IC Destroyed a friendship but it was mostly my fault for promoting it.

I finally convinced a mate to buy IC, we joined a group of about 9 other players, started our journey through the sewers, killed a few bosses, and collected a nice little bunch of stones, mate was having a good time, or so he said? anyway we decided that we had enough stones and crap that we picked up it was time to head back and hand in our stuff, about 5 foot from the door to our safe zone, bang!!! about 20+ group appear out of nowhere and all those lovely stones gone, I release and go back through the door to try and defend our area, dead as I spawn, tried again, dead.... this went on for nearly an hour, I advised my buddy that we could try to do some IC quests, went up a ladder, jumped down managed to get to that poster you burn, started fighting a group of NCP and we get jumped by a big group, tried again, but this time we were dead before we reached the poster.

Long story short, mate accused me of convincing him that this IC was worth the effort and has now deleted me from his FL???

IC is great for groups, but casuals and gamers who struggle to find guilds that are still going strong will definitely suffer in IC, the idea of having all that hard work collecting stones to have 90% of them taken from you in one death just doesn't feel worth it, but hey I can live with that, what I don't get is every group you join lately just wants to hang out in spawn areas and camp! that's not how I like to play but feel I cannot go solo, surely there has to be a better way of collecting stones and still hanging onto them after a death, if your not near a safe zone, you loose most of them as it is now, but if your close to a safe zone you loose less?

I'm sure my mate will get over his frustration and eventually come back, but I do get where he is coming from... if you read this Sorry buddy!

Might just be a ragequit scenario, done that myself. Though i never took out that frustration on others, i just quickly and gracefully tap alt-f4 and go drink a coffee and play GTA San Andreas on my tablet to chill, then come back later on. Something tells me if he dumped a friendship over a silly pixel death and stones, it wasn't really a friendship to begin with. The spawn camping thing in the IC has way less to do with trying to be a jerk than it does with people just looking to battle someone. So many people in this game refuse to want to fight in PVP it's maddening. I guested into Haderus yesterday and was forced to camp the Daggerfall IC Arena spawn because 50 DC and AD were just hanging out having a 1 on 1 fight club on the Arena doorstep. I'm all for a good duel but the Arena doorstep is NOT the right place for it. I don't regret aggroing Immolator Char into them at all.

Keep your interfaction duels in the Cyrodiil wilderness!

Shockingly the whole let other players loot all your stuff isnt working out. Just like I said it wouldnt. Feels good to be vindicated by all these posts. PVP people hate IC. PVE people hate IC. But hey zenimax doesnt bother listening to its players they just do whatever. Many games have tried open looting and not one of them is considered AA much less AAA. I guess the only one I can think of even remotely successful is EVE. Once Orsinium comes out the zergs will have to turn on themselves because noone will be left.

Yeah. All the casuals and pve'ers will abandon IC with the release of Orsinium. I can only think that the zergs will thin out since IC won't be the only way to get good V16 gear. At that point, IC will be left with the hardcore pvp'ers which might adopt the small scale pvp concept that I believe ZoS had for IC. Imo, they should've released Orsinium with IC in tandem. The pve'ers would've gone to Orsinium and frolick in their happiness and the griefers would've had their gank-fest in IC.

@ZoS You can't force people into a game mode that facilitates griefing and supports unsportsman-like behavior. You should take a look at Bartle's taxonomy. IC was simply a ploy to pander to the "killer" demographic...in a perfectly symmetrical population that only accounts for 1/4 of your players, but I have a feeling that that number is far less. By making TV stones the only way to snag V16 gear, you essentially forced the casuals and pve players to adopt underhanded tactics to get them. Hence...Zergfest and sewer camping. In all honesty, I liked the idea of IC, but the progression system put in place for it does not work. I would suggest doing a little more playtesting before releasing such a polarizing game mode.

Well there is a port stone you can buy to get back to base when you have a lot of stones you don't want to risk. Personally I have stopped focusing on stones and shifted to the collection of the trophy vault items. One trend I have noticed being used that impressed me is the stealth NB who is using mob cover to burst out on targets. Annoying as hell but innovative.

I feel gutted and partially responsible for him leaving, but I guess some people have a much shorter fuse than me, I am all for a fair fight, but this hanging around spawn areas is just not for me, so I end up joining random groups just to make life easier, yeah I don't get many stones so I mostly concentrate on obtaining materials so I can craft my own VR16 gear, its not the best but it will do for now. I have gamed with my mate since day one, yeah I think he will be back when the new PVE content comes out, but it has made me think about shutting my mouth when someone askes me what I think about stuff that will cost them money.

Yeah, I have to say your right on that, but I never expected there to be a group of 20+ waiting near our door, the shocking part was they stayed there for over an hour. I would post the video but I have no knowledge about how you hide players names, so easier not to post, the sad part was where the guy sent me a message thanking me for all my stones :/ B@s..d I did try and convince my buddy that it's not always this bad but I think his pain threshold had been passed.

The reasons zergs can huddle like that is AoE is capped to 6 targets.
If your group is bigger than 6 members gain 75% damage reduction.

Write this on the back of your box and see how many sales you get!

You won't get any new PvP players until this archaic AoE crap is fixed.
I for one won't resub until:
    1.) You fix lag.
2.) You remove AOE caps we voted against.
3.) 12 months have passed (this is how long we've waited for you to 'get with it')[/b]

Only flaw I can really found in IC is that Ganking is riskless, its just way too rewarding for solo ganker and risks are minimum. Fun idea, but wrong game, well I dont really know what kind of game can do that, people hated it even in Darkfall whats full loot, full PVP game, thats really the way to attract the lowest of the lowest, imho.

That's what I usually do when I encounter a group or powerful PvPers in IC: cloak away

Anyways, if your friend got mad at you for losing TV Stones and getting ganked by enemy groups/players in a PvP area, then he shouldn't have gotten mad at you or even blame you for buying IC.

I mean, TV Stones are only a small portion of the DLC and they're only really there to try and get the polymorphs. Plus IC is a PvP area and it's meant for some unpredictable small scale PvP battles where Nightblades can lurk anywhere, monsters and bosses can join in on the fight, groups can clash in heavily farmed zones,...

I'm a casual player: I play this game be4 I go to work and when I get back home. I'm a Magicka NB (who does feel right at home in IC) and the DLC was a bit both overwhelming as well as disappointing at times too. But in the end it grew on me, and I usually spend a lot of time in IC gathering mats/trohpies and looking for enemy players/gankers to fight (though it sometimes ends with me fleeing when the player turns out to be too good a PvP player).

Point is: buying a DLC takes a bit of time getting used to it, especially one that combines PvE with PvP. Your friend will hopefully realize that eventually, try to make the best of his purchase and find out that he was wrong blaming you for it. Just give him some time, he'll come around you'll see :)

IC is designed for the really coordinated small groups, who farm everyone including zergs, or Zergs.

I hate zergs as they only continue to promote players belief that they do not need to continuing to improve their playstyle or ability. So i farm them as a small group.

And its extremely dumb, im sorry for your friend and i can understand his frustration, but as others said thats not your fault. I would love to just run around and solo play in IC but, again, zergs yo.
