Probably overstating the intent here. Most likely this admission was unintentional by a harried worker who is now reprimanded or fired. I won't believe otherwise until we see a lot more of this 'honesty'.

Now, what they really need to do is to drop plans to sell Laurel in the Crown Store and remove the BoP restriction. I know that the ZeniMax overlords want their pound of flesh from ESO, but the players need to have commerce and players do commerce in style materials. While Laurel in the Crown Store will get sales from people buying Laurel, what commerce by players in the Laurel trade gets is active players that use Crowns to buy pets, mounts, costumes, DLC, and spend cash to buy ESO Plus.

@MSchroeder, tell the ZeniMax overlords that the players have to have something to sell each other in the game, more than just completed armor and motif chapters. Players need to be able to buy and sell, for gold, all the materials used to create these items in the game.

I don't think you (and other posters in this thread) fully understand the system they're putting in place.

You will still be able to sell the materials to refine a Laurel. So......? Why does it matter if the refined material is bound? The raw material that you pick up in the game is not. Sell the raw material in stacks of ten...... it's teh same as selling 1 refined Laurel.

It's the exact same system they're using for glass currently.

I really don't mind the crown store and whatever they put in there. A company has to make money after all. But what bothers me is their mindset: They keep on upgrading the crown store with new "content" (cough IC cough), but they don't bother with the old content. Seriously, this game has so many bugs, so many problems and is more or less unplayable in certain situations.. But they simply do not care, as there hasn't been any significant improvement over a long period now. Or they are not competent enough to actually fix the problems. Don't know which one is worse though.

Unless you are actually seeing something different on PTS, none of the text that Gina or M have posted indicates that Laurels are assembled like Malachite. If they have said something, I have not seen it (even with Dev Stalker)

The issue here with Merc motif is that it isn't just that it will be sold in Crown Store, but that your crafter must be able to run undaunted dailies.

Your crafter does not have to run Undaunted pledges. Your adventurer character can do the pledge, then put the laurels or motifs in the bank for your crafting character.

Your adventurer can do the pledges all day and will get zero laurels unless it learns the new motif chapters. Laurels drop rate has to be unlinked from chapters learnt at least at the basic (50%) level for this system to be remotely acceptable.

Chapters sound easy to get, so the biggest problem will be crafting level 9.

Where the f*** did I state my assumption that servers didn't cost money to maintain? As someone who ran a cluster of both TF2 and Killing Floor servers, I more than damn well know that maintaining servers costs money.

I'm just stating that they're not fooling anyone by making all this stuff hard to get, which was something they said they originally had no intention of.

With just one chapter under your belt – likely obtained after only a day’s worth of Pledges – your most Undaunted character will be getting a Laurel about every other run through a Veteran Dungeon.

I have yet to finish an undaunted dungeon. My highest character is vet 4, and the group I game with has only made it through the NON vet version of blackheart haven once. We've tried a few vet dungeons; we just aren't good enough yet.

He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

So the cash shop has poisoned game direction? Who would have thought?

How do we know that crown store monetization isn't around the corner for and guiding the development of many more parts of this game that aren't just aesthetic in effect?

Edit: This all being said - I don't consider the Laurel that big of a cash grab opportunity. As Kai write, they won't be a pain to get and that means that we probably won't feel the need to buy them.

Im not sure if I would go so far as saying the Cash Shop has poisoned the game but it has certainly added a giant level of grinding to our experience that was almost non-existent prior to update 6 (besides VRanks)...

Please put the Mercany Motif and Laurels in the crown store and take my money just as you did Glass and thank you for doing it.

I have no desire to grind out hours of motif chapter hunting or finding someone to pay to craft something for me. Especially the overrated prices for "new"motifs.

It's always funny to me the people who complain about "money grabs" and crown store sells are the same people who are trying to exploit the market in game I.e "money grab"

Thank you for occasionally picking a motif and allowing those who choose to spend the money the ability to create it.

By all means thrown out Dwemer or Xvykin or the new Orsinium style you can purchase for AP so crafters have something to chase and sell but thank you for not making everything only avail to hose who have lots of free time or lots of free gold.

Crafting is tied to an achievement though which people chase in game. At the moment (some) achievements only rewards you with cosmetic colours and titles, but there is no sure fire way of saying this will always be the case. If people give into the grind and just pay to get them for an achievement, then that gives a message to the crown store devs that they can put other things in there which will ease the pain. The next thing you know you have raw xp sold in the store, then how long before unique armour sets are in there that surpass everything that can be got in game.

We are not against ZOS making money, we do understand business. Hence we would rather see DLCs for sale and things that are purely cosmetic to make individuals stand out . But this brings temptation for ZOS to try something more brazen, and that is going to hurt the game.

    Yes.

I definitely want ZOS to make a ton of money. Many times more than is necessary to develop and operate the game.

I would just rather they never have to sell the soul of the game to do it.

Well, it's great that you're willing to spend $50 (or $40 if you purchase the 5500 Crown pack) to get a style motif and 10 style material. A lot of people aren't or don't have the money to spend on it. The alternative, then is having to grind for it.

The point is, if you don't want to fork over $40/$50 of real money, you're forced into an incredible slog/grind. I've managed one glass page so far and 6 malachite shards. I also only have 3 of the 7 Ambrosia pages (with 2 duplicates) - all of those, incidentally, received within the first month; I've received exactly zero since then.

It's not that this stuff is in the Crown store for the sake of convenience, it's that they're making the in-game versions of them extremely difficult to obtain. Put the stuff in the Crown store for those of us who don't mind paying/would rather pay. Just don't make it so difficult for those of us who would rather obtain them in game. That smacks of purposely driving people to spend money they wouldn't otherwise spend because you're making it a real pain to get it in game.

Provide content in the Crown store that is compelling and stop making things in-game a grind just so that people will get tired of it and fork over the cash (or just quit the game entirely since they're fed up with it).

    This is my worry.

For me, I've not leveled any character past vet 4 (I really take my time) and so I'm not feeling shorted by not finding such and so vet 14-15-16 mats.

But given this level of scarcity/grinding, I can easily see that if I was running characters of those levels, I might well quit out of feeling so disrespected by the game.
