so i have the imperial edition on xbox one and im not sure if its due to level - currently 8 - or its just how the game was made, but i was expecting a updated and online version of skyrim.

    i cant loot everything
it seems impossible to find goods (armor, weapons, etc)
i constantly get attacked by guards if i have a small bounty
    i cant kill the guards
    i cant fast travel
i have access to my imperial horse yet i cant ride it
the setup is weird (which is understandable because its new)
    leveling up takes forever
i cant upgrade items/skills easily (setup is weird)
    freeroam is awkward
i dont notice armor on my character but it shows him fully decorated while i choose which character to play as in the load/log in

but really i was expecting the game to be a bit more similar to skyrim... maybe its because it wasnt bethesda but i feel kind of off playing. again it could just be that i am not leveled up enough to really enjoy to its full extent but in skyrim you nearly had fun instantly. with eso it feels so foreign

You're lucky they re-designed the UI to look more like Skyrim for console players, this hasn't been the case for the PC community, what we've got is what we've been left with!

I'm a huge Elder Scrolls fan. Been playing since Morrowind. And I think the necessity of making it an MMO (and that ZOS devs were mostly pulled from another franchise) has removed far too much 'ES-ness' in this game.

In addition, this game was advertised quite prominently as "the next chapter in the Elder Scrolls series", so I can fully understand that many, many people were disappointed.

    Welcome to ESO.

I can understand your expectation. It is more a step back toward oblivion than a step forward from Skyrim.

Also, it was made by Zenimax, not Bethesda, so I guess they chose to focus on different elements. For example, they created all of the voice-acted quests but didn't make everything lootable. They gave us classes (I guess they thought that players couldn't handle the traditional ES system).

There are various differences. If you think of it as a 'Soloplayer online game, with optional friends, in the world of Tamriel', rather than the 'next step in the ES series' then you will hopefully have a more enjoyable time.

This game is complex and wonderful. I dont get why people expect this to be skyrim online. People who complain like this are usually those who have only played skyrim and none of other elder scrolls games. This is not skyrim online, its an Elder Scrolls mmo. You really should have researched this.

But really, the game has been out on PC for over a year, and one of the most common complaints was how unlike the single player games it is. So if you probably should have read the reviews before shelling out 60 bucks.

Also though, MMOs are different by nature than an SP game. And this is also known.

In a SP game you have more interactivity with the environment. In an MMO almost everything is fixed and static. There's also the mobs - in a SP they can have complex movement patterns and AI. In MMOs they respawn in seconds and tightly loiter (or stay still) at a fixed point (as one person put it "evenly distributed across a meadow").

I'm just saying, the lack of SP features shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone at this point. Caveat emptor.

I've only played Skyrim so far in the Elder Scrolls series (I own all the games for PC but don't have a good enough PC to play them at the moment!) but in no way was I expecting TESO to be like an online version of Skyrim!

I always played as a Nord in Skyrim, but I've purposely chosen to play as a Wood Elf in the Aldrmeri Dominion in order to explore new parts of Tamriel that I've never visited before!

So far I love the Xbox One version, I think it was well worth waiting so long for!

That's exactly what you were asking.

    Whoa!

    The good old days?

Have you watched or read any ESO PC launch reviews?

The game was a rough draft at best.

Over the year of pc playtime, the games updates leaned more towards skyrim style of play in combat weight, stealing, lootable containers and killable NPCs.

And now the meta critic is much higher.

The residual glow of skyrim saved this game.

For some reason there is an odd hostility towards skyrims saving influence over ESO and the massive customer base it draws in.

How come the game's been out for over a year and people still think it's Skyrim Online?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and give a jaded comment to this, its probably because they just started to play the game since its an xbox user and well don't know about you but common sense is going to dictate your probably going to see a lot of posts by console users that PC users made first few weeks/months of the game.
Yes, I know. It's obviously a console player. I don't have a problem with that. What I don't understand is why people don't do basic research before buying a game that's been out for a year. There's a thousand of let's plays and streams to see what it's like, but people still expect it to be something else.

Most of the console ad campaigns really pushed the skyrim with friends angle.

For the most part I think its fairly accurate.

The game let's you explore a bunch considering how many players are online at any one time.

And don't get me started on world size. Stone falls is about as big as All of the map space in destiny,

WRT the guards, they are actually unkillable. You can go against them with a group of 20, what happens is they get down to a certain percentage of health then deal an AOE instakill on anyone who was attacking them.

Been there, done that, when it comes down to it a good thief does not get caught in the first place. There are potions that can help you escape btw.

I bet you have played enough by now to see that many of these observations aren't really true.

Hold the touch pad and it will summon your horse.

This took me forever to find, even though the controller layout clearly marked it.
The world is vast, there are tons of massive zones similar to border lands or fable.

Quests level you the fastest and there is a leveling mechanic on place that stops giving you exp once you are five levels above your enemy. So this may explain why grinding in the same spot becomes pointless.

If you liked the civil war missions in skyrim, you will love PvP. Its like a whole extra game packed into your disc.

My suggestions for a more skyrim feel are,

Go into options and turn off target glow.
    Turn off hot bar display.
Set health bar to fade if full.
Turn off NPC health bars to display only when injured,
Set compass to display as focused.
Turn off attacking innocents. Until you are a bit more familiar.
Press the down directional to toggle third person and first person view.

I play pve in first person.

It also helps to notice things this game has that skyrim doesn't.

There are real live people populating the towns.
real live economies driving guild store items and prices.
    Player created guilds to join.
    Or to create.
If you want to gather a group of actual players and pray to sithis and then hunt down an npc towns person, you can.

If you want to dress as a peasant and sweep the streets, mumbling under your breath as other adventurers step in your dirt pile, you can.

You want to dress as a chef, cook a powerful meal and sell it to hungry adventurers, you can.

Do you just want to pretend to be sick and then pretend to be dead ? Just to freak out all those guys at the blacksmith shop?
    Sure.

You want to collect people into a massive guild who will follow your sickened play dead lead and spread tales of a plague outbreak?
    Sure.

I know I missed skyrim at first but after playing with real people and all the strangeness that involves, skyrim starts to feel a bit lonely.

Honestly when I played Skryim on PC I didn't even finish it. All the addons I downloaded, hacked the game and ruined the experience for me. At least on an online MMO I am unable to be attempted to use the console to cheat to take the hard earned work sanctification away.

Beyond the beauty of the landscape, Skyrim was really immersive with the story and really made me feel like the hero. It was the first time I wished The Elder Scrolls was an mmorpg, so I could also role play my character with others. Then came ESO and it was possible. Unfortunately, you can only do that in the PC version of the game and not in the shooter version on console. So sad, so sad. :'(

Before starting i need to ask: What level are you currently and wich alliance are you in?

    i cant loot everything

    Almost everything.

it seems impossible to find goods (armour, weapons, etc)

Good stuff needed to be earned
you can start crafting atm (open every box inside the houses and you will even find motifs to "upgrade" the armour aesthetics).

i constantly get attacked by guards if i have a small bounty
    i cant kill the guards

You are just a bad thief steal only when hidden and improve the legendersomething passives.

    i cant fast travel

You can in wayshrines, in the wild you need gold to do it.

i have access to my imperial horse yet i cant ride it

    Go to the collection tab.

the set-up is weird (which is understandable because its new)

    Not skyrim.

    levelling up takes forever

Well LOL you don't have reached the VR's yet. Enjoy the journey, since the game has not a difficulty slide some times is better to be under-levelled(more challenging)

i cant upgrade items/skills easily (setup is weird)

Again, what level are you? to improve skills you need to fight and to improve armours etc. you need to become a better (blacksmith, clothier, woodworker)

    freeroam is awkward

    Why?

i dont notice armor on my character but it shows him fully decorated while i choose which character to play as in the load/log in

Probably you have a costume or a disguise equipped.

but really i was expecting the game to be a bit more similar to skyrim... maybe its because it wasnt bethesda but i feel kind of off playing. again it could just be that i am not leveled up enough to really enjoy to its full extent but in skyrim you nearly had fun instantly. with eso it feels so foreign.

Again is not skyrim but the game single player set up is done to be enjoied the same way, go out in the wild explore, help people, kill stuff, explore the dungeons (delve) and on the only difference is that the game do not adapt to your level and there is a "level cap" needed to go into another zone, open your map and compare it to skyrim, you have 5 times more the places to explore.
Right now the game is still lore friendly and it is a wonderful journey in the ES world. one of the longest imho

Just to clear some *** poor Trolling from a person that has played this series for 16 years. This game is not like the other it's new kind of animal that's not all bad. When ZoS started talking about the game till the first closed beta the words Skyrim with your friends were said and re-said so you can't fault anyone but ZoS their.

Loot low level sets suck or you keep getting the same three pieces. You need to know a crafter (free), pay or put the months of research in yourself. Not everyone likes the MMO mindset of just grind. The game should be fun from the start having to grind for a week to enjoy the game. It's such an off putting thought that it's reason most players don't level alts or more then one.

Also bad tips going it to the wild like you would in Skyrim will get you to the next level like my family leaving after holidays sure it will happen but when?
