Race change when?

Personally, I'm on the fence about changing Race.

I can see changing facial features, hair, hair color, body ornamentation, etc., in a "barber shop" type of feature. That I can easily see. That would allow you to change your character to reflect the growth experienced and/or the changes that they go through as they level throughout their "career" adventuring (mostly used by RP'ers, but many other people could use a barber shop feature).

It makes no sense to me why we can't have cosmetic changes available in the game. I feel as if it's a small punishment to not be able to make those small cosmetic changes if we made a mistake during character creation months beforehand. Some of those mistakes aren't readily apparent at character creation, some character features become mistakes as a character grows through RP. Either way, being able to change those to reflect changes in your character only makes sense to me.

But Race changes? Meh, It's going to take me awhile to come up with a justification for that one.

I kinda agree with that, though there are lore-conforming precedents for race change, be it snow elves mutating into falmer through special fungi diet, nords and bretons turning gobling through a cursed "emerald chalice" (rivenspire) or dunmer turning themselves argonian trying for khajiit through alchemy (greenshade).

But the basic justification is pretty much the whining of min/maxxers who had the racial passives changed on them during rebalancing, and now lost a full 3% (gasp) effectiveness and really, really "need" to switch to a "better" race because their character is now "useless".
Oh, and maybe one or two roleplayers who need to completely reimagine a character to make a clean break after some roleplay line that ended... badly.

Personally I wouldn't see any need or desire for -me- to change any of my characters race at this point (not even the argonian dragonknight or the nord sorceror), but I can see why others might. And as long as they pay a decnet bag of crowns for this, I have no objections, after all, the profit would go to ZOSs warchest, to keep the servers running and finance more content for me all the sooner, right? ;)

    Necromancy!

I'll be honest, conjuring up a 14 month post to rub it in the faces of people who you'll never meet is the height of pettiness. I completely approve!

I agree with this. Except for the approving of such pettiness.

Don't know what the issue was but I certainly made good - if overpriced - use of those tokens. They allowed me to revive two of my abandoned characters, one of which I play almost every night now.

For an online gamer there is no lore, you see. No earlier games, just this one. And the story, while well done at times, particularly in Wrothgar, is just a story you experience enroute to the multiplayer game part.

I know these single player games had immense meaning for millions of people, but too many folks I encounter in this game remind me of Binx Bolling from Walker Percy's The Movie Goer.

For a hardcore min/maxer online gamer, he is kinda right, those people only play to be the best of the best, and doesnt care about lore at all...

Possibly for a hardcore min/maxer online gamer. Would you say that description applies to all online gamers though? Or even the majority of those who play games online?

No....I'm not a hardcore min/max player but I am an online gamer.

I never would have played computer games otherwise. The only thing that drew me to them was an advert in '85 for a Kesmai game that promised I could play a computer game with people from around the world tonight!

And that was the night :p

I later worked for Kesmai and online games became my career.

I'm far, far from the best of the best computer game player. That's not it. What is it is the most unique form of entertainment in the world - a narrative told by the audience in which people are judge purely by their conduct in the game world.

Sex, age, race, class, physical appearance...none of that matters. Where else can you find that? It was a manner of human interaction so breathtaking in its departure from the rest of the world....well...I think I've said enough.

Thus the story is backdrop for me. I don't mean to disrespect its meaning for untold millions of people. I'm simply not one of them is all.
