for the first time on my main. I'm also going for the achievements of doing all the quests in each zone. I'm a completionist and must see everything through at least once. I'm almost vet 10 and still in the second zone of Caldwell's gold.

On my second character, I will do the main stories of Caldwell's but probably venture into PvP and the new zones which I haven't seen. She is vet 1 and still hasn't finished up the Rift..yikes or the main storyline. I've never been a rush to the max level because once I get there, my interest in the game starts waning.

Sigh.. I ask that of a guildie, who other than two months with computer problems, played every day as the rest of our group. He started day 1, 4/4/2014. He CLAIMS to have every quest in every zone done, except Cyro, which he detests.. I hit level cap two zones BEFORE I was done.. so I really cant comprehend it.

For my alts.. yeah.. well.. they dont need to be end game, until I need them.

For all you guys at V16 that "claim" to only play 2 hours a day and sometimes takes days off and be at V16 since console release, I'm sorry. I don't believe you.

I've been playing since console release and played about 3 hours a day for 2 months running and never got above V4 (and that was only after I played 8 hours a day 7 days a week while I was recovering from knee surgery for 2 weeks).

Either I am doing something very, very, very wrong (okay, I'll admit, I don't concentrate on grinding, but, hey...).

I've been playing around the same length of time, and if I had focused on my main and not started a DK then I'd easily have a VR16 now. It's just heaps easier after IC to gain VR, to a ridiculous degree in fact.

I'm reaching VR16 by doing Cadwell's Silver and Gold. It means no grinding, just continual exploration and adventure without repeating the same delve like some moron who thinks the VR16 superiority badge is more satisfying than enjoying the game.
If I'm not VR16 by the end of Cadwell's Gold I can visit Craglorn and do something else different to level up.

I've been playing since beta and my highest char is VR13. Alas now they have done all the content (except wrothgar) so it's gonna be an annoying little grind for them.

The main reason why my levelling is slow though is that i have probably made over 20 characters and deleted over half of them and many of them were VRs all in the name of alt-holism.

I thought about this a while and have settled upon the following answer:

Because Cadwell's Silver and Gold is terrible in concept and execution. It completely took all of the wind out of my sails of motivation and made me care very little for progressing any further.

If I want to play the other factions... I'll create characters in the other factions, and I have.

    agreed

slightly sidetracking here, but I guess I'm torn on this issue.... On the one hand I'm sure some people like just having one character and being able to do everything in the game with that character. And I do find it intriguing to experience the other factions with some of my characters, especially when I was torn as to which faction to put them in. But.... on the other hand, yeah.... that's one of the things Alts are for after all, and it kind of feels awkward feeling like you've switched alliances, or not having any end game content for the faction that your character became attached to and invested in during their journey of development. I'd like to be able to explore the whole world with a single character and preferably not be attacked in every town I enter while doing so, but doing the main questline for another monarch feels strange. I don't know, I Do like the Option to go through all those quests in other alliances, but I'm not sure I necessarily like it being what everyone pretty much has to do in order to advance. I do think it could have been handled better.

I'm not someone who feels 'been there done that' much, I don't mind replaying quests at all, in fact I'm glad to have a chance to do so, however I know this is definitely a big turn off for a lot of people, so... in that respect it's definitely bad design as well.

(Personally I think it would be interesting if there were certain people, or perhaps certain areas, you would need to avoid or sneak in while exploring another faction's PVE zones, but it's not like you're wearing a faction uniform so you just look like a normal person to most NPCs (well... maybe like a crazy overdressed pompous hero of a bad adventure novel). Not all the quests would be available when they're related to the main leaders or when you're supposed to be recognized for your services to that alliance, but you could still be that random good samaritan that delivers a note to some guy's brother in another town or saves a farm from a daedra infestation. I'd love to be able to go to these places, but still have the awareness that I'm not in my home turf. I don't know,... kind of like when disguised you have to avoid guards with torches, there should be some NPCs who would be able to identify you as being from another aliance and run you out of town or something...? Some spy missions for other undercover NPCs from your faction would be awesome I think, or in the instances where you have invasions -think vivec's antler's for instance- you could fight with your home faction NPCs to make a different ending to that area's story.... or something like that. anyways, yeah... veteran zones...hrmmm....)
