Block casting was the problem, not blocking

The problem with blocking seems to me to be block casting, not blocking per se. So why not just fix block casting rather than nerfing all blocking?

You could make all spells/skills briefly drop the shield of any blocker until the spell is cast. People would still have to wait for the opening in the block to hit the blocker without mitigation. It might actually involve a degree of skill.

Simply nerfing all blocking is incredibly heavy handed and affects PvE players who had no problem at all with blocking.

    Mate with so many stars next to forum name you should know by now that Z. simply lacks proper design - "ooo thats shiny lest pull this one and see what happens" approach is what we get every time.

    Issue persists for a long time and then Z. comes and swings the mighty coders hammer and bashes the wrong thing. its the same story over and over again.

    They should have just made blocking reduce weapon damage and spell damage by 50%.

    Increase block cost in Cyrodiil by 50%. Increase ability costs by 20% in Cyrodiil, reduce regen by 20% in cyrodiil.

    That way you prevent people from just spamming to their hearts content. Actually have to heavy attack and time combos.

      I think personally that to combat the perma-block casting players in PvP that block should have an exponential cost upon hit.

      So if you block 1 thing it costs x

      if you block 2 things it costs x*x

      if you block 3 things it costs (x*x)*x

      this will make holding block impossible and allow for stamina DPS and break free and all the things that you need from stamina without hamstringing people for wanting to you know, block heavy attacks and still be able to break free from the constant cc.

      But thats none of my business.
      Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

      The problem isn't blocking or block casting it's builds that can survive indefinitely using any mechanics, including shields, blocking, healing, reflection, damage reduction, etc.

      ZOS already said Block Casting was the problem for them.

      What I been saying that blocking isn't the problem but block casting is that's why hey are doing no stamina regen while blocking so that zos can keep there presious block casting while barely stopping perma blockers. Either though most of the community hates that idea.....

      So like I said before, make it so abilities are greyed out (cannot be used while Blocking) like when they did with Sprinting in the past, how hard is that to implement? ?? I guess it is harder since ZOS have gone the other route and Nerfed Stamina regen while blocking....

      Agreed very much here. Even the weapon damage bit isn't necessarily needed, but rather the PvP block cost and regen/cost tweaks. Resources are far too plentiful in PvP. People should run out unless using a regen-centric build with other throughput/defensive weaknesses.
