I don't know that I'd like for a individual player housing system - first off, I would absolutely HATE it if it were a land-grab system like ArcheAge, etc. But I mostly don't like it because everyone having their own instanced house would pull people out of the actual game world, and that'd not a good thing in MMOs. It just isn't. It makes the world feel dead. As much as I love the system in RIFT, the zones in that game are COMPLETELY empty a lot of the time, and that's just not good for a social game.

That said, I would LOVE a system that promotes community / social interaction.
Like, say, Guild Housing or Guild Keeps.
Imagine having your guild, with all of your guildmates, able to gather enough money to buy a big "Guild Keep" property (for this example, let's say all Guild Keeps are instanced 'spots' in Oblivion or something), and then maybe allow individual members to create their own rooms or spaces within that keep's walls.
Your Trading Guild could build a giant Auction Hall in the keep with multiple stalls, and you could invite your player members (or pay a fee to allow outsiders) to join the instance and shop there, or hold open-world live player-auctions (like some guilds are already doing).
You could build a "track" of sorts to do horse racing, and allow players to place bets on different horses (let me race my panther against my guildmate's horse, etc).
You could build a small sparring arena where you can spar 1v1 against your guildmates.
All of it would be inside the "Guild Keep"'s grounds.
Idk, I think that'd be cool and far better than a bazillion individual private player houses.
