I play on a similar speed, and the game runs mighty fine. Ignore naysayers, you'll enjoy ESO on a DSL line.

Also as a side question - should I keep the modem on all the time or is it better to shut it off when I'm not using it?

Modern DSL modems/routers have a power saving mode that engages when no active data transfer is occurring. Functional groups like wifi transmitters can usually be scheduled to shut down over night to save even more energy.
Every time a DSL modem is switched on, it needs to measure line properties and negotiate transmission bands with its counterpart, the DSLAM. This is a time consuming process; having servers that run 24/7, I don't bother with it. In fact, I've let every modem I've owned powered on all the time since I first got DSL in 2000.
Some ISPs encourage or even demand that modems are being kept online all the time, so it's easier for them to distribute firmware updates.
As long as this doesn't happen more than once a day: ISPs generally interrupt the DSL connection every 24 hours, resulting in a retraining of line parameters and a new IP(v4) address being assigned to the router.Asherons_Call wrote: »Also do you have any insight on why the DSL completely shut down and all icons on the router became red? I'm sure it could be any number of reasons but what are some of the more common ones?
