Are TESO players ignorant of MMOs?

Bounced around a few MMOs on PC, havent touched on in a long while but decided to try TESO when it came to PS4. I'm level 30 or so now and I have to say 99% of people have no idea what is going on and I'm wondering if this is because MMOs are a new genre for consoles or if the TESO community is just composed of people who are more interested in an TES title than an MMO.

Seen healers who thought their job was to do damage, tanks in medium armor who laughed at the idea of using a shield, guys who think have no concept of loot generation and so on.

I think for a lot of console players the closest thing they have played to a MMO is Destiny.

A lot of players came from Elder Scrolls game and had never played a MMO before. This on PC aswell, but certainly a lot more on Console.

We have a role to take. I think it's pretty excitting, and funny sometimes. I've several new to MMO members in my guild and it's amazing how we do not realise sometimes that simple concept are totally alien for them. And some terms;;like kiting, aggro, DPS, etc...

Trinity is just a really bad outdated system that should have been put to grave long time ago.It wasn't present in elder scrolls games and it shouldn't be present here. Being locked in some silly role of healbot or damage sponge is just not fun. Geting rid of trinity is one of the few things Guild Wars 2 did right.

I would say modern mmos are the cause of people being lost. Games like rift or wow pretty much hold your hand and it has made gamers lazy. And mmos on consoles is far from new ffxi been on the console since 2003.

And speaking as a new player who loves the game but would not touch any MMO with a ten-foot pole normally (I'm only here at all because it's an ES MMORPG) I'm very grateful for folks who take the time to explain all those terms in a kindly way. In that sense its a new universe/new vocabulary for me and it's not intuitive at all.

ESO gives MMO newbies too much room for error. It's easy to be ignorant of RPG and MMO elements when you can tank as a sorcerer. Easy to not care about a build when 80% of the skills are shared by every class.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I watched a video the other day on a sorc build/tank who used his summoned pets very effectively to taunt; very high level play. It was well done.

I'm fairly sure no one's idea of a sorcerer before this game was of plate armor and a shield. Gandalf wore a robe, he had a staff. Just seems this game cares not for true mythology and lore, J.R.R. Tolkien who?

Probably a bit of both. There really aren't that many big MMOs on consoles as most tend to target PC gamers, so yes this has probably brought in a curious crowd who might not be all too familiar with this genre. Ignorant? Nah, just new and getting a feel for the game.

Gandalf also wielded the sword Glamdring, which would have been a no-no in the Dungeons and Dragons game that set the template for many earlier RPGs. But that template was not put in place due to mythology, but because in Gygax's game system it was how he made it more necessary for there to be a diverse group of players.

Likewise Elric of Melnibonea wielded a two-handed sword while being one of the most powerful magicians of his fictional world.

In Steven Brust's Draegara stories, likewise there isn't a prohibition from sorcery users also wielding heavy weapons and wearing heavy armor.

But most importantly, as has already been said, we are playing in Tamriel. This world has quite extensive lore, and the old Dungeons and Dragons class limitations are not a part of it.

Do you even understand that the appearance of Gandalf was based upon one of the Norse depictions of Odin, who at other times was also depicted in armor and wielding a spear? It was an aspect that Odin would take in their stories when he wanted to wander about Midgard without drawing as much attention to himself.

You also need to remember a lot of players in ESO came from just the single player gaming background not to mention Skyrim was bad at making people think healing in a full set of heavy armor was OP so they don't consider at least having two light pieces making them a tanky healer. There are literally hundreds of different builds and people always testing different ones (myself included) that don't always follow the norm/meta but that doesn't mean they wont be good at it. Don't get me wrong some players just aren't well-versed enough for specific roles but with more insight they can probably come up with better working builds. Also five piece medium with two heavy was a thing for stamina tanks back in beta/early launch.

I have played a lot of MMOS and yes the console players are the absolute worst I have ever seen. It's like they have no idea other people are playing in there with them. Seriously I get so pissed sometimes....I almost started thinking that console players were "special"....know what I mean.

If you've been playing any mmo since Ultima online you should know now simplified the genre has been for years now. Been telling players that complain about this for years and it amazes me it still needs hammered home for some people. Let go of your experience of mmo's from the past. They are appealing to the casual gamer , this has been true for a long time now. It's not going to suddenly change either. This is gaming online now. This has been gaming online for almost the last decade.

Then you've definitely never played any previous TES game. Frankly my go-to build in previous TES games was a magicka user in the heaviest armour I could get - typically relying primarily on summoning magic and using different weapons depending on how I felt at the time.

Guess what: this is an entirely different setting from Middle Earth. The lore of Tamriel is completely different from the lore of Middle Earth. Just because you're ignorant of the lore doesn't mean that this game doesn't care for it.

Which is why they should have launched classes across the globe in a cannon.

In the previous games, while classes did exist, you were not locked into them (except in arena) There are other systems i think they should have used instead of arbitrary classes.

    YES!!!

So ESO should dismantle them. Don't need them, don't want them. Goes against ES lore anyway.

Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!
