after todays patch I got a patching error, after removing the launcher version file(usually does the trick) I am greeted with another 1.1 gigabyte download???? WTH ZOS? can anyone confirm this, or shed some light on this for me???

I am so angry about this...understandably I sat here and basically watched it download over the last hour and now I have to do it all over....

I was hoping I would get some response to this, but apparently everyone is playing..this makes no sense to me....why is this happening to me, and why are patches without content so large...and why can't we download them and apply them separate from the client app...I would love to be able to download via torrent a day prior to the patch being live so I could let it download while I sleep, then after maintenance apply the patch and just play...

Yes I am in the same boat with you on this.
After the patch I received an error 209
I tried to to repair through launcher but I get the same error when I press the repair button.
The usual remedies for error 209 did nothing in my case.

Why would you delete a launcher version file instead of just repairing?

And instead of spending time on the forums, make a support ticket

Quite frankly I do not understand your answer.
First of all we must establish if we are alone on this or other people suffer from the same condition. In the later, that displays a pattern and therefore Z must fix that asap. If we are alone on this then it is definitely something wrong with our rig/game and we need to do the usual steps to remedy this like un-install and re-download 30GB data (eeeek)!

As for the OP deleting the launcher version, this is what Z and people suggested previously for those who had the same error code so she/he did what was suggested.

So, I am not alone and I am assuming for everyone who posts there are many more with the same issue....so hopefully ZOS is aware of this and can make a statement, or fix it...preferably both :)

    It could be a dual patch...I love how the patch notes always give the size, and then you end up downloading about twice that every time :) SARCASM_END();

I downloaded the patch and got a pop-up saying that it couldn't recognize the version, but "Play" was still available, so I played :)

When I quit I got another pop-up (same problem) and the launcher had gone from "Play" to "Repair". I haven't had time to restart it yet, but I've found it usually works OK, even if you have to ignore its desire to repair a couple of times.

Yes that was the case in the past but today that repair thing is quite stubborn I am afraid :disappointed:

If this is the old PatchManifestError_VersionFail that the Launcher pops up form time to time, it can be safely ignored, if the client is already fully patched and able to run. Just close the launcher and re-open it, it should be gone (until the next time it pops up, ofc).

This error message tends to pop up more often during times when a new patch is released. The launcher, while running, frequently tries to contact its master repository to assure that all client files are still up to date. If that connection runs into a timeout (e.g. because of the higher-than-usual traffic on patch day), it throws this error. To reiterate, if the client has successfully finished updating and you are able to log in and play, either ignore this error message, or close the launcher after starting the game.

I, ofc tried the old restarting the launcher trick. I am in no way new to any of this.

I am in the same position - having spent ages watching the patchdownload I have now pressed repair and I'll bet that doesn't work either. Which is worse for 'updates' Zenimax or Microsoft?

I have had the same pop-up as I have had after several patches but can continue to play in this case. A friend however has has a fatal error opening client after downloading and cannot play at all.

I had the same problem with recent patch, and the repair function on launcher didn't work, still shouting the same error. I refused to do any re-downloading or other solution, but instead just closed it and turned off my pc (it was late already). Next day I turned pc on and started the game from eso.exe instead of launcher.exe, game started without problems and I was playing for a few hours with no problems.

Maybe it's a separated launcher bug, which forces to download again 1,5 GB patch as a "repair", which seems ridiculous.

Also comparing to eg SWTOR, there were never in my 1 year playing history any re-downloading of patches that huge, and their repairing option works as true repair, not like here as "repair function needs repair becuase it does not work", because it looks ridiculous and the programists laziness is to be blamed only.

Honestly I'm a little disapointed that this huge developer's team is unable to create more user-friendly environment for patching.
    1. why the patches are so huge, if the changes described are only minor especially for typical user who does not own DLC.
    2. If someone has no DLC I think he should not be forced to download stuff for this DLC, and his game should be able to recognize this.
    3. why the launcher still generates problems, not only with "unstable memory, like leaks", but also patching, that force people to start game without it. Why launcher does not close itself automatically after it starts the game. It works that way perfectly in SWTOR, so it is possible.

What I observed yesterday after playing 2 hours on new patch, the stuttering in animation was noticeably lesser, which is good, but I didn't find any note of this problem as solved in patch description, so maybe it was unintentional or some temporary improvement in performance...

This is the nature of MMOs: everyone playing needs to have the same client, it'd be a logistical nightmare otherwise. In an offline single player game, content can be downloaded on demand, because there's only one user, independent from others. In an MMO, there's not.

Point in case: even someone who only uses the free starter account of WoW and can access only the first 20 levels (i.e. starter and first questing areas) has to download the fully patched client, including all expansion areas. SWTOR does the same thing.

I've never seen the launcher being accused of crashing due to memory leaks. The client, yes. But these two are completely separate entities. As to why error 209 (PatchManifestError_VersionFail) tends occur more often around patch days, what causes it, and how it can be circumvented, has been explained abundantly. Just search for it on these forums.

I quite often get the message saying repair, DON'T just re-start the launcher, it may take a couple of attempts but it will launch normally and you can play.

The launcher has been bugged since launch just ignore the message and restart the Launcher until it works.

    I REPEAT NEVER REPAIR, IT'S A BUG
