Given that ESO is launching in Japan by June, part of me wonders if they'll end up in-game around that time.

I know a lot of people don't like the idea that this is a legitimate concern for a lot of other players. It's important to keep in mind that a considerable portion of the ESO community is genuinely interested in lore, aesthetics, etc... some of the things that many of us will easily write off. While I personally don't deem this change as a necessity or a priority, I also want it to be consistent. I like katanas, and would really like to see the Akaviri swords follow suit!

Maybe this is Cyrodillic Akaviri (after all, it's being crafted here) just like we have Imperial + Daedric with Xivkyn... and they're saving proper Akaviri equipment for a future planned expansion or something like that (?)

Honestly it's not like there's a monoculture on Akavir that is encompassed completely by a single armor or weapon style. In the lore, we have Tsaesci, which if I recall don't even wear armor in general, some human-ish Akaviri people that wear kind of samurai-ish armor and use katanas, and then another set of samurai-ish armor which is actually Orcish (from the Morrowind game). Obviously none of these are a perfect cognate for the Akaviri Motif in-game, and even that motif is based on the Fighter's Guild armor sets inspired by the armor created by the Potentate that authorized the Figheter's Guild Charter. What I'm trying to say is that it's a mess and there's no way to justify changing it going on the lore.

On the other hand, we do know that katana models are in the game, as they are used in the Lord's Mail set. So if you want katanas (and by all means, it's fine to want things!) you should be asking to make that a crafting motif, not trying to change something that already exists and is great.

I can't believe the people speaking as though ZoS maliciously decided to make the Akaviri swords look the way they do. Newsflash, they probably chose to not make them katanas because...That's just what they thought would be better. So sorry that you don't like it.

Don't misunderstand me, I would like it if they were katanas as well, but I just noticed the way some were commenting on the issue in this thread and had to say something.

Here is the real problem. ZOS has internal production issues. Doing the slightest bit of actual work has a colossal lead time. It may seem simple to us to update a motif and switch out a new model for the swords.

But they probably coded it in such a way that any change will cause framerates to drop in cyrodiil, a memory leak, and cloak gives NBs 5000 Weapon damage.

This is why Mat Firor always says no eta. Getting anything out of their production team must be like pulling teeth.
