Even in groups, it's impossible to keep track of who's where and what's going on. I've tried grouping a total of twice since I bought this back in June and, both times, I completely lost track of my team and there doesn't seem to be any way for me to keep track of them because there are so many other players running all over the place and just about everybody seems to look exactly the same (other than class).

To be honest, playing an MMO on a console, you'll never get the feeling of what an MMO is. The community just isn't there, and the communication is severely lacking.

What kind of question is this?

    It's like asking:

"Would you have liked if World of Warcraft was a real time strategy (RTS) game?"

The whole question makes no sense, but to answer it: no, I would not have bought a single player game with the word "Online" on it, that'd be just false advertising & unethical at that point.

The game doesn't resemble a singleplayer game at all; quality of story & quests are more about quantity than quality, a common drawback of making a huge MMO rather than singleplayer game.

Also, combat is floaty & not-so-good in order to reduce stress on servers, which makes another big reason this game could never have been a single player one.

Lastly you have all the dumbed down mechanics that would make it a rather unenjoyable experience, compared to previous Elder Scrolls titles & other RPGs.

I've enjoyed all the TES games, from Arena to Skyrim, and will play any successors, but I've been playing ESO since launch on the PC and am loving it as am MMO, although strictly speaking it's more of a hybrid between an MMO and a single-player game. I play solo PvE with co-operative play in dolmens and public dungeons but love having other players around even tho' I'd happily change the trading system which I don't use it at present as it's gated behind guild membership which is of no interest to me. I've no interest in PvP. I've never had any significant performance issues with the game. I haven't found anything to not love about the game, and that includes the multiplayer aspect.

I know that sounds fanboyish, but it's a genuine response based on my experience and playstyle, and not everyone has a massive chip on their shoulder where this game and its developers are concerned, although I appreciate that different people with different approaches do have issues with the game. I hope they get resolved, because even those people clearly love the game in one way or another and the multiplayer aspect is an important part of that in relation to both PvE and especially PvP where most of the grievances seem to be based.

    Hmmm...

    Totally inadequate poll.

As the game exists now... the multiplayer part really s.. (oops) is terribad. No real group tools. No way to switch PvP zones( I know it is to prevent evil peeps from spying.. but Geebus, total inability to switch?.. not just a 24 hour timer?).

Fix the dam grouping tool(this goes for PVE too). Fix the exclusion from other PvP combat zones with a reasonable timer installed.

Then I'd probably find out what the h..(oops)..heck is going on in PvP. And be able to play the new DLC, which I will NOT purchase until I can use the dam thing.

Until then... solo for me.... see you doing the make-work-stuff.... writs/theft/leveling my pony skills/fishing/etc..

Unless I'm messing with the new Swtor DLC to see if that is the Rick-Roll I think it is... sigh.

    Both.

I'd play it regardless because it's a TES game and I've enjoyed all the ones I've played before. But I also like MMOs and playing with other people around, so the fact that it's a TES MMO makes it doubly appealing to me.

ESO in its current form would be a poor single player TES game. It's too linear, too easy and the zones too fragmented. My favorite playstyle, archery, doesn't feel right at all. If I had to play it without other people, I'd go through each alliance once and then quit. I enjoy it as it is because it's multiplayer.

I will buy and play TES VI when it comes out, and I will probably love it. I will mod it to Oblivion and Spin all kinds of crazy builds and be glad they only impact me.

And I will still be playing ESO for its MMO component (unless CU is out by then and I like it better...)

Coming from the previous ES games which were offline/single player games, I would play ESO also if it'd be a single player game (The Elder Scrolls Offline^^).
But, although this is also my first MMO, I do enjoy seeing other players for a change. There happen so many unexpected and also funny things which never could possibly happen in a single player game since everything is scripted (more or less random at times, but still scripted).

When i first heard about ESO, and the alliance war, i envisioned a world much more simple and joyful.

A world without a real leveling system, just a lot of skills and options you could choose from to create your own character.
(Basically skyrim, yet multiplayer. Enemies always stayed the same level, some stronger than others, and where at the start you couldn't beat certain ones, after some time (and progression) you could.)

A world where you could walk from Auridon to Windhelm (having to cross through Cyrodiil to do so) just to see how it is there without having to be "max level".
A place where one could walk half the world to trade wares and items unobtainable in those regions, meeting its inhabitants (players) face to face.
A place where you could be the wandering hero from a land far beyond, meeting people and seeing places.

Cyrodiil would be a place of war for certain groups. Where Guilds and lone mercenaries would fight for the Ruby throne.
You could side with an alliance, which would give you access to comrades and a banner to fight under, Yet if someone whom you didn't like ascended the throne you could kill him yourself, be it a friend or foe.

A man or woman on the Ruby throne, respected by some and hated by others. Guarded by friends and allies while waiting for someone to burst into the throne room to claim the throne as his/her own.
People from all alliances banding together in a library somewhere in a castle to create new skills and spells.

Where Red, Blue and Yellow were the dominant colors in every alliance if one aligned with said nation was the ruler of the Ruby Throne. Where both murder and Politics could decide whom was to crowned the new ruler.
Where the ones who did not search for conflict and power could walk under a white banner, through the front door of every nation, just to loiter around in a bar with people from strange lands.

Yet what i got was a basic (yet beautiful) MMO where you would never see anyone else but your own folks. Where towns further away from your home are basically empty but for the NPC's sprouting the same 3 lines without end.

I have played a lot of MMO's, and i have to say that ESO is the most beautiful ones i have ever been in. But i miss the public factor i have had in other games.
Standing side by side with people you share a laugh with, from whom you know that ones you meet them in cyrodiil he will run his sword through you without saying sorry (but at the end of the day laughs with you about how stupid you looked back in the town you both call home).

    - They should strip this world of wayshrines and restricted zones.
    - Leveling should be removed for gear progression.
    - Skills trees should stay as they are.
    - Borders should be removed, and everyone should be allowed to roam freely.
    - Only towns should count as safe zones.
    - Every player should have a "yellow" border (so you can turn friendly fire off).
    - And every town or encampment should have a record board which will list all active criminals (murderers) in that zone.
    - People should be allowed to put a bounty on a player's head if his name is on such a board.
    - Guild sellers should be removed, and Vendors should be put in place which you can offer your wares to (and claim the gold they made for you on your next visit to that town).

Unfortunately, I find that the farther I progress, the more I have to play alone. Group finder doesn't work and my friends/guildies arent the same level. Makes me sad that its so tough to find players to run dungeons with.

I've played every ESO game release, all of which have been single player (personal favorite is Morrowind). During Skyrim friends and I discussed how much fun we thought an online ES game would be. Months later they announced ESO. I couldn't be more happy with what they did here.

As for players who think/thought this game should be more single player based, there will be more releases for you in the nearish future. Let us MMO fanboys, and girls, have their moment - please.

My main issue with multi-player in TESO is that it makes sneaking absolutely pointless. That was one of my favorite parts of the the other ES games!

Now, if you sneak, all that happens is that you're lurking about while everybody else runs in and bangs away at everything. You can even steal stuff without any sneaking at all for goodness sake!

Maybe we need to start our own TG or DB guilds just so we can be sneaky together.

If you want Skyrim 2, you'll just have to wait for Bethesda to (maybe) release it someday. In the meantime, there are a number of great single-player open-world RPG's out there to play, including Dragon Age Inquisition and The Witcher 3.

ESO is an MMO. It was never meant to be Skyrim.

I agree, but, still, there are those of us that are single player folks that want to try the multi-player options. My problem is that I don't want to actually talk to anybody. I'm happy to listen and use the emotes, but, I really, really don't want to talk to anyone (major speech impediment? No - just don't like talking to people  ).

I'll get there eventually. Still low level so I'll get there.

This game has indeed to little Multiplayer Content.
Alliance War is fun and all (and so are dungeons), but running 24/7 across a field to get killed in 3 seconds doesn't really give me a multiplayer feeling.

Dueling (Solo or Guild v Guild, Having contact with people who are commonly your enemy (other alliances) and such "simple" things is what gives a General MMO the Multiplayer feel.
Idk about other people, but in other MMO's i played it was generally the same cycle every day.
Log in, Level or Quest a bit, Head to the "Arena" to chat (and fight) with people. And every X days you had Guild vs Guild battles where they put multiple guilds into a pit and let them fight it out for points.

They should make it that you can enter other zones in VR mode (silver and Gold) or in normal mode (actually meeting people of other alliances face to face, outside of Cyrodiil).
They should implement dueling, and allow groups of mixed alliances to tackle a dungeon.

A variety of fun (and stupid) minigames could also spice up the mood. From stupid gamble games inside a pub to (maybe) real archery in an archery range. Put your skills against other people in a friendly game rather than trying to kill each other over some throne and city we have yet to see ingame.

I like TESO because is multiplayer
I've played all the single player TES games, enjoyed them very much then put them on the shelf to collect dust once completed. The reasons I play and enjoy TESO so much is because firstly the MMO side of the PVP, and secondly because I hope this game will be around a long time like other MMO's where I can gradually build my characters up, enjoy guild life, socialize and have fun. I do not see this as Elder Scrolls with friends, I see it as an MMO with linear progression, leader boards, competition, which just so happens to be set in the beautiful world of Tamriel, the one place I always hoped an MMO would!

I wouldn't get as much enjoyment out of a predominantly single player game which had a side of grouping with friends. Those games to me always have an ending, a completion, then there's nothing left to do other than play another game(for me). The whole appeal to an MMO in my eyes is that it will be around long enough to try out all the classes/roles, experience all sides of the factions and meet a lot of like minded hardcore PVP'ers. I do play FPS games also but there is just something special about building a character up, getting gear and throwing fire balls in peoples faces that scratches an itch where other games don't. As much as I get frustrated in these games, I remain loyal because I appreciate the work that has gone in to bring it to us and the work we put in ourselves to create our personas.

I guess this game bridges the devide between casual RPG players and hardcore MMO players, that really is something special...
