Are TESO players ignorant of MMOs?

I look back to when I started and I laugh at myself, but it's part of the fun to learn new things. I was in Vet levels before I realized how useful dodge-roll was. Now I have characters that are focused towards each of the roles, but I can still be flexible.

A few weeks ago in one of our guild events, we had 4 people at around the same level playing our DC alts and we decided to do the first tier of dungeons. None of us had a tank, so I looked at my NB skills and put a skill point in Agony (which I had never even used on my main NB), and used that to stun the mobs that the tank would usually taunt and we went through the first three dungeons without much problem. And we had a blast.

Learn to walk before you run. Yes, you can play a tank in medium. You know how to make it work.
I know the theory of how to make it work. I'm not an experienced enough tank to actually try to make it work myself. I'll stick to my 5-pieces of heavy armour and sword & board on both skill bars for my own tank :)

My new Orc DK plans on adding 2H to her initial sword and board. When I run out of magika for chains I can switch to charge.

Honestly I still rarely dodge-roll, partly because I find I can usually get out of the red without using it (if the red area is big I always try to dodge-roll out though), and partly because sometimes the double-tap gives me issues. I've just remapped it to one of my mouse buttons, though, so I'll probably be using it more now.

Bounced around a few MMOs on PC, havent touched on in a long while but decided to try TESO when it came to PS4. I'm level 30 or so now and I have to say 99% of people have no idea what is going on and I'm wondering if this is because MMOs are a new genre for consoles or if the TESO community is just composed of people who are more interested in an TES title than an MMO.

Seen healers who thought their job was to do damage, tanks in medium armor who laughed at the idea of using a shield, guys who think have no concept of loot generation and so on.

I'd say yes based solely on the complaints that standard MMO features like knowing how much damage you are doing are "ruining mah immersion" and are avidly against it being even an optional part of the UI because it's "elitist and leaves out players who don't use it"....totally forgetting that right now everyone (on pc) who wants them uses an addon....making it a ridiculous circular argument.....debates of that type since launch

Then there is "ESO said I could play how I wanted"...Yes, you can playing solo. That crazy set up you have simply may not work so well in a group and I (personally at least) don't remember them advertising that you can be successful at "everything" while playing how you want. Some players don't quite understand that difference.

Best thing you can do is find yourself a guild suited to what you are looking for from the game. If grouping a lot is your thing, find yourself a couple of friends to roll with consistently instead of PUGs and gently prod the unknowing towards information outlets that may help them on their journey.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

It took me like 2 weeks to find a double tap speed that worked for me. I'm used to it now though... I do like the console dodge method. hold block + press another button to roll. makes you play a bit more defensively.

Has to be said ESOTU is my first MMO and currently I am still trying to figure out what I want my character to be. I'll also take my time before joining a guild because I want to be sure I know what I am doing,
That said, having played TES single player games for many years, like others who have, we have the heads up re exploration, lore books and so on in the game. It's part of what we love about the TES universe. :)
I too watch people running around like crazy doing quests, running past chests, missing quests, resources, dungeons, Ayleid ruins and so on.
I am pretty sure some think I am nuts wandering around apparently doing 'nothing.'
Now you would think that some folks who played Skyrim (and expected ESOTU to be like Skyrim) to get the exploration element.
Two things there already. Those who thought the game was going to be like Skyrim, and have never played an MMo and those who thought OESTU was going to be like other MMos.
Some folks can't deal with the freedoms the game offers in building character/class/race, weapons/armour.
I love it! and..I look forward to joining up with others to play...but not just yet ;)
Have a good one all. <3

dont take your time find a good one. decide what you want to do while levelling then ask your more experienced guildies for their suggestions on how best to achieve what you want for your character. This has the advantage that you wont be LFG all the time and if you have an idea and want to test something you weill no doubt have access to experienced crafters to help you out.

You can do normal content in groups blindfolded if you want, it's stupid easy. Most dungeons are stupid easy too, but if you don't have at least a healer, have fun dying on every trash pull.

Maybe they have realised the game is nothing like any of the other TES games and decided not to give a damn?

Anyone with no MMO experience who picked this game up cos of the TES in the name will be really angry I think, by TES standards its total rubbish imo.

So yeah, maybe they played for a bit, decided you know what lets try that dungeon without a care in the world because they had already lost interest?

Well, I've only been playing since PC launch day (no early access because I didn't get a chance to install earlier than launch day), and I picked up the game with no MMO experience purely because it's an Elder Scrolls game. And I've loved it since day one.

Yeah. I have not touched MMOs for years on end and only came back because of ESO. Why ESO? Because of the many TES elements and how it breaks the usual MMO mold. This game has earned my commitment and playtime.

Consoles have had fully fledged MMOs since probably before the first one i played which started on the PS2, and ended up being cross platform on PS2, PS3, Xbox360, PC.

so no they are just that much worse. blame the fact that Console players are even less likley to use comms than PC players even tho they have it built in.
