Maintenance for the week of September 1:
• [COMPLETE] PC/Mac: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 2, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC) - 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC)
• Xbox: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 3, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EDT (16:00 UTC)
• PlayStation®: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 3, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EDT (16:00 UTC)

This is why we need gated access.

I would change gated access to random 3 of 6 home keeps.
And some kicking mechanism from IC need to be added. Like " Your alliance lost access to IC, u will be kicked in 20mins." (offliners too) So u have some time to get keep back.

I would like to suggest that if gated access is used more wide spread that the requirements for it a toned down. In its current form if any home keep is taken a faction looses ic. This essentially means that if any pvp happens on the map someone is getting punished for it.

My personal suggestion is that ic access requires 3 keeps, but no just any 3 keeps.

First it requires 2 relic keeps. This means in order to access a faction must have their scroll gates closed , but it prevents a group from ninja capturing one just for the sake of closing access.

Second it requires 1 of the 2 home Emperor keeps. This means that in order to have access a faction must have some presence on the inner circle.

Factions would obviously go for more keep than just 3. This would keep the requirements meaningful, but prevent them from shifting to locked with one home keep capture.

Nah, disagree with this carebear strategy completely. All home keeps plus 1 non-home keep and if you die in IC to anything and you don't have access, you're booted out to the gate.

Im with you on this... it makes the map worth while and if you lower the required keeps us PvPers are just going to have to take more keeps to squeeze the juicy carebears out of IC in order to get anything going on a map. That will result in constant crying that the map is all one color. Not to mention as other have stated it promotes the faction pride that is extremely lacking in this game....

Brian, are you folks planning to wait on Orsinium before gating access on all the campaigns? I only ask because there are many casuals and even semi-hardcore players(like myself) that simply do not have any of my toons in VR16 gear yet nor am i even close to having enough matts simply because of work and life obligations don't allow us to have 6-10 hours a day to grind in the IPC.

Many casauls and semi-hardcore players would see it as unfair that 10-15% of your game population has been able to grind out all VR16 gear already and then have the access gated barring everyone else from having the same open access to get their gear. This is one of the core problems i saw with openeing access early on and then closing it.

I am hoping that if the Vet level will not go up with the release of Orsinium, that you guys and gals would wait until Orsinium comes before closing off access to the IPC so that way casuals and semi-hardcore players are given the same equal chance to grind their gear as those who have spent a huge amount of time in the IPC currently.

or at the very least have 1 campaign with open access?

If you have been playing this long, and consider yourself a "semi-hardcore" player, how are you not geared? I would say a lot more than 10-15% have gear, and I would even flip that to 85-90% do, if not more.

I played two days and was basically as geared as I was in 1.6.

If I was zos, I would follow mojicans post, close the two campaigns he mentioned (or whatever they see based on data we can not see), and make only one campaign open access. Why you ask I am sure. Well, my friend, let me tell you. We all get to PvP again! Want to be in cyro, great, it has a point again. Want to just go into the IC and farm, great, go to that campaign. Want to just PvP in the IC, go to that campaign.

This change should happen today, and I would be on tonight.

That's a solution. Cyrodiil and IC have nothing in common, but the ability to kill opposite faction. They're not connected in any way by gameplay, you even loose PvP buffs and passives, when you enter IC.

Right now I have to sit in queue for an hour if I want to join active Cyrodiil campaigns, because there's hundreds of PvE'rs down in IC grinding trophy's. This makes no sense.

Problem is, I doubt ZoS is willing to or has the spare resources to create things like queues for IC, new entry spot for IC that doesn't involve Cyrodiil and systems around that. But maybe no need? It's a PvE grind zone after all, mostly empty. Not like we ever needed queues to enter Craglorn :smirk:

Several of these changes are tied to campaign population and performance issues however, which plan on addressing in incremental patches.

@ZOS_BrianWheeler any update on this yet? I would love to have an alternative campaign to Azura EU with balance populations. It's currently the only worthwhile PvP campaign but suffers from very long queues and lag.

There was never an issue when we had Thornblade and Azura's Star in the past. Please, Please can you consider closing come campaigns and forcing factions to fight each other. These EU Buff/Farm campaigns are getting stupid and ignoring the entire point of IC.

I think we're moving past the need of gated access at this point. IC is getting less and less populated and more people are moving back topside, from my experience in this past week at any rate.

probably because of the updates to the AP store coming up.

There is no way compressing population is going to do anything to solve the problem of a dead Cyrodiil. The very thought of even more lag because you decide to shove even more population into fewer campaigns has me shuddering.

And until and unless you stop allowing people to travel to campaigns that are neither their home nor their guest, gated access is not going to solve the problem and in fact, is going to result in even more faction population crowding. My guild is homed in Axe, and I can tell you the situation is just as much of a mess there as it is on the non-gated servers. There's very little true PvPing at all. The map gets zerged, and then goes dead, as the faction heads into the sewers. Heck, because there's no mechanic in place that kicks people out if their faction loses access, we often see people not even defending - they don't care if their faction gets locked out because they're already in IC.

IC is the only means of obtaining v15/16 mats - be that by farming drops and decon'ing them, or by accruing stones and spending them. People don't like losing stones - which means when they farm, they don't want to get ganked/zerged. Which means most folks want to farm 1) with PvP buffs and 2) on a campaign where their faction is dominant so they don't have to worry about running into a zerg while in the sewers.

If you make all servers have gated access with things as they stand right now, it will mean the return of the Buff Server, where even the tiniest bit of opposition results in a massive zerg steamrolling so that they can go back to their uncontested IC access with their PvP buffs. And then, because you've not done anything to prevent people from traveling to whatever campaign they want, the PvP zergs will just continue to do what they do now: travel to another server that isn't their buff server when they want to try and find someone to fight.

Orsinium, depending on how plentiful the resource nodes are, may go a long way towards alleviating the problem simply because there will be another way to obtain mats, so people won't be confined to IC. But note the word "plentiful" there - if Orsinium operates like Upper Craglorn used to, with node farmers running around competing for nodes, then people are still going to look to IC as the primary means of obtaining mats, and that means they aren't going to want to be on a campaign where they have difficulty getting into the sewers.

I don't envy you right now, because the PvP situation is a Hot Mess and I'm not sure what, if anything, can fix it. I never thought I'd say this, but it might be time to consider some sort of "reset" when it comes to keeps in Cyrodiil, especially if you're going to make all servers have gated access. Meaning that every 24 hours (or whatever), keeps reset to whichever faction they traditionally belong, somehow.
